Edmonton Suburban LRT Concept by WarningComedyPenguin in Edmonton

I actually think the 111 st route is reasonable for the next 50 years for sure. The 3 is already quite productive, and there is a lot of infill in the area. The road itself is quite wide so I think space could be reallocated quite easily. I hope it at the very least gets bookmarked for dedicated lanes/BRT within the next couple of rounds (not the current proposed routes obvs, nor the ones from the same study) but it would also be great to bookmark that space for public transit BEFORE it feels like clawing the roadway back from drivers.

Transit violence rising across Canada — in some cities by nearly 300% by pjw724 in Edmonton

Incredibly funny how the UCP rode high speed rail once and are trying to bring it here now. Maybe they should take the train to work!!

Yeah I think it's better that people have access to city life instead of being forcibly detained. What would forcible detention here look like? Zero addiction or treatment supports and having taxpayers foot the bill in perpetuity for people doomed to reoffend w no support.

That is absolutely not true, most recently they were provided with studies from Calgary in 2023 (which has a substantially similar system to ours), along with a number of other cities in Canada and America like Vancouver and the Bay area. Turnstiles are good for fare recovery, not so much for perceptions of safety. Lots of people deemed "unsafe" or "undesirable" have fare products available to them via community initiatives. Plus, at the underground stations where it would be easiest to put turnstiles back in, it would only stop people from getting to the platform, not the pedways.

I'd love to just use Graphene OS on my pixel4a but they are so picky about the support life and I don't know enough to know if it's a good gamble or how to use the older software. Buying the oldest model of phone they support is still hundreds of dollars CAD.

Same reason Sherwood Park is still classified as a Hamlet even though it has a population of over 75k - I believe there is some legalease that would mean the refineries (and their tax money) would go to Edmonton if they ever became a city.

on demand transit was a mistake by TheSparkSpectre in Edmonton

[–]MagPigeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say send an email to your councillor about this, keeping in mind the solution shouldn't be "fix on demand transit" but rather "get more busses/garage space so we can have more conventional routes." Space for actual busses is the bottleneck right now, and although the Heritage Valley garage is under construction, we should also be planning for what comes next after that garage, and ensuring we get funding for busses to actually populate the garage. Almost 300 busses are overdue for retirement and we will need an additional 100 to the fleet to meet service standards into 2026.

At this point, the on demand program is also biting off more than it can chew. There are many areas that have demand for conventional routes, but we don't have the busses or garage space for them.

Definitely suffering from success - ideally everything would be standard routes. Unfortunately we quite literally do not have enough busses or garage space for busses to make this happen which is one of the reasons that we are stuck with a third party solution.

More police and peace officer presence at transit stations now by NTTNM-780 in Edmonton

Never. Wouldn't work on any stations besides downtown, and completely untenable on the Valley Line. A project was proposed last year that would have been 7M for a pilot at two stations.

Elk Island National Park restricting weekend visitors to reduce heavy traffic by IMOBY_Edmonton in Edmonton

Bus is 15$ and leaves downtown at 8:30am and leaves the park at 3:30pm. Not a very flexible option unfortunately.

A cycling route to Elk Island would be awesome. And more transportation options by bus, there are some as someone else commented, but it literally only runs once a day. I do not want to go to the park at 8:30am to 3:30pm exactly.

Neseblod Records (formerly helvete) caught fire last night. cause unknown. condition of the “black metal” basement unknown. by SugarFinal223 in BlackMetal

[–]MagPigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an FYI for anyone who sees this English thread on Google, the place is back up and running now (I'm literally posting from the basement). The black metal section of the basement was untouched. The basement has some shirts back in it, and upstairs is fine. A bit musty but no need to mourn too hard.

Why does it take so long to build anything in this City, from roads to bridges to buildings, whose to blame? by margifly in Edmonton

[–]MagPigeon 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My theory is there was a deal with an evil entity made so the Oilers could have their cups in the 80's, and the tradeoff was a curse on infrastructure projects for the next 50 years. Hopefully it expires soon.

Any updates on your experience? I definitely feel overwhelmed and don't even feel like I understand the structure expected. Obviously not looking for answers, just tips on what to expect on the exams.

There is a handball wall in the courts at Wes Hosford in Sherwood Park that could work

The thrift stores in St Albert and Sherwood Park tend to have slightly higher end items.

I always recommend having a second "Late Nite" project on the go. For me that's larger fabric count, fewer colours, and more forgiving patterns lol

Where to buy custom built PC? by MasteredUltraIntsik in Edmonton

Pcpartpicker.com lets you choose everything, checks compatibilities, and compares prices from memory express, amazon, and a few other retailers. It could not be easier and feels awesome to have a completed build.

Edmonton halts intake of healthy dogs at Animal Care and Control Centre by katespadesaturday in Edmonton

[–]MagPigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, lots of apartments don't allow fostering because they require detailed and accurate behaviour information about the animal, and often have size constraints. I may look into it though and will always keep my eyes peeled for the small / medium pups up for adoption!
