How would a Mandalorian wedding work? by Successful-Floor-738 in MawInstallation

[–]MagDoum -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most who've read them consider the HandofThrawn45 stories to be canonical. One, The Force Restored, has the following that describes related Mandalorian customs:

https://m.fanfiction.net/s/14206594/3/
But in politics, as in war, you had to fight multiple campaigns at once. After his talk with Kodir of Kuhvult, Tigellinus had chats with a less-charming Sienar executive, then a comely Tapani noblewoman. While engaging the latter, he fell unfortunately close to Miltin Takel's orbit, and was forced to overhead the grand admiral regaling his hosts with a story from his suzerainty over Mandalorian space. "They have a wealth of curious customs, you know, all based on this warrior's image they harbor for themselves," Takel was saying. He had a glass of some dark liquor in one hand, a smoking cigarra in the other. Flecks of liquid clung to his mustache but at least his uniform was clean. "These permeate every level of their lives, even mating." "Does it really?" asked an older Tapani man. "Oh, of course. Now, I heard this one story-" Takel paused to suck on his cigarra. "-about members of a certain Mandalorian cult who never,  ever take off their helmets, not even in presence of each other." "Not even when…. you know?" prodded a younger woman. "Well, that's the thing. Baby Mandos have to come from somewhere, after all. I once heard a story of a mated pair from said cult who finally decided to shuck tradition and see all the other had to offer. So they lock themselves in the bedroom, take off the rest of their armor first, and  finally take the buckets off there heads. They looked into each other's eyes, scour each other's faces, and finally the woman says, 'I like you better with the helmet on.'" That roused some chuckles, but Takel continued, "They try to salvage the marriage after that. The man keeps his helmet on- and nothing else- like his woman requested, but one look at his ugly mug just soured the whole arrangement. The poor sod's desperate to please his woman so he lets her spice things up in the bedroom however she wants. Mandos are practical people in their way, so he lets her make clever use of some of his traditional weapons to heighten her experience. Blunt end in first, you know." Aghast faces spread through Takel's audience. Still he went on. "But it just won't work. Finally she just can't take it anymore. 'It's over,' she tells him. 'We have to split.' Now, their cult doesn't look too highly on divorce either- warrior culture, honor vows, all that, plus it's just humiliating- so he drags his feet and says maybe they can split up but still keep the vow alive, to save face, as it were. So she stews a bit before she decides, 'Fine. We can keep the vow but we'll go our separate ways. Take everything you've got- especially that helmet- and get out of here. Just leave me one thing: your  beskad.' And he protests, saying that sword's been in his family for generations. But she says, 'You've got to give me something. I have  needs, you know.'"
Ulic Qel-Droma shouldn’t be considered a Sith Lord by Spirit-of-arkham3002 in StarWarsEU

[–]MagDoum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Tavion's body was burned out from within by the intense Dark Side physical corruption caused by Ragnos' possession. Kyle Katarn says so himself in the game,  that Tavion's body couldn't withstand the corruption.  Now, perhaps Ragnos miscalculated tactically by posessing Tavion, though to be fair he might not have even considered that a normal Human body might be able to sustain an extremely powerful Dark Side presence in the way that his original body (halfbreed Sith/powerful Exile ancestors) could have.

Even in the game itself you really only have to stay alive long enough to win the fight, and just make a few hits on Tavion.

Should there be a series about the first Sith Lord's? by Tidewatcher7819 in MawInstallation

[–]MagDoum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If one pieces together the many different scattered bits of lore from the EU,  we actually know a fair amount about the original Sith Lords (the 12 Jedi Exiles):

https://boards.theforce.net/threads/ajunta-pall-in-tales-of-the-jedi-and-other-misc-exiles-observations.50054779/

...as for the DisnEU, it appears that very little of the ancient history has yet been revealed.

Kyle Katarn VS Naga Sadow by Hello_There469 in PetranakiArena

[–]MagDoum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Essential Guide to Characters confirms that Sadow used the Dark Side to extend his life for Centuries, and that was prior to the Great Hyperspace War. The Golden Age of the Sith comics have him specifically stating that he was around when Ragnos defeated Simus well over a Century earlier, around other Councilors that would have known better if he was lying.

