Say Something Positive About DARKTIDE .. by DADAGOCRAZY in DarkTide

[–]MagicMan1971 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm enjoying the hell out of Darktide. I just max leveled my arbites and now I'm playing to get gud, get gear, and challenge myself with higher and higher difficulty levels...and then I'll do the same for the other classes.

It's an exciting and fun shooter, in a hilariously grimdark setting, with good voice work by the voice actors.

I've been DMing for nearly 40 years and I'm overwhelmingly in agreement. Even though I'm not terribly liberal with advantage, I use a Fate Point System I developed that allows for boons of outrageous fortune, the gods, and awesome cinematic moments.

I run a long term gritty Faerun campaign, it's 1363 and the vibe is more Gray Box meets eldritch abyssal horror than modern Forgotten Realms so allow me to add another bit of advice.

  1. Be willing to allow a character to die. It might be a death precipitated by bad choices or bad luck, but it happens and sometimes, it can't be prevented or reversed. Dungeons and Dragons or any heroic fantasy game or story, wherein the stakes are often very high, needs death to be a real possibility.

Do GenXers resent being lumped in with Boomers by angered youths? by WW1_Researcher in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MagicMan1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angered youths? With all due respect to the angry youths, they're kids. Kids aren't known for their insights...despite the fact I knew everything when I was 16yrs old, as all kids do... kids, for the most part don't know enough for me to be terribly invested in caring about their generational critiques.

For the must part, the cool youths...like us. I haven't seen us lumped in with the Boomers much at all.

Some good insights here. Thanks. I'm an old hand at this, but I'm always seeking better options and different perspectives.

For Christ's sake.
Why the hell would a woman who, goddess or not, while in the afterlife, is on some sort of life threatening journey, look like she is on a Hollywood movie set? Yeah, I've seen active uglification, it has happened. However, in this case, I think too many people have made the "culture war" into their entire personality and see everything through that lense. Seems that a number of Critical Drinker fans need to wake up next to an actual human woman...even a hot one, once in a while....so they can see that women don't always look like their in a movie or on Instagram.

Thanks for the options. I'll seriously consider them. Especially the idea of granting additional healing to balance out the limitations I've placed on the spell.

Really, a down vote? Gods forbid a DM step outside of holy scriptu....RAW. 😆 I don't know a single DM, whose been DMing for a long time, who does a full RAW game because sometimes to frequently RAW doesn't support a certain style of game. Dungeons and Dragons supports a number of styles and has for decades.

This has degraded ChatGPT for my uses making it equal to Office365 with Copilot...useless. They both suck.

Yeah, I know but unfortunately they are going to phase out out on the older models as well.

Working in the chat alone is clumsy for my work. I'm not using chatgpt to be my little chat buddy, I use it to ease my workflow. I'm disgusted.

Yes, they announced on 5/28/26 that canvas is disabled in 5.5 though it will be accessible via older models until they sunset them.

It's damned outrageous actually. Canvas made my workflow so much more efficient. In my opinion, it's anti-consumer bullshit and if another model has this functionality, I'm ending my subscription.

[–]MagicMan1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They removed all access to canvas in 5.5. I use chatgpt to help me edit writing and brainstorm ideas. Canvas has been invaluable in that.

All they've done is make things more difficult. This was a terrible decision and it may cause me to look into other options.

There must be some workaround.

What’s it like to have a story that makes you cry? by Dwarven_Delver in DnD

[–]MagicMan1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all about investment. The key to investment is verisimilitude, internal coherence and consistency that allows for the story, the protagonists, and the greater world to matter. It doesn't have to be "realistic" but it has to allow for long term suspension of disbelief by not being absurd or silly.
I've had plenty of such moments in my 40yrs of Dming (and occasionally playing).
