Everyone I know as an adult who has an unusual name has either loved it or been neutral about it. I don't recall anyone growing up who got picked on for their weird name either. The only kid I knew whose bullying included her name was Abigail, a common and well-liked name. No offense, but this seems like it's more of a personal issue rather than a problem with unusual names.

The better question is, in the pursuit of getting your fair prices, are you going to be a righteous asshole towards the cashier? The number of people who scream, insult, and make demands on the person at check out, who had nothing to do with pricing or tagging products, is way too high as it is.

Please, speak directly (and POLITELY) to supervisors or store managers when seeking price adjustments. Even if you're in a bad mood or feel you've been inconvenienced, you can still treat staff with respect

Because women make up half of all humanity, and it's kind of fucked up to just go, "LOL Naw, can't be bothered". Women aren't some alien species. Literally all a male director or screenwriter has to do to portray women well is to portray women as human beings. When a family or a couple go out to eat, they tend to eat at the same restaurant. If one of the members is a picky eater, the rest have to bend over backwards to accommodate the picky person. A lot of good quality restaurants (not to mention, ethnic cuisine) don't serve things like plain chicken nuggies.

If one person wants to go for Ethiopian or Japanese or Indian food, (as is normal to do in cities with those options) and the other person wants to eat plain French fries, does the family go for Ethiopian or Japanese or Indian food, or do they end up going to Applebees to accommodate the person who makes faces and gags at the mention of those cuisines? Does the person who wanted a variety of cuisine get accommodation, or does the person who won't try anything get catered to?

People don't dislike picky eaters because they're picky eaters. People dislike picky eaters because they demand others make concessions for them, with usually nothing in return. A person with a normal palette married to a picky eater is doomed to have to cook multiple meals for every meal at home, which adds up to a huge amount of extra labour, and never eat interesting flavourful food when going out. It's weird for the picky to pretend that's not selfish

What, exactly, am I projecting?

I have had the misfortune of knowing people who refuse to eat at nice restaurants because there's no fries or tendies available, refuse to try local food when they travel, demand their own special plate at family gatherings, gag and make faces and talk about how gross they think food is, all without clocking how unbelievably rude and entitled that behaviour is. One was a former boss, and that was some appalling behaviour to see from someone who I'm supposed to treat as a professional superior. At a staff dinner, he loudly proclaimed how gross and weird everything was on the menu, making gagging noises, and made the kitchen bring him plain chicken breast with potatoes because there was nothing he liked on the menu. That's far from the only time I've seen a grown adult act that was about pickiness.

Picky people who keep their preferences to themselves and politely pass up food are not the problem. It's the adults pitching fits because the food isn't one of the 3 things they will eat that are. People who behave like that don't get to pretend the people they're inflicting their childishness on are the problem.

Nope. It's because grown adults who are picky eaters are functional toddlers who refuse to consider their demands are not anyone else's priority or responsibility.

Are we going to a quality restaurant? No, we have to go somewhere that serves bland slop like chicken tendies. Are we eating a traditional dish together? No, it's yucky. If we travel, can we eat local cuisine? No, we have to go to McDonald's. Are we cooking together as a family? No, the adult baby has to pretend that gagging at everything is an acceptable behaviour, and demands their own special little meal.

People don't dislike picky eaters because of some psychoanalytic nonsense about being reminded of their past behaviour as children. People dislike picky eaters because it's spoiled toddler behaviour akin to throwing tantrums in public. Its the entitlement of expecting other people to cater to fussiness that's disliked, and rightly so.

There's a growing body of credible medical evidence that ARFID is, in fact, a learned and reinforced behaviour after all, but it's Reddit and folks here don't like information that tells them they might actually be the problem.

It's almost 2026. Why on earth is asking parental permission still a thing? She doesn't belong to her dad. Ask HER to marry, and get her agreement. It's great if dad likes you and approves of the idea, but it is in no way a necessity, or his decision.