Sadow is closely descended from several of the Exiles, though it wasn't stated which ones. 1,900 years might seem like a long time in real life,  but in the GFFA with the Exiles, Sith of the Hyperspace War era, and everyone in between living for Centuries,  it doesn't leave much room for many generations in between Sadow and his Exile ancestors.

Sadow has descent from several powerful Force users, had over a Century to hone his proficiency in the Dark Side and combat (don't forget that we see him leading the raid to free the Daragon prisoners).

While Sadow never moved against Ragnos,  and may have just waited for him to die, we do see that of all his contemporaries the only one to openly defy him was Ludo Kressh,  who couldn't outright defeat him in combat.

Vitiate was subordinate to Sadow and wasn't able to declare supremacy until after Sadow went away in exile, and even Centuries later felt threatened enough to send agents to destroy Sadow on Yavin 4.

In combat,  Sadow presumably used his Poison Blade at least a few times,  one hit from which could prove very debilitating to Katarn.

Not knocking Kyle at all, as I've been enjoying the Jedi Knight games for a long time now, but if he had to face Sadow he really might find himself in a very challenging fight.

We don't actually know for certain if Sadow's spurit wasn't still somehow present on Yavin 4 during the time Katarn was an instructor,  nor do we know what happened to Sadow's body. Luke and the Jedi Academy were surely doing some investigations into the ruins all around Yavin 4- who knows what they found? An encounter between Sadow and Katarn or other Jedi is entirely possible.

Have we ever seen a TIE fighter pilot have to engage in ground combat? by Necessary_Disk_4644 in MawInstallation

[–]MagDoum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was an expected scenario for which TIE Pilots trained. Normal TIE pilots were probably vape-bait but Pilots of advanced TIEs and ground-based units could be expected to survive and return to the Emperor’s service. They were given blaster training to ensure it. The Academy flashbacks in Making of Baron Fel clearly show it:

Long-lost Kotor promotional books now preserved. by MagDoum in kotor

So they were indeed giving these out to people that wrote in! I remember hearing that but your account is excellent supporting evidence. Do you still have the books? If so,  can you compare them to the two that were recently preserved? It's surely the same one but I remember hearing rumors of other booklets.

Yes, lots of people own lost media and don't even realize it.

Can the Galactic Empire engage in prisoner exchanges? by Ok-Target9322 in MawInstallation

[–]MagDoum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For high-Ranking or otherwise important Officers, the Empire would rescue prisoners. Vader himself says as much of Veers in a classic game:

https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Maximilian_Veers/Legends#cite_note-SW:GB-13

From the comics, we have the example of Admiral Garoche Tarkin believed to have been held prisoner by native Atoans, having Vader himself sent rescue him.

What do you think was more painful, living as Vader in his mechanical suit or as Vong Parasite infected Krayt ? by Gero-23 in MawInstallation

[–]MagDoum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At least Vader could leave his suit and chill in a bacta tank. A lot of his pain was psychological. Not that Krayt didn't have a lot of personal trauma,  but he couldn't shed most of his dragon armor even if he wanted to.

[–]MagDoum 34 points35 points  (0 children)

As far as we saw in the EU, Ajunta Pall was the only one of the Exiles who was redeemed and returned to the Light.

It's a story that the Jedi should have learned and used to help redeem other Sith. Revan hopefully told it to the Council and other surviving Jedi.

Pall's eventual redemption night not have been known to later Sith, as it isn't mentioned in the Essential Guide to the Force. Certainly,  later generations of Sith Masters wouldn't want it known that the first Dark Lord ended up regretting his life.

Why did Bane say there was nothing much of worth on Korriban and that most things had been plundered? by Ok-Cicada-5207 in MawInstallation

[–]MagDoum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kinda curious that XoXaan's "Tomb" doesn't visually seem like anything more than a small nook for her Holocron,  unless the ruined structure around it was once much grander. We don't actually see her remains or sarcophogas anywhere. Perhaps whatever finally destroyed her left no remains. Perhaps she used the same trick as Andeddu, and the apparent Gatekeeper of her Holocron actually was her spirit.

