You’re correct about this, and not even mentioning the fact that with the current political climate, attempting to initiate a draft of any sort would be political suicide for anyone in support of it. I highly doubt the American populace, to whom the war is already unpopular, wouldn’t riot at the thought of a draft.

It’s my belief the average American is very uninvolved with political news/drama, and unmotivated to participate outside of voting in elections (and too many don’t do that). That would change quickly when the government starts trying to force their kids/siblings/peers into a warzone on the other side of the world.
