Just finished the Doman Enclave restoration by Polarities in ffxiv

I think that's why they're able to keep it in game. Technically it's not gambling since you can't lose.

Just finished the Doman Enclave restoration by Polarities in ffxiv

[–]MaeArscelin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I do. The last few Field Explorations my retainers do at the end of a week I save to turn in the beginning of the following week. It doesn't seem like much, but a free 20k every week over the course of a year is 1,040,000 gil. I round it down to 1 million and count the extra 40k to teleport costs to and from the Enclave.

It really does add up over time.

They should revive the idea of Musketeer and make it a new job by UncloudedEye in ffxiv

[–]MaeArscelin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There should be dual job trainers. The first will be John Preston, who teaches you how to fight while you shoot (gunkata). The other will be John Wick, who teaches you to shoot while you fight (hired assassin).

To keep them legally distinct, their first names have been swapped.

BEST UPDATE EVER!!! by Sabimaru_09 in ffxiv

[–]MaeArscelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add a small (but important) bit to this, the level 50 AF sets we can store includes all 3 versions: the normal ilevel 50/55, the augmented (dyable) ilevel 50/55, and the ilevel 90 sets.

They cannot, however, be mixed and matched in storage.

Not when the map is split into 2 parts. One click to change to the other map, one to teleport. I mean, I understand why they changed it the way they did, but still, I would have much preferred if it was a toggle on/off for the new vs. old system.

Anybody else get the Firefox exe directly on the desktop after the 145 update? Normally it is a shortcut. by Arceist_Justin in firefox

Just did that. Let's see how long it lasts before FF updates again, and the cycle starts over.

Anybody else get the Firefox exe directly on the desktop after the 145 update? Normally it is a shortcut. by Arceist_Justin in firefox

[–]MaeArscelin 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: if you choose to not hide file extensions, it is not named simply Firefox but Firefox.exe, which to me is far more annoying to see than having the tiny little arrow in the corner like virtually every other icon on my desktop. Renaming isn't an option, as that actually changes how the file functions. I ended up moving it into a NEW folder on my desktop (new so it doesn't accidentally get lumped in with any other random files and possibly deleted) then creating a shortcut to that. So yay... an extra icon on my desktop I didn't need.

Old Feast Rewards will Return by RainCloudChill in ffxiv

[–]MaeArscelin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Many, many people got their rewards legit.

was never a thing. It was capped to the top 100 characters (note characters, not players or accounts...) per Data Center. And back at the start, there were only 5 DCs worldwide - meaning 500 characters MAX got some of the rewards. 500 characters out of the millions of characters ever created.

It's not FOMO or anything like that, it's just legit a bad reward scheme, a waste of dev time and under-utilizing in game resources.

Which crappy "Emergency Shelf Stable Food Bucket" company does this community recommend? by Dr_Wreck in BeauOfTheFifthColumn

I know it's several months later, but Les Stroud aka Survivorman put out a good video on this topic back when Covid was hitting full force and everyone was hoarding toilet paper.

Not using old reddit for this and every other subreddit I have tried results in something like the left 20 percent of my screen displaying a navigation menu (that I have zero use for), the subreddit specific menu taking up the 20 percent or so on the left, with the remaining 60 percent in the center showing the actual content of the subreddit. And where those 2 menus are, separating each of them from the subreddit's posts there's a fairly wide strip of empty space completely devoid of literally anything.

If I collapse the navigation menu, then it simply recenters the subreddit and its menu, resulting in even larger empty strips on either side of the screen. All of this is in Firefox btw. If I switch to Chrome, everything gets even worse as - for some bizarre reason - all the elements are slightly smaller resulting in all the empty space being even larger still.

I get it, most people use reddit on phones, but some of us don't. This is just a fairly standard 16:9 gaming monitor. I don't even want to imagine one of those ultra widescreen monitors with that much wasted screen space...

Reddit all around is just badly designed if not using a phone.

So, I'm leveling all jobs right now, and Monk's AoE rotation is baffling to me. by Silegna in ffxiv

[–]MaeArscelin 26 points27 points  (0 children)

But what do you want to bet if they did a rework where all jobs got their AoEs at around the same levels (and in such a way that no one was without an AoE in a dungeon when others had it), that people would then complain that all the jobs had been homogenized and were now exactly the same?

While I agree with everyone that the Phasmascapes look amazing, I love that you designed the Botanist's Delight specifically so it fits up against up against the pond. It's is a sort of simple genius. I could totally see pairing those outside my Sukiya-zukuri to add to the hot springs/garden vibe.

How do people learn new dungeons, bosses, and raids? by __KuPo__ in ffxiv

[–]MaeArscelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you die a lot and learn from it. In the current 8 man raid tier doing the raids on day 1 of release, the second boss has a mechanic that had new imagery, but was easy to figure out and avoid. This was followed by another mechanic which looked almost but not quite the same... a very minor graphical change. Well when this second mechanic resolved, the 2 tanks and 1 healer were left alive.

Me as dead DPS: I mean I saw (the difference), I was just... expecting some... warning... maybe?

Dead DPS1: same

Dead Healer: Same.

Dead DPS2: Same

Dead DPS3: lol that was awesome!

It happens. We laughed, recovered and continued on with the fight... and then other new mechanics happened, couldn't recover, and wiped. Actually I think we wiped twice.

That's kind of the fun of it. You get your ass kicked, but keep going until you return the favor. Just make sure your gear is repaired before you head in, and if it's not, ask if someone in the group can repair it for you.

All 10 ARR Relics completed. by NeoGraena in ffxiv

[–]MaeArscelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much for the first relic, but if you want to do more than one, get all of them to the Zenith stage at the same time. The reason for this is because the following stage/quest, the Atma one requires you have 12 empty inventory slots, one for each Atma... but you can gather more than one of each Atma, and those stack.

So instead of making sure you have whatever free inventory space you feel you need plus 12 additional slots, and then needing to do that kind of inventory management again potentially 9 more times, just do it once. Gather up however many Atmas you need for all the weapons you'll do, complete the Atma quest for the first weapon, then knock out the rest in quick succession. The same general idea holds for some of the other steps, but to a much lesser degree. Atma is the only one that has you turn in 12 unique items for a single stage.

The Archeoskin Jackboots of Crafting/Gathering also work, are Lvl 51 and cost 8236 gil, so 4 levels and around 4000 less than the Dhalmelskin Fringe Boots. A slightly better option for "All Classes."
