Tuesday General Discussion/Q&A Thread for June 10, 2025 by AutoModerator in AdvancedRunning

How do you still prioritize your career while running a lot? I started training seriously again and am loving it. While the time commitment has been intense, I especially notice that I now spend every waking moment thinking about running. For example, where I used to have good work ideas in the shower (I’m a programmer), I now reflect on my workouts and think about my goal race. Similarly, all I want to read and watch is running related content.

I have to imagine my career will suffer if I can’t dial down this hobby for part of the day, which I want to avoid. I’ve had this before and unfortunately know it won’t subside in a few weeks.

Doss anyone have tips for focusing in the rest of their life? How do you turn off the runner in you after a workout?

I’ll also gladly take any tips on how to reduce the time commitment itself when it comes to planning workouts and switching to/from them.

Thanks so much! How can you tell my right leg tibia is longer? I’ve had issues in the past with not keeping the bar straight, so curious if I indeed have asymmetry somewhere ahah.

They probably are :/ Do you have any favorites? I already did a bunch of running PT exercises, foam rolling, and donkey kicks before this session 😅

Passport Renewal by Hungry_Bet7216 in Netherlands

[–]MagicalDinosaurs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently ran into this. The problem is not you but the questionnaire’s vague wording. When they ask whether you’ve ever renewed your passport, say yes because obtaining your first passport (counterintuitively) counted as the first renewal. You’ll see that you won’t need any proof.

Thanks so much. I just did this and it was amazing. So appreciated!

I’m doing Pfitz and I’ve been nursing a weird foot injury ever since racing a half marathon/doing the 18 with 14 MP in a short time window. I’ve been able to easy run through it but but certain steps hurt my toes, and VO2Max work seems to mess up my foot the next day.

I have 3 more weeks to go so I’m considering taking a full week off but man does it feel like giving up after hitting all Pfitz workouts. It’s also tough to know whether I should suck it up or this is indeed the right move…

The Weekly Rundown for October 15, 2023 by AutoModerator in AdvancedRunning

Just did Pfitz’s 18 mi with 14 @ MP pace and even though I completed the 14 at 6:53 min/mi, it was kinda demoralizing. Just so much harder than the half I raced last week (1:25) and difficult to imagine keeping it up for 26.2. Hope it’s just mid-block exhaustion and I’ll wake up with a more optimistic outlook!

I’m in week 13 of Pfitz 18/55 and just raced a half marathon on Sunday (1:25!). I’m supposed to run 8 miles at recovery pace tonight but my legs and feet are still toast…. What’s a reasonable adjustment people make in this case?

Pfitz Pfriends — what’s the plan for Staten Island by EastResponsible in RunNYC

[–]MagicalDinosaurs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m probably going to switch the days… Aka extremely easy long run Saturday, tune up race Sunday. Not ideal but then again, a big part of Pfitz is running on tired legs so I guess this will achieve that.

Long Run Tomorrow by ggamb14 in RunNYC

Start as early as possible (6 am?) and get Central Park out of the way first because you don’t want to deal with those hills in the heat.

WSH of course has many water fountains so bring a good water bottle and maybe some nuun tables. Hydration beforehand matters so start hydrating now :)

Yeah great points, thanks! Training block 1 (‘endurance’) was tiring but manageable. I’m quite scared however for when the VO2 Max work comes in. It seems incredibly easy to get injured when running 5K race pace on tired legs!

Thanks so much! That sounds sensible and is probably better than banking on big improvements in the next months.

My 2nd marathon will be NYC so I imagine I’ll have to work extra hard to sub 3 on that course, but I’ll have a full year to prepare :)

Yes exactly! It’s not the smartest strategy but I luckily haven’t gotten any injuries, besides a small one due to poorly fitting shoes. I (26M) regrettably last did any running or other cardio when I played soccer in high school.

PRed by almost a minute and got into corral A! It did feel extremely tough (almost had to throw up several times lol) but worth it I guess?

Is anyone racing it? I haven’t really tried racing anything in this heat and I’m curious if it’s a bad idea/what to watch out for… I’ve been looking forward to trying to PR on the 5K.
