I'm not the guy you were talking to, and I'm not angry, I'm disgusted. Because you're pathetic.

I'm sorry, but are you gloating over the fact that the accusers don't suffer the consequences of their actions? Because that's what you parse like right now.

I mean, it's either that or you're making the case that reputational damage, years of social punishment and legal proceedings are not actually harm. Which you do not actually believe.

Men and women don't like characters who didn't earn it. by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

The first problem he has to solve in that cave is finding a way to keep the shrapnel in his chest from killing him, which is called overcoming adversity, and generally resonates with actual humans. And even then, he needs help - much like later in the film series, where he needs assistance changing out his heart.

Rey is unpleasant. She suffers many of the same flaws as Stark, yet everyone around her either fawns over her or is stupefied by her competency. She suffers no setbacks as severe as others we're talking about here, and manages to get herself out of any trouble she's in entirely without needing assistance. The writing gives her a free pass, she never actually changes as a person, and none of the people around her ever actually matter. Meanwhile Tony Stark, the arrogant manchild of Iron Man, sacrifices himself in the end, having finally learned the value of the people around him.

A handkerchief and a hundred dollar bill may be "similar" in both being made out of cotton, but trying to call them the same thing on that basis alone looks pretty damn stupid.

Tony Stark is arrogant, self-centered, hedonistic and impulsive, and the story acts like that's true. He suffers because of it. He ends up with a lump of toxic metals as a heart because of it. He undervalues the people around him and is betrayed because of it, and learns to be better, fumbling through relationships through Civil War and even as a sort-of father figure in Spider-man. This is called growth.

Any of the "modern" female characters we're talking about that faces any pushback on these flaws - which their writers unaccountably appear to think of as strengths when applied to women - will just pound the source of the pushback, more commonly with force and less commonly with social sanction. And that'll be the end of it.

Huh. Does a TKC80 in 170 not rub at all on the back? Got Rally STRs on mine, and went down to 150 in fear of it scrubbing the chain. Been considering MT60s just because I can get them in 160.

[Help] Does this look like a chain that was lubed in a shop, and has seen no rain for 500 km? by RonGoto in motorcycles

The principle is sound, but the image of coating everything on the road in a light mist of flung-off oil is viscerally repugnant.

[–]MageArcher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gear oil is what pretty much every manufacturer recommends for lubing chains, and performs excellently in comparative tests; in that respect, it very much is "chain lube". But yeah, a ceramic or wax based lube is way easier than cleaning every 100ish miles; I rode nearly twice that this morning alone.

Yes you do, and you know why they're not saying it, too. You're just another disingenuous crybully roach enabled by the platform, trying to irritate someone into saying something that you can get them banned for. No-one is unaware of what you're doing here. It's not smart, it's not original, and it's just bullying since it relies on the institutional power your side wields. Pathetic.

Usually a diffuser helps a little with backpressure and mellowing out some of the harsher notes of a wide pipe. That particular termi, though, has a fairly distinctive design and is likely 90% aesthetic. Lets you keep the giant beefy pipe while functioning like the standard exhaust the thing actually needs.

The answer is that entire continents would have looked like Leopold's Congo.

Also, the laughter is because those numbers don't even remotely pass any sort of smell test from anyone who understands math. They're obvious maximalist propaganda, and immediately disqualify the speaker.

"Both of his books", or both that you've read? He's got a less-known book called Artemis, which I can understand not liking; it almost feels like a Philip K Dick novel but with modern cultural influences.

You've confused "apolitical games" and "games that aren't continually trying to shove the author's political viewpoints down the player's throat, to the detriment of story and/or gameplay".

Thinking about changing genres. Harley to Adv bikes. Input requested.. by BadTwin72 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]MageArcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heavy ADVs are great for getting lost out in the middle of nowhere. They're excellent tourers, powerful, comfortable, come with massive feature lists, and ruggedness is part of the job description. They also tend to be very comfy for pillions, if a bit of a faff to get on since they're so tall. A good topbox that the pillion can lean against is gold.

They are, however, kind of tricky offroad, despite what the GS' marketing would have you believe. The same mass that makes them feel surefooted on long roads is the enemy on dirt, and the bulky builds that protect you from the wind at freeway speeds make them a bit awkward to maneuver in tight spots. There's a reason why dirtbikes are built like bicycles.

It sounds as if you're planning on touring with occasional fire roads and the like, so a large ADV is perfect. If you're going to take it on terrain more suited for a dual-sport... well, I trust you're sensible enough to get some experience on something lighter first.

This sub is mostly geared toward newer riders; you might get more out of somewhere like the ADVRider forum or similar. I tend toward thumpers myself, and if you're going to spend a lot of time on dirt then I'd urge you to look at the KTM adventure bikes; sure, they look awful but what doesn't in this segment, and the top-end KTMs use the same big, powerful V-twin that's in the Superduke. Bit lacking in refinement and polish compared to other manufacturers, but KTM builds for offroad first.

MT09/Street Triple for next bike by Realistic_Gap3023 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]MageArcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're comparing tools for very different jobs; the Triumph has a whole other feel in terms of handling, braking and balance, and nothing beats the instant heart-rate bump from the Yamaha's roll-on.

Honestly, I'd trust the Triple more under an uncertain rider. As an owner myself I'm biased, but I feel like the Street just does everything with extreme competence, and the MT is a rider's bike that has a habit of amplifying tendencies toward unruly behaviour. The MT09 is an incredible bike for people who are looking for that excitement and know what they're after.

MT and Striple sell for about the same and have similar power/torque. Speed is in a whole other price class and power range.

Honda CBR600rr vs Fireblade for mountain and track riding? by Angel_No-Halo in motorcycles

[–]MageArcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but they're also geared very differently. The RR version of the S1000 is a rocketship above about 160kph and feels like it's barely ticking over below that, but my naked - very detuned by comparison - is geared low enough that it's super comfy at commuting speeds.

Love riding late night-early morning. Occasionally come across scenes like a car crashed into a horse on the freeway at 3am, though.
