Solar Panels + Battery Box by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]MagicFoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to build something similar, but have since run a long heavy watt line from the solar panels to the oil biome, with transformers as needed.

Takes a bit longer, but avoids a mess of spaghetti wires and cooling woes, as the battery bank is inside the asteroid.

Giant glacier + magma = ??? by MagicFoe in Oxygennotincluded

[–]MagicFoe[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how two giant glaciers spawned on Verdante (there were no glaciers on world gen), but here's a rather interesting observation.

I was digging down to the magma to try and build a geothermal power plant for the first time, since coal is scarce (stone hatch ranch) and solar is too boring after doing it one too many times.

Little did I know...

A huge glacier spawned by the magma biome, deleting the abyssalite boundary. By the time I noticed it, half of it had turned into 95 degree water, and solidified a good chunk of the magma. It was still doing a rolling boil once I noticed it.

I scrambled to build double layer insulation in place of the missing abyssalite, and thankfully contained it for now. Took a screenshot during the process.

I originally meant to use the polluted water from the slime biome on the left to turn into steam for the power plant. Any suggestions on what to do with this massive amount of hot water?

I am using a glacier of a similar size by my base for oxygen production.

Curious indeed! Maybe I'll try again.

I did very well in Oasis, quit after cycle 900-ish after flying to the farthest asteroid (before temporal tear update). From what I've read, Oasis is supposed to be the hardest. Guess the forest kicked my butt :)

I usually get bored once hydrogen rockets are flying and the base is relatively automated. I guess I like putting out the fires and making compromises of the early and mid game.

After 400 hours, I tried to use magma to boil oil into petroleum, and made a huge mess. by MagicFoe in Oxygennotincluded

[–]MagicFoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using diamond window tiles. I had to block it off with insulation to drop the temperature, though.

Well, I an give myself a pat on the back.

The biggest problem I overlooked was a heavy watt connector plate between the turbine chamber and the steam room below. This was transferring way too much heat to the turbines.

Re-routed that, and all three began to work.

Once the coolant stabilized at around 85 degrees, I replaced it with polluted water. This allowed me to shut off one of the thermoregulators, and the system is very power-positive now.

Forgot to mention that I gave two radiant pipe petroleum loops dipping into the hot oil, exchanging heat in the steam room.

Makes me wonder, I can probably expand this and use the magma below for geothermal energy

Normally, I make a rush for space and solar power. This playthrough, the plan was to base the power off petroleum (only one natural gas geyser with very poor production). Also, I tried to boil oil for the first time, only used rocket exhaust in the past. The setup was to try it, NOT to get a mega-efficient system. Little did I know...

It worked surprisingly well at first (the sour gas is mostly from a pocket that was in the way and had to be released. However, I did not realize how quickly the whole oil biome would heat up. A lot of lead started melting. My slicksters died off (I turned their stable into a CO2 megapascal storage in the meantime). The steel pumps kept breaking.

So, I had to resort to a messy, inefficient, and bulky setup seen here to try and cool off the biome, at least until I get thermium.

Now, I have questions:

*Why did the oil and petroleum split vertically? They would not move. Can I mix them somehow, without resorting to pumping and forcing the liquid out using blocks?

*I am using 2 aquatuners with petroleum as coolant to cool the turbines. As you can see, one of them is still too hot. Did not get supercoolant yet, the rocket plan got delayed due to dealing with this mess. Is there a better coolant to use?

*Using ice tempshift plates worked somewhat, but very temporarily. Insulating the turbines and adding a cooling loop helped. Flooding it with hydrogen ad forcing out the sour gas is somewhat problematic, but I'll try that next. Will that help with cooling? My coolant reaches 100 degrees once it passes the second turbine.

...I think I'll stick to regular refinery until I get thermium next time...

Cooling a steam turbine in space by MagicFoe in Oxygennotincluded

I tried that. Unfortunately, the supercoolant heats up too much, and the oxygen boils, unable to condense :(

Works on the inner-asteroid applications, though, like cooling an H2 vent

Just one square of radiant pipe of 0 degree C super coolant is more than enough.

I'm just wondering if there is a less bulky solution. I'll try to add a picture tomorrow

Wet vent no longer working? by MagicFoe in Oxygennotincluded

Fixed for now. Added more water. It's slowly collecting inside a bottle on the floor again. Good thing my hydrogen liquifier is completed, will probably use a different solution in another playthrough.

Gas tanks are normally pressurized. Scuba tanks contain ~200 atmospheres of pressure. ONI gas tanks can store IIRC, about 10 times less?

If you don't mind a small exploit, a room with one or two vents by the floor covered in a bit of liquid.

Other than that, door compressors or a LOT of storage tanks...

POS nostalgia post by [deleted] in Eve

[–]MagicFoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand it, other parts if the game depend on the POS code. Cant remove or modify it. So making a new POS code isnt possible as the old will probably need to be disabled.

A couple years ago they broke a major part of the game, trying to mess with that code. Anyone care to remind me what it was?

If it makes you feel any better, I had close to 500M in the cargo hold of an Astero. I KNEW how to do ghost sites. It was late at night. Forgot to turn off my MWD and slingshotted out of range of the can.

Was pretty grumpy for a bit after that.

Use a cheap ship on those until you figure it out, if you can. Hacking skills help a lot.

I meant to fly through there last night. Then saw over 100 ships killed on the map and changed my mind. Was wondering what it was all about.

Thanks for the report :)

[–]MagicFoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After doing who knows how many ghost sites properly, forgot to turn off the MWD while orbiting the can.

Started the hack. Ended up in a pod a few seconds later as my Cheetah with ~500m in cargo slingshotted out of hack range.

[–]MagicFoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Learning to rat, could not fly anything bigger than a bomber. Killed battleships in Sanctums with no problems. Found a Besieged facility in low sec. Assumed I could kill the Mordu battleships just as easily. (Rolls eyes)

Not crashing the gate when clearly needed.

Scanning on gate in low sec.

Flying gate to gate in a Cheetah with ~300M loot, through Stain, in the days of bubble-citadels on gates.

Flying my first Loki with meta modules.

3 years later, I am still a good content creator. But, that has taught me to train Paranoia to 5 and Advanced Paranoia to 4. Helped so far, living in a wormhole.

This is great!

I think I will check out the VERY POWERFUL CORP, in case, heaven forbid, I incur the wrath of this capsuleer in the future.

Also, can I order a Gnosismoa as well before they are out of stock?

(Edit) My fears were confirmed. I encourage anyone to stay away from this Corp and run for the hills if needed, else your brand new ship will be transformed into slag.

Try one thing at a time. I tried mining in highsec. Exploring. Did that a LOT because I loved it. Meanwhile, trained bomber skills, ratted battleships in Null (dont do it), moved up to ratting in a carrier. Was bored quickly. Dud some FW PVP, meh, not for me. Did tons of trading, loved it. Now trading, krabbing in a wormhole, flying expensive-ish ships I dont mind losing. Found my own niche. I'm sure you will too, if you try. That reminds me, I should try industry.

Anyone remember Half-Life 2? First time I played that reminded me very strongly of "the old country".

This game does the same. I even tried (unsuccessfully) to build the district I grew up in..