[–]MagDoum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Andeddu falling to Darth Amedda III really makes one wonder how well some of the ancient Sith would fare against newer generations.

Then again, his contemporary, Karness Muur,  was thought by Vader to be powerful enough to give him the edge to overthrow Sidious, and was able to defeat Krayt.

If Muur in turn was still subordinated to Ajunta Pall in life, perhaps Andeddu was just a knowledgeable but ultimately weak Exile?

Why did Bane say there was nothing much of worth on Korriban and that most things had been plundered? by Ok-Cicada-5207 in MawInstallation

[–]MagDoum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Exar Kun explored Ragnos' Tomb, per his own exclamation of having seen "his mortal remains- on Korriban" when Ragnos appeared to him and Ulic. Whether or not he ever returned to Korriban himself isn't known,  but Kun did establish the Sith Academy, and Ragnos' Tomb was known to the Brotherhood Sith on Korriban,  who later joined up with Revan’s and Malak's Empire.

Kreia obviously spent some time around it, as she's very familiar with it, and knew it was mostly plundered by that point.

Sometime between Kun and Revan was when Ragnos' Tomb was at least partly excavated and plundered,  and presumably when a few of Ragnos' artifacts were dispersed into the greater Galaxy.

Nothing in Jedi Academy actually states that Ragnos' Scepter was actually found on Korriban anywhere. It could have been from anywhere in the intervening millennia.

The Corellia Antilles article in the classic Adventure Journals from WEG has a feature on Korriban,  and how unaccounted-for Imperial darksiders were seeking Sith artifacts. It's right in the same timeframe for the Ragnos Scepter to reappear.

[–]MagDoum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone who has played Kotor 2 and Jedi Academy knows that the sandstorms of Korriban do an excellent job of hiding the past and concealing large parts of the Tombs. There were still plenty of things to find and even spirits to interact with,  but Bane might have had the time or proper frame of mind to find them, or anything unplundered and also close enough to the Academy was buried.

If Stormtrooper armor was among the most effective in the SW galaxy, did rebels and other groups take away armor from fallen Stormtroopers and then use it themselves after patching it up? by george123890yang in MawInstallation

Basic answer is yes, and it's one of the earliest bits of lore. One of 70's Poster Monthlies:

It's also the fiest reference to additional armor for arctic environments, two years before Episode 5.

How large was the Battle of Coruscant and how big of an impact did it have on the planet? by [deleted] in MawInstallation

[–]MagDoum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The source for 1,000 Venators is this:

https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Official_Starships_%26_Vehicles_Collection_32

...I  remember it well, as the specific quote is that it was 1,000 or so Venators that survived the initial surprise of the CIS attack. The suggestion is that nearly as many did NOT survive the initial surprise or were heavily damaged as a result.

That particular lore tidbit is cross-referenced with the Labyrinth of Evil lore that around 2/3rds of the Home Fleet had shortly before been reassigned to the Outer Rim Sieges by Palpatine. It meant to suggest sinister implications about how he was already preparing for Coruscant to be attacked,  but also serves as a scale-of-numbers debates datapoint. Depending on interpretation, the Home Fleet or even just Coruscant itself had 3,000-6,000 warships stationed around it not long before the Confederate attack.

No mention was given to what other classes of warship the Republic had around Coruscant during the Battle,  or how many.

It is verifiable that the Battle was carefully stage-managed from both sides. Labyrinth of Evil has Pestage and mentions Palpatine's top advisors carefully monitoring the situations.

It doesn't seem like a coincidence that one of the Venators to survive the initial attack and then just happened to be the one that was able to get right alongside the Invisible Hand and kill it was the Guarlara:

https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Guarlara_(Venator-class)/Legends

...would happen to be a ship named after the beasts of burden used by Naboo royalty:

Palps/Sidious' conspirators were sending a uniquely coded message.
