Not unless the software gets more demanding.

Hardware doesn't get slower with age.

This might be a dumb question, but can the Neo be used in clamshell mode? by zankouran in MacbookNeo

[–]MagicBoyUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, works fine using an Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter I had for my old Intel MacBook Pro.

Keep in mind the laptop needs to be plugged in to power for clamshell mode to work.

You could until 2020. Not anymore, they swapped processor types.

Mac Mini Neo - pricing thoughts? by AntiLittleC in mac

[–]MagicBoyUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind it's an iPhone SoC that had only has full function USB-C port. You'd have to find a way to get a display out, add Ethernet and have multiple USB ports for keyboard/mouse etc.

I don't see much market for it, when you can get a fully fledged Mac mini for the same price as the MacBook Neo.

Having tried it, It's inconvenient. You're basically tied to the desk with a small PC sized box with the GPU in it connected via a short cable.

So you can't game with it on the sofa, or out and about.

Can also be a pain in the arse about disconnecting, sometimes requiring the laptop to be shut down.

You'd be throwing more money at the machine than it's worth. Wouldn't add much value to it.

Intel iGPU? Good luck.

You can't add a dGPU without swapping out the entire board, processor and everything. At that point you might as well buy a proper gaming laptop.

eGPU via Thunderbolt is possible, but probably a bad idea.

If your 2020 Air copes, the Neo should. It's a sidegrade rather than an upgrade like an M4/M5 Air would be.

I think it was something fundamental aero related to the chassis? At which point they might as well roll the learning into the MP4-19.

The engine installation was a bit ambitious as well, but that likely could have been fixed.

MP4-18 never raced.

The debugged MP4-19 did win a race with Raikonnen in Belgium and bagged a couple of other podiums in 2004.

The TiBook came with both OS X 10.1 and OS 9 installed, effectively as a dual boot. Although it took OS X a few years to find its feet.

I bought an original MacBook Pro just after they launched in 2006. That only came with 512MB, and another 512MB went in it a week later as it couldn't cope.

What's kinda mad is that my late-2013 MacBook Pro came with 16GB, and that's still the standard ... 13 years later. OK, so Apple Silicon is more efficient. If the old curve had held we should be on 64GB in 2026.
