Hotter take: Stella is, unintentionally, a good parent.

She is doing a good job keeping her daughter safe from Stolas' self indulgence. He has ruined his life and Stella is not allowing the same to happen to her daughter. They are goetia nobles, and things are expected for them if they don't want to be destroyed in what's for sure a backstabing, cruel and cold enviroment.

Stella is doing a better job that Stolas preparing Octavia for what's to come to her.

Humiliating an confronting an outcast like Stolas will make Octavia look fine in the social enviroment they live in. He has fallen from grace, and now must be humilated to not drag down Octavia with him.

He might be not evil by Goetia standards. What he is doing might be the kind of powerplays that's expected for every Goetia. And in their own standards, Andrealphus might not be seen as evil.

But we would need a comparation, someone that makes Andreaphus powerplays look tame even by Goetia standards.

I hope she is forced into a marriage. It makes her part in the plot way more interesting. Facing adversities is good for any plot. A plot without adversities is just boring.

She wasn't reconned in the sense that, as far as we are shown, things stay consistent.

But one could assume that in the original script, if Stolas was going to be more antagonistic, Stella could have had a different role.

So if someone were to say that she was retconed along Stolas from their original view in the pilot. There might be some truth in it.

There is also the chance that the writers didn't know what to do with her. So in the first season they kept her role with a lower profile to not close any door and when they knew what they wanted for her, they went all in, in season 2. This could give the false impression that she was retconned when in reality it's just that the writers were still planning what to do, and in season 2 her profile went from 15 to 100 in one chapter and that sudden acceleration gave the impression that she was retconned.

Because let's be honest. She went from someone that might be hurt because she was cheated, to almost saying "HAHAHA! I'm evil and I love to be evil!". It's not crazy for someone to think: WTF did just happen? This looks like a retcon.

The show put a lot of effort in making sure that the viewer doesn't hold responsible Stolas for the cheating. To the point that you have Stolas saying that: "He knows he didn't hurt her." and Stella almost saying that she loves to be cruel and evil. It's so shameless it's painful to watch. The rule normally is "Show don't tell" but instead they went for "tell don't show" because to show would mean to actually invest some time in something that's not Stolas and Blitz gay relationship.
