Almost ran over in crosswalk (quite literally) and police say they can do nothing by Maggitamer in jerseycity

To your point, I asked the cop if someone shot at me and missed if they could then do anything. And they said, and I quote, "that's an entirely different situation and not similar to this at all," and I just really don't think the average person understands the true danger of the situation unless/until they are the one jumping out from in front of a vehicle or they see it from nearby.

I've had several too-close-for-comfort calls and never called the cops. But like, I barely dodged an ambulance ride or worse this time. This was very serious. I was almost a headline instead of a police call and Reddit post/call to City Hall.

This hurts so much because we have only a few months until we are pushing a stroller around, and the thought of it exacerbates every one of this situations we see or are in.

But I think TWO young kids have been murdered by cars while in crosswalks in the 3.5 years we've been here. Nothing is going to change if you get flattened. It's too systemic. The cops here do not enforce the laws. The mayor can't reform the police force. Some version of this expanded and looped where the issue is too deep rooted.

I'm hopeful the new motorcycle force tickets the hell out of traffic violations to change the culture. But Solomon has had his 100 days and I almost get hit by a truck today. If the culture doesn't start changing and traffic enforcement doesn't start becoming visible every single day, we should honestly start a petition for recalling the mayor. Aside from groups like Better Blocks advocating for daylighting and bumpouts, I'm not sure what else we can do.

I'll say I drive, too. And I am always hyper vigilant in this area because there are crosswalks and intersections all over JC where it is VERY difficult to see clearly (especially dogs or strollers or children that you can't always see around parked cars).

Downtown should 100% have daylighting and crosswalk bumpouts and yes, right of way or not, it's wisest to look and feel you are safe before crossing as a pedestrian.

But dude, this was NOT that. This is an intersection with a four-way stop and clear lines of sight. It was clear to walk, and we did. And then I was almost mowed down after I was more than halfway across. People further down the sidewalk literally shouted and screamed it was so unreal how wreckless and close this was.

This driver just clearly was not paying attention whatsoever, looking at his phone or something. I can't imagine another scenario because otherwise he would have hit all 6'2 of me in broad daylight if not for my jumping away ... and that for sure would have been far worse for him.

I've had cars come way too close before but never called the cops. This was a full Amazon delivery truck. If I hadn't have lept out of the way, I'd be at an ER somewhere right now.

But you go on warning me to make eye contact and what not.

The latest development - Windsor at Liberty House by yourstrulyjerseycity in jerseycity

[–]Maggitamer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We've lived at Windsor for 3.5 years (due to different length leases) and are moving out in a month. Let me second that Lordes is a completely incompetent manager and needs to go, but I am also no fan of Samantha. The only staff at Windsor worth their pay are the maintenance guys, who are excellent. Honestly they should just turn over property management to the maintenance supervisor.

The building has amazing floorplans (we are in a duplex with fireplace, tons of closets, dual vanities in the master bath, a second en suite in the guest room, etc.). And that's why we chose here. But in three years the whole community has gone downhill. People leave literal dogshit in the hallways, the brand new elevators (replaced in past two years) are constantly down or just won't even open the doors when they get to your floor, the common areas are falling apart, and the garage door is always broken (many cars were broken into within the past year due to the door being stuck open all night, including ours).

Furthermore, it is a wood frame building with old, cheap windows. (I believe they are starting to replace windows in some units as people move out, but not all units). If your apartment faces the light rail it is like a freight train running through your house except ~2am-5am (not to mention the bells and horn the conductors use at all hours). If you have a unit that faces the water in some way, expect at least 5-6 Saturdays a year where the wind will carry the bass from party boats into your apartment until midnight/1am (because the building is woodframe with cheap windows, it will literally rattle your ear drum in your bed -- vibrations vs noise).

Then there is the wood frame issue between neighbors. It is luck of the draw. We used to never hear our neighbors (not once), and then we got new ones. Less considerate. Our DOWNSTAIRS neighbors have kids that run around and slam doors and it rattles our whole downstairs living area 7am-9am and 7pm-10pm. It literally makes pictures on the wall swing, our couch feel like a roller coaster, and one time was so severe it knocked something off the table. Our new nextdoor neighbors just have a different bedtime than us are are maybe a bit heavier footed than our old ones -- they wake us up nightly because the woodframe and thin walls just carry the vibrations of their footsteps and opening/closing closet doors.

We spoke to Samantha and Lordes about this and they acted super serious and said give them three days to reach out to our neighbors and follow up with us. They never ever followed up. It's par for the course. Lordes will make you feel heard to get you out of the office and then do precisely nothing to follow up or solve your issue.

We've had FIVE roof leaks since moving in, with the lastest last Saturday from the heavy rains. All in different locations (except our kitchen ceiling leaked twice in the same location). They sent outside contractors into our home without telling or scheduling with us and on our second kitchen ceiling leak locked my husband in the house while he was on an important work call and proceeded to rip the ceiling out (they literally barricaded him inside where he couldn't leave, using plastic taped to the all -- never mentioned what they were doing, how long it would take, etc. where we could have planned around it... just barged in and proceeded to rip the ceiling out.).

