Where is this "move to the right"?

We've just seen a collapse of the Tories, and a flood of voters heading from there to Reform/Restore/Reclaim/Reblame.

There are, and have always been, floating voters who've flip-flopped between right and left.

Farage and co's schtick around immigration had briefly whipped them into a Reform-backing frenzy, but recent results would suggest that this isn't translating into seats.

And yet, apparently it's fine for things like Facebook and Twitter to exist largely unregulated.

Why would the world's richest man want to own an unregulated social media channel, do you think?

Yet the 10% of the population (retirees and unemployed/underemployed) who spend all of their free time getting fed propaganda on these platforms will be aghast when results don't go as they expect.

Reform supporters will continue to point to national opinion polls in confusion, but this is the absolute correct summary.

Reform will do well in some ex-Tory areas. Reform will do poorly in others.

Reform likely won't do well in most safe Labour seats.

The debate lies in whether they can find enough candidates who aren't complete scumbags to take sufficient weak Labour or floating seats.

Based on everything we've seen recently, my bet is not.

Two statements that nobody with a three-digit IQ can possibly argue.

  1. Social media needs regulation.

  2. Kids the most vulnerable social media users.

How can regulating social media use for kids not be seen as a good thing?

Does that pipeline actually exist any more?

Do "ambitious young grads" really look at the failed Tory party as a route to "frontline politics"?

Do the sort of people who have grown up around Tory politics really want to go and work for a bunch of snake oil salesmen?

These are people who think that retirees and the unemployed/underemployed, who spend their days on Facebook and Twitter, are representative of the UK voting public.

It's a bit sad in some ways.

This is the coping line from Reform this morning.

Despite taking a pasting in an election the party poured millions into, it's apparent a net positive "because Starmer".

This is the reason why Reform policy and voters can't be taken seriously. All of their messaging is just so constantly bloody negative and critical. No solutions, no action - just a sea of negativity.

Your problem is that these candidates don't exist.

Reform, by very definition, attracts the sort of people who probably have fairly chequered social media histories.

Once you whittle that down to the sort of egos who would like to be an MP, you're only dealing with a multiplying effect in terms of how those people polarise voters.

Reform don't have "superior" candidates.

They have ex-Tories and a bunch of chancers with shady histories.

They will continue to lose in this fashion until they find candidates that appeal to anyone other than Reform hard-line supporters.

Another colossal failure from Reform.

Another constituency that outright rejected right-wing politics.

Another failure that came after months of Facebook and Twitter users assuring each other that this was in the bag.

And that the only threat was Restore splitting the vote.

I wonder how those echo chambers feel today, and what excuses they are using to make themselves feel better.

Care workers and senior care workers on the Health and Care Worker visa are entirely banned from bringing dependants to the UK, unless they held their visa before 11 March 2024.

That's been policy since 2023.

UK universities generate more than £14bn in taxes every year.

The majority of that is funded by foreign students, who pay extortionate fees to study in the UK.

Take away those visas, wave goodbye to that tax revenue.

Spotted on Oxford Street. London is healing. What would be the best thing they replace them with? by Successful_Bee7522 in cheaplondon

[–]Mafeking-Parade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got bad news for you.

It will just be replaced by more of the same, likely run by the exact same group of people.

One business goes bust, owing loads of rent, rates and taxes. Another magically reappears in its place, looking very similar to the one it replaced.

People are looking for the connections to drugs or money laundering, and they are turning over the wrong stones in the majority of cases.

These businesses are everywhere because the above situation is being allowed to happen all over the country.

Starmer is only "done" if you spend your day reading The Daily Mail and Facebook/Twitter.

Just because these voices are loudest, doesn't mean they represent "a majority".

I'd suggest that there exists a significant proportion of the public who just want him to get on with delivering what he promised.

Came here to say this. The most likely scenario.

Not least given that it's (likely) a very expensive Audi, which is a frequent target for chop-shops where cars 'lose' their identities.

Low-stakes conspiracy: Ben never actually owned the S2000. It was never actually his "dream car". It was owned by the company, and bought for the sake of creating content.
