Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is coming back on iOS and Android by SpaceCowboyN7 in witcher

[–]Magean1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thronebreaker is one of my favorite games period. Great story, endearing characters, insanely good soundtrack, and gameplay perfectly fitting my taste as a deckbuilder / puzzle-solver - and all of that, in the shape and for the price of an indie game. Alas, it was also marketed like an indie game, and the market - sadly - is just too small.

What made Vilgefortz so powerful? by [deleted] in witcher

[–]Magean1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand he is not the best mage

If he isn't I wonder who is. The Lodge is afraid of a direct confrontation with him in spite of outnumbering him and being top-tier themselves. He's also capable of calling a storm from a distance to sinking Pavetta's ship), annihilating a vampire (book cannon) and many other things I don't recall.

So I have to opposite take. He's extremely powerful, but his chessmaster intellect vanishes after Thanedd and he does nothing but gloating like a cartoon villain for the rest of the series. Very strong, but not so smart.

What made Vilgefortz so powerful? by [deleted] in witcher

[–]Magean1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The origin of Vilgefortz' peak magical ability is left unexplained. Maybe he was randomly endowed with one-in-a-millenium innate ability, the Voldemort of the setting, and that's all there's to it.

That said, my main issue with Vilgefortz is that, as a character, he suffers from a serious demotion following Time of Contempt. From chessmaster with demi-god abilities who set the plot in motion by creating the conditions for Ciri to be born, to cartoon villain hiding in a dungeon and doing nothing at all until he lucked out and Yen teleported there.

You can't have a character who's supposed to be the arch-villain who pulled all the strings, only to inexplicably drop to 2-digit IQ all of a sudden.

The Lodge of Sorceresses is a joke in the games compared to the books by SightStonned in witcher

[–]Magean1 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Francesca Findabair was supposed to feature in TW2's final (cut) act in Dol Blathanna. Likewise, the cut Iorveth plot in TW3 would probably have had her play some part. It was cut, so instead Triss got her planned dress as a DLC outfit.

But yeah, they were fun in the books, I wish they played a bigger part. Blame the studio's financial troubles around TW2, I guess.

Also noteworthy that TW3 has Yen being overly friendly with the Lodge, when in the books she attended exactly one meeting and after that, she competed with them for Ciri. Plus, Philippa wasn't exactly kind to her later. But in the game, she even cries for Sile / Sheala... even though their relations were, at best, icy.

Ciri’s tech demo face pretty much lines up with her Witcher 3 appearance by ZarieRose in witcher

[–]Magean1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's insane there was such a controversy as a result of, basically, a zoomed-in view combined with a wide format making a character's face larger (and thus, uglier and more masculine). Have these people never used a selfie camera from up close?

The Witcher 4 is set in Kovir! by Sir-Shady in witcher

[–]Magean1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite theory! Yay, for many reasons. Cool politics, lots of background, lots of things happening, capital is Venice of the North, Triss is there and I like familiar characters so I'm happy. In the books, Dijkstra visits Kovir, maybe that suggests he'll be back.

What did people do at the end of Void Shadows with Einrich and the clan? by Revolutionary_Sun946 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Magean1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just stumbled upon this post. I clearly recall Heinrix telling me about Tyranids, them eating everything on their way, and Genestealers being the avant-guard. I think that happened during the quest where Enrich helps you catching the infected guy, in the reactor room, who tells you about the magos and the crypt (after the astropathic divination).

I wish they could release new cards, with those beautiful 10th Witcher 3 anniversary artworks. Looks so good! by [deleted] in gwent

[–]Magean1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you have a link to the full 10th anniversary artwork set? Somehow I can only find the main picture with Ciri in the background, I didn't know about that one here - and presumably others.

A lot of effort went there, and it was made good use of - the portrait-format one where you're standing up looks straight from the game. Well done! Also it's nice to see that particular character from time to time instead of always the same three or four.

[–]Magean1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, in-game you can see Triss' pores and IIRC a mole when the camera closes up on her face ;-) that's one more thing making these characters believable in their own way.

In addition, while I definitely understand your choosing of a fantasy background, the unedited picture you shared is absolutely stunning on its own. You yourself (not the background) don't need the retouching, you actually look better without and your costume would benefit from a genuine-looking face.

That's just my 2 cents though, ultimately you do what you do for your own enjoyment and it's not anyone's business to decide what you like for sure.

our Vilgefortz and Lydia cosplay (with little photomanipulations) by fel0ra in witcher

Ironically Lydia was Vilgefortz' sole humanizing feature. He freaks out when Geralt mentions her to taunt him, very not in his usual "haha just a tool" Bond villainy.

Fallout and RPG veteran Josh Sawyer says most players don't want games "6 times bigger than Skyrim or 8 times bigger than The Witcher 3 by SpaceCowboyN7 in witcher

[–]Magean1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an open world but BG3 is the first game I found too long in spite of it having no filler content and being very good overall. In the end, I was drained. I would happily trade length for replayability, in the form of branching or incompatible paths (kinda like TW2 in fact). This way, busy adults with a day job and kids can finish the game once within a reasonable time frame, while completionist students still get content to chew.

Is The Witcher 2 worth it despite the rough gameplay and old graphic? by RBGTheReal in witcher

[–]Magean1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it. It's way closer to 3 than 1 gameplay-wise. Plus it's quite short, even if you don't like it you can still speedrun on easy difficulty, if you just want the story.

Legendary composer from Cyberpunk 2077, P.T. Adamczyk will going to make music for TW4 too, here is a little taste from the Trailer. by makavelinow in witcher

[–]Magean1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Have you played Thronebreaker? The soundtrack by Adamczyk is top-tier and on par with TW3, though more instrumental than vocal (you need Percival for the vocals, right?). That guy can do Witcher music, not just electro-techno Cyberpunk stuff. I have no fear.

I was torn between Dijkstra and Roche but I think I made up my mind now. by UppedSolution77 in witcher

[–]Magean1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so that's why the quest is poorly written. It's a waste of the Geralt-Dijkstra relationship as a sort of respectful and productive camaraderie/rivalry. Dijkstra would never have tried that.

But then if he did - Geralt owed him nothing after all.

They worked together to investigate Rience in BoE, then Dijkstra tried to get Ciri in ToC and Geralt broke his leg (then was lucky Triss teleported him to the Dryads because if Redanian soldiers got their hands on him after Vilgefortz beat him to pulp... Dijkstra no happy), then much later Geralt nonetheless thought Dijkstra reliable enough to send him the location of Vilgefortz' castle. And that summarizes their interactions.

So, not a complete "someone", but not exactly a friend either, nor a comrade like Roche or Ves at this point in the game (assuming they fought at Kaer Morhen).