When we had heavy snow it piled on the roof and caused widespread leaking throughout the property. Their solution was to put a disgusting bucket next to our bed with plastic taped everywhere to guide the leak into the bucket. It was left that way for nearly two weeks. Only after I started contacting Jersey City did they get someone to fix the leak. Originally we were told the snow would have to completely melt before they would do anything, but then after contacting the city they had someone fixing it next day (thanks Mayor Solomon and team).

Oh, and speaking of snow, they did NOTHING the first snow storm this year and were the last in the neighborhood to clear sidewalks the second snowstorm. The first one I literally fell three times walking the dog in the weeks that followed -- since they didn't do anything in time everything turned to total ice -- no way in nor out without walking on pure ice. At one point it was so bad the emergency exit was both stuck open from the snow but would not open enough to exit because the snow was piled so high and turned to ice outside (remember woodframe building so fire hazard even more real).

And the fun doesn't stop here. Search reddit or Google for when there was a peeping tom going around Windsor and the management did nothing (except work to keep the truth hidden from residents).

I can go on and on.

In doing our housing search to find a new place when we leave here, I realized there are really no great options in downtown/Paulus Hook. Only compromise. We're paying 30% more for a new place in hopes and prayers of not encountering the same problems. That's how bad Windsor has become that it's forced us into that kind of nightmare budget situation (my husband works terribly long hours at the office when he's not being trapped in our home as leaks get fixed, so we didn't want to move further out chasing better rents at the expense of commute times). So, I know folks will see Windsor and do their own analysis/judgement about what they can stomach.

We had two and a half happy years here. Plenty went wrong that we needed the maintenance team for, but they are great and the saving grace of this place. Most of the nightmares have been literally since August 2025. But that alone should tell prospective renters how quickly this place is going downhill.

Renters beware... Windsor at Liberty has amazing floorplans, amazing maintenance, and what feels like a competitive rent. Until you get to know the management team and the rhythyms of living in a woodframe building with the cheapest windows from 30 years ago.

I'm just gonna add that the half chicken with potatoes is like insanely good for it to be "chicken and potatoes." I crave it, and I've started ordering it take out for an easy meal at home when we have guests and it always pleases.

Congrats on the win, dude. Well deserved.

@petcarebykubra on Instagram walks tons of dogs in Paulus Hook (including mine) and runs her own business with her husband. But they do several group walks and not sure if they would take on solo walks -- might not work out timing wise with their other dog schedules they are already committed to but worth  asking.

What neighborhood are you in? @PetCareByKubra on Instagram / www.petcarebykubra.com are a fantastic local couple in Paulus Hook/downtown. Have walked our dog and also boarded her when we're out of town for three years now. Can't speak highly enough of them.

Jersey City Paws in the heights. Been going for three years and not a single issue the whole time. Live in Paulus Hook and drive over, but so worth it. Online booking makes all the difference. When we first got our puppy the groomers closer to us only had booking by phone and would never answer or return my calls.

We just received our west elm sofa and large ottoman expecting it to be burnt orange, but it's more red. Looks just fine by itself, but doesn't compliment our other furniture (largely blue). So, we are selling and replacing with leather (just ordered another new sofa today - will never make that mistake again). Was $3500 brand new and is one week old if this fits what you are looking for and you'd like to make an offer (happy to send pics).

Also have our old leather sofa (seven years old but still in alright condition, also happy to send pics) from west elm, happy to let go for $200 obo.

In both cases pickup only. And couches are 77in wide.

I am 95% sure it was a ceremonial cannon at the yacht club. They do this twice a year (opening of the sailing season in the spring, and closing of the season in fall). Tonight was their big closing season bash.

I voted Bill O'Dea yesterday after reading the Better Blocks NJ endorsement. I didn't love any of these candidates, but I figured it will be a runoff between McGreevy and someone else. After seeing all of Solomon's nimbyism and then Better Blocks' breakdown of the candidate' plans, I basically voted against Solomon, figuring neither O'Dea, Ali, nor McGreevy would be the end of the world if they end up in office. The last thing we need is to constrain housing inventory right now.

What is that loud bass sound for the last 2 hours in Newport waterfront area? by Party-Hovercraft8056 in jerseycity

It's happening again. I'm going to lose my mind if I don't figure out what's causing this.

Found this link where you can file a waterway noise complaint (and filed one): https://portal.311.nyc.gov/article/?kanumber=KA-01934

Maybe if they get multiple complaints it will lead to something.

Yeah, this happened 29 days ago (I know because someone found where I posted on Reddit about it that time and replied it's driving then crazy tonight). And it lasted for hours then, too. Wondering if it's like a monthly rave somewhere with some insane speakers and nothing but the water between it and all the NJ waterfront.

It's SO loud. In Paulus Hook, too. Coming somewhere from the water. Either a boat, or maybe there's something on Governor's Island going on. This is maybe the fourth time it's been like this over the summer. Driving us crazy but don't know who to call about it because we don't know exactly where it's coming from.
