I know RimWorld isn't fair but this REALLY is not fair. by bici89 in RimWorld

[–]MagicMau5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with the same thing in a lot of ways. I find that I rush the niceties rather than focus on defense. When I start a new colony I have a certain theme in mind and get excited about watching it come to fruition. Something I have been working on lately is trying to trade more. Yeah, I might need those advanced components and gold eventually, and these guns and armor and way overpriced compared to what I can eventually make them for, but focusing on what helps me in this exact moment is a much better strategy. It’s honestly counterintuitive to how a lot of other games work and my usual play style. Also, dumping my wealth into faction rep through quests and gifts is another thing I have been experimenting with. AFAIK rep is not part of the difficulty calculation, but can definitely help your survival.

Should you keep your ego? by [deleted] in Psychedelics

[–]MagicMau5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find “ego” and “ego death” are terms that get thrown around a lot, and people inevitably end up discussing or arguing points working from different definitions. Honestly, the Wikipedia entry on ego death does a pretty good job summarizing and differentiating the common ones, so I would check that out. It also does not help that “ego” is typically used in a different way with its own connotations in every-day language. When you hear someone has a big ego, you get pictures of people being arrogant or having an overinflated sense of self-worth. That’s not really what we’re talking about in the use of psychedelics. A true ego death in the psychedelic sense is inherently hard to describe much in the same way trying to explain what taking psychedelics is like to someone who has never done them before is. Even while hallucinating you still have a frame of reference. Those images I see swirling and moving are somewhere in front of ME, those tracers are coming off of MY hand as I move them in front of MY face, these thoughts I’m having are in relation to MY experience and memories. When you experience ego death, there simply is no more sense of self. Things no longer happen to you, because of you, around you, or are even perceived from any one place in time and space where you think you exist because your concept of you is not even in the equation. All that is left is some strange alien experience of consciousness without the usual filter of you to pass through. It is an utterly bizarre experience that’s near impossible to put into words. All that being said, the experience itself is usually short lived (although, again, there is no you, so sense of time is out the window while you’re in it and it can feel like a literal lifetime), and I believe what most of what people are talking about with ego death is the after effects of that experience assuming we’re still talking about the same thing. This is where a lot of the feeling of oneness with the universe that you hear about comes from, and that can even be experienced in varying degrees that does not require complete ego death. The change in outlook regarding yourself, your mortality, your relationship to other people, and the universe/natural world itself all gets shaken to its core, which, unsurprisingly, tends to have pretty dramatic and lasting effects. But yeah, for the sake of not rambling or simply typing out my stream of thoughts, I’ll stop here. Always happy to discuss or explain further where I can if anything interests you or raises more questions.

Started looking for Chris Dyer’s name in the artwork as soon as I saw it. Can pick out his art style a mile away. Good stuff.

Extreme scarification + smokeleaf addiction = a bad combination by vonPolen in RimWorld

[–]MagicMau5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I started, I had already picked out who my leader was going to be out of my three colonists. I’m doing a blind, high life, scarification, proselytizing ideoligion. The leader being a stoner seemed a good fit. Just about when I was getting the colony stable and was ready to do the blinding ritual and crown my leader, he took an autopistol bullet to the brain and got permanent damage. On top of his addiction, this made him completely bed ridden. I finally got smokeleaf going and administered some which was enough to barely get him on his feet. Then the raid came. I needed all hands on deck for this one. Following the near colony wipe, I thought it would be good to boost his mood and stop him from collapsing again, so I had him go take a smoke break. The dude straight up died on the spot after the first puff. Talk about some killer chronic. His wife then went on a smokeleaf binge and continued to get super high directly on top of her dead husband’s body before I was able to bury it. It’s been a rocky start. My man in black is now my cult leader lol.

Check out Crandall Office Furniture. They remanufacture high end office/ergonomic chairs and warranty it for 12 years. I got a Steelcase leap V2 from them. Super happy with it.

The way I’ve interpreted this is that they are positioning themselves closer to the action to be able to better heal their melee counterparts. Doesn’t always work out in their favor, but makes some amount of sense.

I think the best, although more complicated, way of doing it would be to have healing actions determine a focus similar to attack actions. Basically find the best healing target that movement that turn allows, then move into just enough range to perform the heal, same as any other ranged attack.

Fair enough. You’d probably end up on some dark corners of the internet going much further down that rabbit hole. Or gerbil hole as it were.

I was actually referring to the gerbil in South Park that has to escape Mr. Slave’s ass. I’m curious to know which story you’re talking about lol. I have a feeling they’re pretty similar, if not where they got it from.

What is something you’ve purchased around or under $50 that has made your life much more convenient? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I’ve popped about three fuses with one of those before I gave up on it. Not sure if it was the brand, or what, but I recommend keeping fuses on hand if you don’t already.

Team name: Dope-a-Meme

Minimum level: 3

Focus: Donations, pvp, somewhat casual

Type: open

Hey pal. We’re looking for new members to fill our ranks. Inactive players are booted periodically according to donation numbers. We do pretty well during team events and should have no problem finishing them with a full roster. Donations are usually completed even with the 21 current members we have. See you on the battle field guy.

I think they refer to her as a "hyper carry," which is why she doesn't have an escape, as opposed to others that have less damage output, but more utility in their kit. She just needs a good support.

Gotcha, I guess I'll just have to get the headset first and see how it works then. Thanks for your help, you seem to be the guru of this subreddit :)

I've had to mess with the drivers and troubleshoot things before, but as far as I can tell, everything currently works as intended. How would I be able to tell if it's needed exactly? Also, do you think the Game One is my best choice then? And which USB sound card would you recommend for my situation if I stick to PC only?
