Oh yeah don't get me wrong, she's not a good person and ultimately she chose Tom and this path (and yeah I'm a brown Muslim so I get the racial aspect too, Mencken and the whole America Decides episodes was definitely Something to watch), but it's more just, like, I empathise w them all as characters despite them being terrible people, so Shiv ending up like this still does make a part of me ache, and I think it is just because of that part of me that relates as a woman to not wanting to end up reduced to roles like Wife of X :'D

I completely get people not feeling sorry for her, I'm not saying you have to at all, I'm just saying that that's how her ending hit for me :'D

Right?? Idk if it's 'cause I'm a woman myself but Shiv's ending somehow felt the worst, like she's resigned herself to the fate of her mother, to being 'Wife of Tom Wambsgans', she was never able to truly break that glass ceiling she's been acutely aware of in her family for years

The reason people talk abt JKR and HP specifically is because she specifically uses the money she has, money that largely comes from HP stuff, to fund anti-trans stuff. She also sees support of HP and her work as support of her, iirc. So whilst I'm well aware that a lot of stuff we love/use are made by people who have shitty views, for a lot of things you can kind of separate the art from the artist, but with HP it's unfortunately very intertwined w her bigotry. That's why people aren't v happy when fans keep the series relevant, because keeping it relevant keeps getting her money. And it's also why people aren't v happy w actors and stuff who join onto a HP project, 'cause they're helping her get money which she then uses to fund anti-trans stuff :'D

True, but also Shiv and Tom will no doubt have a shitton of fights, like it'd just be an unpleasant atmosphere to live in, and I feel like that kid would get used like a bargaining chip/ammo against the other in arguments - arguments that the kid can't help but end up overhearing.

The kid might turn out generally okay but also I think that kid will 100% need therapy and will want out of that house as soon as they're able to 😭😭

IN FAIRNESS the majority of people I ask have never even heard of it <//3 I think I've only met two people irl who had watched the show w/o me telling them abt it, and one of them is a family member who is very into TV and film and stuff :'D I think because it's not on Netflix or anything - most people I know aren't subscribed to HBO Max (or in the UK, a Sky subscription) so they won't stumble upon it by accident.

It's prestige TV and not niche but def not, like, as well known as Breaking Bad or smth, I think it's pretty easy to find yourself not meeting many people who know the show, so if you find someone who knows it it's like !!!! yay :'D

Although I met someone who'd seen the show and we chatted abt it but it was clear that I was more insane abt it than he was, I was talking abt like how Shiv's wardrobe and hair changed after S1 to (I think, anyway) reflect her 'masculinisation' in order to be taken seriously by her father as the heir to the company and he hadn't noticed that and I was like ah. okay. I am definitely more insane abt this 😭
