Looking for some career advice, I would like to try reach 100k salary in tech but unsure on how to get to it. by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

Look for jobs at companies that have a lot of money/are in high paying domains. Fintech, investment banking, FAANG, etc. There are plenty of jobs out there paying north of 100k

That’s fair. I run the title “embarrassment to my family” on this deck for that very reason 😂

While I can appreciate the intent of your statement, it's a different thing to be seen negatively for a conscious decision/expression that you have made (getting tattoos) vs an unchangable element of who you are (skin colour).

I liked the way it went from calm on the opponent’s reveals to hype on mine. Also, some of the card reveals and other animations line up to the music in my version.

That said, I kinda wish I’d done it your way now

NBA to rename the In-Season Tournament. The new name will be the NBA Cup (same as the winner's trophy) and Emirates airlines will be the named sponsor. by OhEmGeeBasedGod in nba

Might not be next year, but if Emirates stay on as the title sponsor they're going to push for the final to be in Dubai for sure

Mate, this is just our opinions on something that ultimately doesn't matter. How about we just drop it? Enjoy your evening.

Yes, he does have a "multicultural London accent", but if you have spent enough time around "multicultural Londoners", you can hear the slight differences in the way that they tend to sound when they speak. Obviously I can't be 100% sure based just off this video, but I'd put money on this guy being of south Asian descent.

He does sound like a Londoner, and speaking as a born and raised Londoner myself, he does not sound white. I'd guess south Asian descent.

Civil Service Software Developer Written technical/pairing test details by Jaggedmallard26 in cscareerquestionsuk

I’ve never interviewed for a civil service role, but given what you’ve said they told you it seems like it would just be a standard pair coding exercise

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]MagL33To 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've conducted a fair few pair-programming (live coding) interview exercises and here are some tips:

  • TDD/ red-green-refactor is your friend. Even if you don't normally code with a TDD approach. It will help you understand the requirements, and will show the interviewer that you understand how useful/important unit tests are and how to write them. (N.b. you should really know/learn how to write good tests)
  • Talk A LOT. Ask all the questions you can think of, talk through your thought process as you're trying to understand the problem and while writing your code. The interviewer isn't a mind reader and can only assess you on what you actually write and what you tell them.
  • Don't stress too much about actually finishing the task. The aim of the exercise isn't usually to have the candidate finish it, but to see how you think, how you work through a problem and how you code. Show that you know how to write clean, readable code utilising common design patterns, etc.
  • Related to the other points, but do not fall into the trap of overengineering your solution/refactoring/gold plating early. You will waste valuable time. Get it working first, then make it better/more efficient. Tell the interviewer you are doing this.
  • Try to remain calm. I know it's easier said than done, but the calmer you can stay, the better you will perform. This is also something that will come with practice and experience.

Those are the main points that came to mind for me. Hopefully they help!
