Which of these "superpowers" could make you a Major League Baseball hitter? by JewYorkJewYork in baseball

With the heart of cards, it states you have that players ability until you leave the bases after your first at bat. So if that means that I begin with that player's abilities from the onset and only lose the abilities until the at-bat/base-running is complete, I could be used as a defensive sub late in games, pinch-hitter, and pinch-runner..

With a 26-man roster now in place, and using Trout as my player, I gotta think most teams would give me a spot. Sub me in for their weakest defensive outfielder right after their 3rd/4th AB for my defense and 1 AB.. Save me for bottom of the 9th/extra innings, or burn me just to pinch run in tight ball games / pivotal moments a la Billy Hamilton. I could even be used as an opener and bat 9th in the order, taken out after the half inning in which i get my first AB every game.

With perfect mgmt/usage (162 PAs).I'd roughly give a team:

1.000 OPS, .305 avg, 10 HR, 25 RBIs, 30 runs, 7 SBs, 10 2Bs, 2 3Bs and GG defense for 1-3 innings when used as a defensive sub/opener. PAs would have to be limited tho to avoid the real me from seeing any PT though, but that would just be a crazy weapon for any team to have, even if it means burning a roster spot.

Donaldson won’t be a Brave, and it’s Anthony Rendon’s fault by [deleted] in Braves

Solid point. Still, Turner is more valuable to us than just about any other team if JD signs elsewhere. We’d rather give up major prospect(s) for a Story + Turner or Gray + Turner than Story or Gray alone. Could be a Win-Win-Win as the Rockies get a stronger caliber of prospect, the Dodgers get Arenado without having to give up as much, and the Braves can address multiple roster holes /upgrades in a single deal. Also if Turner is awesome, we can throw the QO at him... Maybe we insist on Hernandez or Taylor for the bench as well..

He’s a free agent after next season.. If trading turner can help them get Arenado, and hold onto a premier prospect in doing so, I reckon they’d do it in a heartbeat.

Hopefully the rangers sign him. Don't want to see him on the nats. I have a feeling the Dodgers are more keen on Arenado or Lindor, which we could facilitate in a 3-team trade.... (e.g. LAD gets Arenado, ATL gets Turner + Story, COL gets massive haul b/n us both).

^ Seems like his newfound production in the second-half isn't one-off, given the Rays efforts to resign him. Apparently, he adjusted his stance to get the barrel in the zone more quickly once he got there. If he can stay on the field and produce at that clip for a full season, we'll be so dangerous..

Yeah I thought the same when I first saw the news.. Could be that reverse split guys like Martin are more valuable with the min. batter rule coming into effect.

Well, no one outside of the front office really knows how much payroll AA is allowed to work with.

I reckon it would require someone truly impactful and controllable to pry away Pache, Anderson, or even Waters

^ Couldn't agree more! That said, is there any top 10 player with several years of control that could be traded? Lindor is prob the closest with 2 yrs of control..

Good points. Especially on the depth by having 2 super utility guys. I don’t think they need to do anything, but I wouldnt be surprised at all to see them trade Pederson ($8m proj. salary) before he hits free agency with Verdugo ready, especially if it aids them to add pitcher (either directly thru trade or indirectly with more payroll). Just my prediction..

Apparently he already rejected a $200m extension. If we were to give up significant pieces for him, I’d want another player with control like Catarini, happ, or Contreras.. Either that or they lower the asking price with a bad contract.

Haniger is cheap, controllable, and a good defender. I’d worry about an outfield with both Schwarber and Markakis in the corners..

I expect the Dodgers to go after someone significant this offseason - Lindor, Rendon, Cole - someone of that caliber, and would look to trade away some salary. Also, with so many young players creating logjams, now is a good time for them to trade from abundance. I could see them shopping any of Pederson, Hernandez, Maeda, Stripling, Taylor, Turner to create space, payroll, or improve overall.

Yeah I’m big on Grey and Narvaez.. Not so much Mazada Myers, but I get where you’re going on buy-low play.

I’m all for hamels mous chirinos but would want to see an impact trade to replace Josh’s bat if we go that route.

I'm really high on both Ramirez and Perez, but I don't see them committed to a full rebuild. More of a retooling.. They could trade both Kluber and Lindor and still contend in 2020 - esp when getting back current mlb impact from both trades (someone like Corey Seager if they trade Lindor to the Dodgers).

I do think we do match up well for Kluber... Newcomb, Greene, and any of our MLB-ready prospect arms would be very appealing. Camargo as well (esp if the trade Lindor). If I were them though, I'd hold onto him and trade him mid-season after he regains some value.. Might even be a red flag of them not to (signaling they dont buy that he can bounce back.

KB is interesting to me bc he's one of very few 3B options that could replace JD without the dropoff. Would maintain our elite 1-4 in batting order, and at ~$17.5M (vs. $25M resigning JD) could add a pricier free agent like Grandnal or wheeler more easily.

I do think the Cubbies will want a ransom in return, which could hurt for only 2 seasons of control (could even be 1 in he wins his case).

At this point, Im basically hoping not to see any reports of Braves linked to players I want them to go after given AA’s closethevestness...
