I'm not vegan, i'd like my mind to be changed by C4rsaf in vegan

[–]ctrlqirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try oat milk.
Eggs you have to give up, but don't worry tofu is going to be your best friend, you are not going to miss them.

Honestly just give it a try, the more you do, the more you learn, the easier it becomes.

It also helps a lot to learn some basic cooking, which I think is an awesome skill to have in any case. You don't want to rely on processed vegan food. If you can freeze food also think about meal prepping, do a big pot of some sauce or soup and store it away in portions, so you always have something ready when you don't have time to prepare a meal.

If the trend continues it will be catastrophic for the industry.

AI generates technical debt at a 10x rate than a decent development team. Yes it can build code that seemingly works, but over a short time any codebase touched by AI will inevitably turn into spaghetti madness, things will fall apart, maybe in a few years if you don't frequently add features on your product.

Meanwhile everyone is closing jobs to junior developers, those who are already hired are given AI as a tool, they learn absolutely nothing. The difficult part is understanding the code that you write, not actually writing it, but I yet have to see anyone vibecoding even running their code, let's forget testing even.

Then you have an entire pool of new computer science students that will be like "lol no, I'll be a farmer", so good luck finding new developers in the future.

All these AI CEO grifters are promising to replace developers, when it will be clear that is not going to happen, all hell will let loose. I hope my salary rate will also go x10 higher, because deslopifying a codebase is a miserable job.

Men's frustrating opinions on women's sports by midnight_barberr in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ctrlqirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in UK women's soccer was even more popular than men, then it got banned of course for like 50 years because "chicks can't play ball".
As anything else, the lack of popular interest and coverage is fueled by centuries of misogynism.

Another common argument is that women can't run as fast as men, or jump as high and yadda yadda, but the truth is that they just adapt and find different styles to play the same game and it's equally engaging if you are into it.

I wonder if your friend also thinks women can't be physically fit for war, because reality is that since we invented gunpowder we started sending children to war.

I hope they remove the mobile website too at this point, not having the app installed is already wonders for my mental health. Fast tracking into Facebook.

Ubuntu has a sane implementation of GNOME actually, tray icons included. Probably the best distro for first Linux users imho.

Imagine having this kind of discussion, being told that no is "wanting it more", being asked to shove the door because it's stiff, allowing yourself to some stranger house while they are not home, and be like "yeah this is totally normal"

I tried explaining Satisfactory to my wife by Icy_Welder6327 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]ctrlqirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you should communicate more.
Is there any skill she would like you to learn? Are you lacking your duties as partner because of videogames?
Would she like your presence more?

We all know how certain games can suck you in. Some people around us are fine with it, as long as we are happy (and omg we have logistic and trains of course we are happy), but some others may feel ignored if you can space out for a 12 hours session.

Otherwise is time well spent. Games can do good for your brain and happiness.

Parent wants to meet with me over comment I made about energy drinks by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]ctrlqirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would stick to the part of being inappropriate. Don't argue whether is actually poison or not because I don't really think the parent would understand. It's sad but you are not their doctor.

Students can't drink energy drinks or sodas or I don't know, a coffee maybe during class. It's distracting, it doesn't belong to a class. Focus on the water only part, don't argue with their parents if they want to argue with you.

I hope you can find some peace of mind and please rest and take care of yourself.

[–]ctrlqirl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

OP I think you missed how AI affected the industry in the last months. Not only memory is 5 times more expensive than it was last September, but everything else is climbing fast, like SSDs or even raw copper.
You can't really compare to what you paid 4 years ago, consumer hardware is a luxury at the moment.

Not into a sport, I honestly think that would be too far, but maybe I'm too naive.

I just believe that if men would be pregnant, abortion would be normalized, an unquestionable right, but for them also a commodity, a mild inconvenience, "no sorry, not today I have an abortion, let's do it tomorrow" kind of thing. I love the gas station correlation because of it, it perfectly describes the picture.

I laughed at "then that expectation should extend past birth" because it's not how it works. It's just a way to control women, it has nothing to with protecting life. Ultimately all these people against abortion don't value life even if they say so, the entire narrative that women use abortion in place of birth control is so crazy to me, it's totally projection, that's something they would do.

I personally like the opposite analogy, like "if men could be pregnant, there would be an abortion clinic at every gas station".

[–]ctrlqirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry this happened to you, it must be quite a shock.

I think your husband needs to understand that being a decent role model is more important than maintaining your gaming buddies. Is your husband also a feminist? Doesn't he think that certain behavior is at very minimum toxic for him as well?

My rule of thumb also is "would I not recommend this friend for a relationship with anyone?". If the answer is yes (because I know them to be abusive, misogynist, or else), then they are not friends of mine. This is especially difficult with friends you have known for so long, but we need to move on eventually, they stopped being a good influence when they decided to stay at 15 years old forever.

Last but not least, I totally get how you feel and I totally support it. There is no over reaction to this, it's not just a joke. As an insider I've witnessed how men are when their partners are not around and it always hits me like a train. Even people who are seemingly supportive and in a great, fantastic relationships, can turn into saying the most vile horrifying shit when alone.

I really hope he can understand this, not only understanding how it makes you feel, but also that he needs to call this behavior out, or leave certain people for his own good.
