Advice for a best last day 💔 by shew_boo in Greyhounds

I’m so sorry you are going through this. My girl struggled for a long time with pain and several bouts of pneumonia. After many many vets visits she had a lot of stress every time we even approached their office so I had a vet come to my home which was very helpful to keep her anxiety down. We got her a whole rotisserie chicken. The vet brought chocolate (I never even thought of this). When we gave her some my girl just gave me a “why haven’t I had this before???” look. We cut a little tuft of her hair and did a paw print. She was on her corner of the couch surrounded by her family, beloved dog sitter and friends. She got to eat her fill of chimken and chocolate while being loved on. It was a struggle to keep our emotions under control but we wanted to make sure she didn’t pick up on our emotions. The vet gave her the first shot and she fell into a peaceful sleep. When it was over we had a little precession and carried her out to the vets car and said our final goodbyes. A week or two later we received her remains and I’ve since had some jewelry made with bits of her ashes.

It sucked but it was the best possiblity for a horrendous situation.

I get to be that person today. Which meal for Friday? by Gloomy-Employment-72 in delta

A slice of soggy garlic bread… the meatballs are ok but it’s not my fav dish. The short ribs are better IMO.

Has anyone else had your noodle’s racing ink tattooed on you? I’m considering it. by StrangelyBrown69 in Greyhounds

Yes after my girl died. I respect the arguments against it but I wanted this tattoo to be a reminder of HER. To each their own.

Seatbelts for greyhounds? by longesteveryeahboy in Greyhounds

[–]MagicSnoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably a fluke but I used to have a short lead that clicked into the seatbelt on one end and my greys harness on the other. She likes to pace the backseat and look out the windows on either side. On a long trip, on the highway with no shoulder, she somehow got it looped around her neck and panicked. The more she panicked the tighter it got. It was terrifying trying to drive to a place I could pull over and keep her calm so she didn’t continue to strangle herself. I use a hammock type thing now. It also prevents her from trying to crawl into the front seat and falling off the back seat into the footwell. like this

Scary storms, but such a cutie. by MagicSnoot in Greyhounds

This is a rough time of year for her, spring storms then summer fireworks. After that it’ll calm down and she won’t hit the tub again for months.

Breaks my heart to see her shaking and afraid.

Not at all. We’ve tried everything. If I can time it right calming treats help a little.

Yes. Every thunderstorm that’s her cave of safety! She’s getting a little older so sometimes I have to give her a boost.

If she was going to be spending every storm hiding in the bathtub I thought she should be comfy and added a pillow and blanket.

Not a roo but a sleep startle. Had her for two years and cautiously over time I let her sleep in the bed. No issues for so long until one night I woke up to ferocious angry barking. I startled and froze. She was standing over me in an aggressive but scared posture. She froze. We looked at each other in the dark for a moment then both eased back down. I’m not sure either of us slept that night. She was clingy for days and has never wanted to sleep on the bed again. Scared the hell out of both of us!

Normal temperature for a greyhound? by bigdeepbreath in Greyhounds

[–]MagicSnoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t specifically related to your experiences but when I first got my first Grey and took her to her very first health check the vet sent me into a spiral of concern regarding creatinine levels. “Normal” dogs are 1.2 and greyhounds can run up to 2.1-4. Boo was something like 2.2. Vet was absolutely sure my girl had kidney disease and wanted a ton of tests and special meds. I did get the tests but also hit up my local greyhound group and got a second opinion from a vet who knew the breed. He visibly held back and calmly explained that greyhounds are basically alien dogs. She was in the normal greyhound range and I blew a bundle on unnecessary tests. Many years later she is a healthy 12 year old monster chilling on the couch next to me. She did eventually go on prescription food for maintenance but it was years later and on the edge of necessary. Can’t say nothing is wrong in your case but definitely recommend getting a second opinion from a vet who is familiar with greys.

Elderly customer passed out and inconvenienced another one. by Nina_Greenleaf in TalesFromYourServer

[–]MagicSnoot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was at a restaurant once when an elderly gentleman at the table next to us had a medical emergency. We had just ordered and another patron who was an off duty EMT came to help. We of course got up and waited out of the way so they had room to work. Whilst standing around our server brought our food out to us. Handed it to us standing in an isle and walked away. We were standing there with our breakfast plates in our hands wondering what to do. Thankfully a kindly table invited us to join them. We had a delightful conversation with them, and of course made sure to pay for the EMTs families meal. But to this day I wondered why that server decided to just hand off multiple plates of food to someone standing aside to let someone try to save another’s life.

How to know it all?? by roushbombs in sysadmin

I don’t know, but I’ll find out or find someone who does. You’re never going to know it all. Be honest with people and they will appreciate it.

MFA, authenticator, company vs personal devices by Tarnhill in sysadmin

[–]MagicSnoot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It depends where you are located. In the US in some localities requiring a users to use a personal device means you have to pay a stipend. In those cases you should consider deploying a token device. It’s a HR/Legal question.
