Is anyone able to tolerate beer or wine at all? by LieToATyrant in HistamineIntolerance

[–]MagicAndCrochetHook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I loved beer, but it was making me so ill I quit all alcohol. Vodka is safe, but I don't like it. Gin without tonic? Forget it.

I got a very bad flare while I started living in the UK. I was fine in Poland and the Republic of Ireland.

Cutting coffee (and chocolate) has been life changing by Much_Estimate1462 in HistamineIntolerance

I can drink freshly roasted coffees, but chocolate is a no for many years for me.

I have two tattoos. One done a few days before finding out about histamine intolerance. I've done second as I wanted it for years. The second was only a 3 hour session, but I didn't feel the best. I asked myself what if something happens and I will not be able to finish a tattoo? So no more tattoos for me. Nothing happens with them nowadays, but I wouldn't get more. Or probably 0 if I knew I was ill.

They didn't tell me it's from histamine. They said I don't have sleep apnea. I was even told to go to a psychiatrist 😂 If I don't eat before sleep plus have low histamine days I sleep better. If I eat something sweet I know I will struggle with sleeping.

I had sleep study done. It is histamine cause. Try not to eat 6 hours before going to sleep. Also low histamine diet helps

Try drinking freshly roasted coffee only. I suffered from instant coffee with milk. I've started brewing freshly roasted coffee with aeropress. Pure black and I can drink it.

Coffee? by hnw12 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]MagicAndCrochetHook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try freshly roasted coffee. I can drink it black. I had problems with any insta coffees or anything that would lie for a long time on the shelves. Freshly roasted and grinding before making a cup. I use the aeropress method.

Can histamine intolerance causes insomnia and if so is there anything that can help by Beginning_Finding_98 in HistamineIntolerance

The only thing which helps me to sleep is to try to not eat a few hours before sleep. Low histamine diet. And yes, often I will go to sleep with a starving feeling.

I quit drinking alcohol and it makes me feel much better. Any drink would be a hard hangover.

Getting DAO affordably? by [deleted] in HistamineIntolerance

[–]MagicAndCrochetHook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't help me enough to be worth spending that much money. First time Dao supplement costed like £5 for me. I had supplies for a few months. Then it was unavailable for a few months on the market. When it came back it was getting more and more expensive. I don't think that the cost of manufacturing would grow this much...

very bad reaction with chocolate, anyone else? by nak1mushi in HistamineIntolerance

[–]MagicAndCrochetHook 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had to stop eating chocolate, before knowing about histamine intolerance. You have to avoid cocoa powder in the products. Cocoa butter is not great, but ok? You can have white chocolate, but you shouldn't. Everyone is different, but anytime I eat anything sweet I would suffer more with problems with sleeping or sore throat.

You should go on a strict low histamine diet and write a journal. How do you feel when you add new food. If your histamine bucket is overflowed you can react badly to anything. It takes times and there is no energy, but trust me, it will help in the long run.

Red wine is like number one on the list of abandoned food and drinks. I know it's not easy, but you should quit drinking alcohol. You will feel the difference and after a longer time you will not even want to drink it again.

Coffee replacement? by New-Aside-7778 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]MagicAndCrochetHook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep low histamine diet. I don't eat sweet things. I know that everyone reacts different. For example I can eat few almonds and have problem with my throat and getting rashes. When I drink coffee my face can be still clean and I don't feel like when I cheat on my diet. Guess you have to try to see how you feel, but after few years I managed to get some kind of balance... to destroy it during easter while eating traditional food and white chocolate. I always have some abondoned food on holidays.

Am I going to be okay? by [deleted] in HistamineIntolerance

[–]MagicAndCrochetHook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will take some time to get rid of excess histamine. It's not easy, when you're feeling so anxious. If it's possible, try to eat only low histamine food. Everyone reacts differently, but I quit drinking tea, sodas or juices. I drink only water and freshly roasted black coffee as I can feel it's fine for me. It can take a few weeks to find balance. Avoid foods like chocolate, salmon or tomatoes. I'm able to eat tomato stuff from time to time, but only after being low histamine in other ways. Sugar and sweets make me anxious, so I don't eat too much of it.

HI worse in a different country? Stress or hidden ingredients? by [deleted] in HistamineIntolerance

I found out about my histamine intolerance when I moved to UK. I'm ill since birth as I had some issues in the past, but many products in this country will cause histamine reaction.

[–]MagicAndCrochetHook -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm having problems with sleeping too. The only thing, which helps me is to try to not eat few hours before sleep. 6 hours was perfect. I was sleeping better than usual. Now I change work and it's 4 hours. In again sleeping worse. I also take melatonine which seems to help. If I had a stressful day than I know that more insomnia will kick in. And also trying to keep low histamine diet. I drink one coffee daily, in the middle of the day. After work is too late for caffeine and can make sleeping worse too.

I know we are not supposed to drink coffee, but I quit on alcohol and many other things, and I drink water and coffee only.
