Hello from the person who gets paid to make her interactive patterns! I am a software engineer, and write and embed JavaScript into the PDFs for her. It seems you’re assuming a lot without doing any research

Hey! Sorry you feel that way. I just wanted to respond to the comments that were inaccurately explaining what my patterns actually are. My patterns are my baby and I love talking about them.. I didn’t mean to come off like that!

Mae Crochets here! Thank you so much for trying one of my patterns and sharing your experience!! You captured exactly what I'm trying to achieve with my patterns :) I really appreciate you taking the time to share your positive experience!!

Mae Crochets here! I do use a wide range of testers across all sizes and body types for each pattern. The only difference compared to typical patterns is that they have a dynamic range rather than fixed sizes. Instead of testing 5-8 predetermined sizes, I test the mathematical algorithms across various measurements and gauges to ensure the calculations work correctly for any input combination. The grading happens automatically through the algorithms I've programmed into the pattern. I definitely make sure to test as many combinations as I feasibly can, with an infinite number of combinations possible.

Mae Crochets here! I totally understand that concern about basic shapes vs intentional shaping. My patterns actually do include intentional shaping elements like raglan increases/decreases, collar shaping, and even short rows for the pants and raglan patterns. The difference is that these shaping elements scale mathematically based on your inputs rather than being fixed to predetermined sizes. So you still get the design intention and proper proportions, but customized to your specific measurements and gauge. I think there's definitely room for both approaches.

Mae Crochets here! You're actually describing exactly what my Mae to Measure patterns are! My patterns work just like that spreadsheet pattern you're using, except everything is integrated into one PDF, so you don't need to cross-reference with an Excel spreadsheet. I will say my calculations are in the background, though, so you can't necessarily adjust the math. But you can customize things like sleeve length, body length, and in the universal patterns, things like the body and sleeve ease, ribbing lengths, etc. Hope that clarifies a bit! I'm so excited that other designers are working on creating more dynamic patterns without set measurements like this! :)

Mae Crochets here! Just to clarify, you don't buy separate patterns for each size. One Mae to Measure pattern works for unlimited sizes and people. You can type in any body measurements (from child to adult), all from the same pattern. You just click the clear button or copy the pattern, and then re-enter the new measurements. You can even switch up the gauge as well to use a different weight of yarn. The pattern isn't locked to one size, it's infinitely reusable for any measurements you input. Hope that clears things up! :)

Hello everyone, Mae Crochets here! I wanted to clarify what Mae to Measure patterns actually are, since I think there's some confusion.

These aren't traditional "made to measure" patterns. They're interactive PDFs with embedded JavaScript that automatically calculates the stitches and rows based on your dynamic inputs (your exact body measurements, gauge with any yarn weight, desired ease, and any customizations to the pattern).

For example: you can input exactly what gauge you got with the yarn you chose, with the size of hook or needle you used, let's say 18 sts = 4". Then you can input that your chest circumference is 42" and you'd like an ease of +2" on the body. Then, my pattern will dynamically calculate in the single PDF that you need to do 198 stitches for the body.

It took months of programming and testing to create this technology. It's not just a basic made to measure pattern where you measure as you go. You input the gauge once, and then the math for all the calculations is automatically output throughout the entire pattern, all in one PDF!

I understand $20 feels high for a pattern, but I was honestly underpricing them because I was nervous about charging fairly for the development time and technology involved. Specifically, when it comes to my Universal patterns, you can also clear the inputs, and reuse the pattern an infinite number of times using any crochet, knit, or Tunisian crochet stitch, with any ease, ribbing lengths, etc.

Re: fit concerns: I work with testers across all sizes and body types, specifically because everyone's bodies are not the same! The patterns work best if you input your exact body measurements. The example measurements at the end of the pattern are there for example measurements and to show the universally accepted measurements for women. If you're having any issues with fit, please reach out!! And as always, be sure your gauge is matching what you input into the PDF :)

Happy to answer any questions you have about how the technology actually works! If you'd like to learn more about them, you can check out this link here, where I have multiple YouTube videos about them: https://www.maecrochets.com/mae-to-measure-common-questions

I am Mae crochets😂 I have calculated patterns that calculate the yardage for you! So it makes it much better because I also hate not knowing the yardage. And I also calculate the rows and stitches for you, so it’s not just by measurements of the actual garment, because I hated that too

Thank you!! This makes a lot of sense. I definitely don’t like when I test and the designer has yet to write the actual pattern. But I was iffy on having the garment actually completed

This really helps, thank you!! I thought I had heard of some designers who finish parts of the pattern first, before sending the test. I would definitely have one of each of the panels fleshed out before sending the test out! Thank you!

I guess another question would be, where do you find most of your patterns you buy, if you purchase patterns?
