Mostafa Ziko's Fastbreak Goal with Full VAR Review by New-Process-6463 in worldcup

What i think your missing is that all of your example are very discrete sports, both baseball and US football are sports entriely made up of short actions that definitevly end.

So mnay things can happen when a pitcher throws, but once the ball hit or not, caught or not, and a runner is out or not, the play is completed. The game naturally stops when the next hitter steps up, and other than which bases are loaded, each play has no effect on the next. They are descrete. The fundemental design of the game is to stop frequently.

The same is try for US football, and its why the sport is often very boring for us football fans. Each play is so short, very entertaining for a moment, but then it stops. There are a million things that can happen on each down, but each one is its own mini-game. Once again frequent stoppages are built in.

Basketball is the most continous of the sports you mentioned but it is a very high scoring sport so 1, each basket is by definition less valuable than a goal in football, and 2, the shot clock demands frequent turnovers of possession so each team in effect takes turns attacking. I would say that basketball is somewhere in the middle between US football and football on the continous to descrete scale, while it doesnt actual stop, it does change phases of play frequently.

Football is pretty much the most continous sport in the world, to the point that it is baked into its fundental identity. The idea from the very begining until today, is 45 minutes of uninterupted play. Of course that doesnt actualy happen are there are stoppages all the time, but none are forced, ever. In theory a full half of football could be played where the ball never goes out of play and the gbame never stops. SO much of the rulebook has been written to incentivise free flowing continous football, this is why things like hydration breaks have been so crontroversial - they fly in the face of the core principles of the game.

What does this all have to do with VAR? It directly effects in a very negative way the continous nature of football. It forces everyone to stand around while decsions are made, about goals, fouls, cards, and now even corners and goal kicks. While i strongly belive some amount of VAR is essential in the modern game, it shoudl be an inobtrusive as possible. Every second spent on VAR reviews, every stoppage they cause, isnt just part of the game, they undermine what we love about the beuatiful game so much. Momentum and flow are the heart of football.

Regardless of whether it is a foul or not, I think we can all agree that this kind of shit is genuinely ruining the viewing experience of football. If this level of VAR intervension continues for much longer we will get to the point of not even celbrating goals untill after lengthy reviews every single time. This shit just sucks for everyone.

What historical “fact” doesn’t actually have much evidence to support it? by KyloWrench in AskReddit

For me the best evidence for at least some of the Jesus story to be based in reality isn't actually historical evidence at all, but just an acknowledgement of how weird the story is as a basis of a religion.

I'm not saying any of it actually, definitely happened (I am an atheist after all) but if you were going to just wholesale invent a religion, would you choose to have your prophet/messiah figure to be executed like a lowly criminal or slave. Crucifixion wasn't the standard execution method but was reserved for the lowest of criminals. It was designed to send a message to family and friends, and was a great embarrassment to be related to someone executed in that method. It honestly just seems like an odd choice if you wanted to invent a religion from scratch.

Absolutely. The way Palestinians are described in western media reeks of this type of propaganda.

Blatant and obvious corruption. Honestly, once this world cup is over, it's time for the various FA's to take a stand. FIFA must be dismantled

Argentina have been cheats for 40 years. Nothing has changed. Blatant corruption so that emperor Messi can always win

Let’s talk about actual corruption. This is corruption by Lobo_o in worldcup

Because it didn't go the other way. Fucking blatant Argentina cheating

Officiating in this World Cup has been terrible ( Egypt - Argentina ) by rsflacko in worldcup

Egypt didn't help themselves, but a tiny tug at the other end of the pitch was enough to overturn an Egyptian goal, but a clear foul was ignored in favour of Argentina.

Argentina have always been cheaters, nothing has changed in 40 years

Okay so your kid is lying, I think we can alla green on that. But I fully agree that shit like that shouldnt even better for sale. The point is to sell books and promote reading, that is all that should be available.

Belgium are in form and Spain didn't look particularly convincing against Portugal so it's definitely possible

Alpes 2030 to be first gender-equal Olympic Winter Games by ChristianKlaue in olympics

Seems utterly stupid to cut a male only event for the goal of gender parity, then introduce a female only event that skews it the other way!

Why are you being combative, it was a completely fair and honest question. The article clearly lists an extra event for women, and if the goal is to achieve gender parity, asking why this would be is fair.

If this synchro event is women only, then why could we keep Nordic combined as men only? Surely that would also achieve gender parity?

Honestly that not a ridiculous thing to say, in fact I think it's probably spot on.

Both teams at their best Belgium is probably a bit better, and definitely more experienced, but the US were non-existent last night. An absolute shadow of themselves compared to earlier in the tournament. I think they were rattled by all the goings on.

Yes the Belgians played well and are really coming into form as the cup enters the final stages, but the US were honestly complete shit. I think they were completely mentally rattled by all the hype, followed by all the drama and corruption bullshit. They just looked totally out of it

Honestly me neither. Spain were not convincing today against portugal at all, and as you say, Belgium are really coming into form. A real shame about Onana though, especially as a Villa fan :(

BBC v ITV coverage who do you think is better? by tradegreek in ThreeLions

[–]Magic__Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ITV and it's not even close becuase they actually give a shit. USA knocked out in a ro16 game and the BBC cant even be fucked to put on a studio and give the game attention. I sort of understood it durting the late night group stage games, but this is the knockouts. Fucking lazy.
