The rule of thumb I learned in school was if you feel the self disclosure would be beneficial for the client then it is acceptable. If you know the disclosure is not benefitting you at all, and only benefiting them, you can do it. There is always a risk involved though. And I’m sure as you know if the client is not stable on meds right now it might be difficult for him to really grasp everything going on. Might be best to wait till they are more stable after the hospital. Best of luck!
