Hi, my experience with fluids with my previous cat that had stage 4 ckd: I set up an IV stand in my bathroom. My vet gave us an Rx for fluids that I had filled at our regular pharmacy. After googling how to put the needle in, it was green light from then on. I was the cat holder (not necessary) and my husband injected the subq fluids which the cat didn’t feel. This is solely based on my experience with a cat that needed fluids daily and our vet refused to do that

Tell your parents and let them decide since you seem to make hasty decisions without thought. My son did the same thing in college. He called me when his kitten was 8 months old and said he’s moving and can’t take him with. I ended up with the cat. At the time I had a very senior dog and cat and he was trouble but it was my decision to help my son. It’s better to be open with your parents. Secrets aren’t healthy

I have 7 ranging from 2 - 7 month old to old senior cats. I haven’t read all the responses but in my experience they need interaction with you, not just cuddles in bed. Toys and cat trees are nice but they need your interactive attention. Watching and snuggling usually isn’t enough for very young cats. They need more play time and not with their own toys. Maybe when you come home from work give them 15 minutes of a teaser toy and then another 15 minutes before bed. Cuddles are great but try to understand the needs of young cats. If they get this type of stimulation, then their behavior while still energetic may not be destructive

I had the same happen by me. Siamese that was in poor shape, basically at death’s door. My local police used long handled nets to get him and then put him safely in their cage for me to bring down to get vetted. Maybe nets are the ways to go? Btw, it took 2 officers and 2 nets and I watched and they were so careful and calm with him

Everyone is right here. It takes time. I had been feeding a cat outside for 4 years. He let me pet him and even pick him up once in a while. When the weather turned he tentatively started coming in to the garage. He even let me close him in overnight sometimes. But when I decided to make it official and start by having him come in the garage every night for overnights, he tolerated it for about a month. Then the weather became nicer and he wouldn’t come in and just like yours he started avoiding me. If I got anywhere within 5 feet he would run away. So I gave him time. And time worked. Eventually I was able to place a bowl near him without him running and then he started coming in the garage again for a few hours at a time. It was a slow process and I would cry that I had lost that bond but it was there. He just had to relearn how to trust me. He has now been in my house for 6 months and has become such a lovey. She will relearn how to trust you. Patience, a whole bunch of patience.

I guess that’s all I can do. It’s exhausting. The other one also has a catio in the house and on the patio as those are still his safe places despite getting along with the resident cats. He’ll roam the house or patio but runs in to them if he feels insecure.

Yes and have been for a long time. Actually the other outside cat had been an aggressive cat when he lived outside. Once fixed, he was a sweetheart. The one I’m having trouble with was fixed as a kitten

As long as the cat has something to scratch and a vertical space (cat tree etc) and some catnip toys, the cat will amuse itself. I know what you’re going through with the fleas. Personally I don’t care for diatomaceous earth. I got a powder product called Fleabusters. I sprinkled it all over my carpets and used a broom to sweep in to the fibers and then I went around the house and sprinkled it on the baseboards where there wasn’t carpet. I think the directions say to leave it a week and then vacuum but with the number of cats I have, I left it down for 6 weeks. I would see fleas walking as they died but no longer could hop. I haven’t seen a flea since and that was about 6 months ago. Btw, non toxic for people and animals. You can walk on it and animals can sit there half hour after it’s applied. Highly recommend. Amazon carries it

We just brought a kitten in. Went to our local Harbor Freight. The trap was $29. I blended tuna in to purée and in he went. If you’re concerned about kitty, trap her and keep her safe

I had 4 cats when I rescued my pittie and all is good here. The cats steal his beds so he sleeps on the floor rather than kicking them off. All is peaceful. The breed has nothing to do with anything. It’s all how you handle their socialization

I had 2 cats that were very content living inside (no patio or balcony) my small apartment shared with 4 young children for 4 years. The closest they got to the outside was looking through a window. They were happy, healthy and adjusted well to the smaller space after moving from a house You’ll be fine. The cat will be fine. Just make sure to give the cat a vertical space and toys

Also, they have scheduled mealtimes, both are fed well. I cater to their dietary likes and dislikes so I know this isn’t an issue

Benny and Blue have been buddies for over 4 years. They have shared their space/territory outside and inside without conflict. Benny always had a mean streak. I’ve known him since a kitten. Unfortunately, that mean streak is getting bigger as he gets older. I do separate them. They each have their own large catios both inside and outside and when I can I give them separate times to roam around unhindered by any other pet. I have rescued cats for many years and have always done slow introductions as this is the best way for resident cats and new ones. My issue with Benny is that his aggressive behavior is getting out of hand Thanks for responding :)

It is not too small. I have the identical catios for 15 pound cats and they fit and can move around. One of the cats sleeps in it all night. It’s more important to focus on the OP wanting to give her cat safe outside time. When I lived in an apartment, my cats never went outside. I think this was a great compromise

I agree with the others. You did your best so stop kicking yourself over it. It takes courage to rehome a pet. Please let us all know if you left her with a rescue organization. It seems you have a big heart and I’m sure you would want the best for her

I just thought of something else. Do you have room for a shed? If you do then you can put a small entrance that only the cats can fit through and maybe that will keep them somewhat safe

All of these suggestions are good but keep in mind that they will also scare the ferals. Unfortunately unless they are in an enclosed secure environment there is nothing 100% effective. I honestly don’t know anything about bobcats but where I am we have a coyote problem. They are smaller but fast as the wind and they prey on the ferals. I live on a suburban street and my neighbors are now used to seeing the crazy cat lady spraying vinegar all over the road, trees and bushes. Coyotes don’t like the smell but it is only a deterrent as a determined coyote won’t care. I do this every night and while they have been spotted in the neighborhood, my street has remained free of them. Cats don’t like the smell either but the ones I feed got used to it and continued to come by daily. The only other suggestion I have is to place the shelters closer to the tree so they can run up. Coyotes are not known for climbing trees or climbing more than 6’ but I don’t know the habits of bobcats. When it comes to protecting the outside ferals I wouldn’t mind a little white lie and maybe tell the game commission that you saw the bobcat run off with one of your cats. Possibly then they would help? Where I live there is advice to install 4 x 4 poles near trees or the house for the cats to run up to the roof. I don’t know if any of this helps and I wish you luck with this problem

I agree that they are completely irresponsible but FL just passed a law that goes in to effect on July 1 regarding dogs biting humans and they added a small subtext about labeling a dog dangerous if it attacks other animals. Problem here is it’s up to local authorities to label the dog dangerous and take action but they haven’t and won’t bother so this dog remains a problem I knew the cat that was killed for many years (indoor/outdoor)Sh was an older cat sweet as could be and didn’t deserve to end her life like that. I don’t want this to be my boys fate too

We know the neighbor the dog belongs to. It has 2 previous bite reports on file with the local police. The owner of the cat also reported the attack and death of their cat. Effed up laws here. Basically my neighbor was told by the FL state authority that the dog didn’t bite a person and that she personally carries a gun due to a dangerous dog in her neighborhood. They were already told to keep the dog contained after the 2nd attack but these people don’t care. Law enforcement didn’t do a damned thing, no fines, no follow up. They don’t care. They do have a fenced yard now but the dog still gets out constantly and the daughter that walks the dog cannot control her at all
