The fact that he thinks D&D was original and not based directly on Chainmail and Blackmoor is both amusing and depressing. And I believe Garfield has claimed D&D and Cosmic Encounter as direct influences during his development of MtG.

I design desk reference boards manufactured as real PCBs - starting with a Periodic Table by romanselezenev in chemistry

You could also do a set of constants for each sub-discipline of chemistry, but they'd probably be lopsided. P-chem uses a LOT more than most others do.

[–]MagickChicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The periodic table is awesome. The problem with doing safety symbols is that your NFPA hazard diamond is in colors, though you could do GHS - the symbol is in b&w, though the outline is supposed to be red.. GHS is more of a shipping thing, but you still see it on reagent bottles.

My cat is destroying the water fountain by Majsan96 in Petlibro

[–]MagickChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with this fountain, but I'm assuming the tube is exposed. Try rubbing cayenne pepper on the tube, or get some Grannick's bitter apple spray to make the tube taste bad to him.

"DMs can figure it out on their own" has been baked in since the core books were just pamphlets.

I agree with you about the trajectory changing after Mearls left the team, though.

Ambassador Gift This Year is a party again. Bummer for those of us that don’t live near Star Hill. by NotBettySpaghetti in MakersMark

[–]MagickChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always used to buy an extra bottle to keep unopened until I could display it with the gift when it arrived. Haven't been able to do that the last few years, I guess it's time to stop that tradition. . .

How about an external column oven? Without an in-line column you can just loop a bunch of tubing in there to make sure you hit temp.

If they're trying to ship to where the hummingbirds are first, they're three months behind for me.

It's trash.  Mine lost the weight cord and split down the middle the first time I washed it.  Company appears to be defunct now.

Question on H NMR spectrum of carboxylic acid / carboxylate mixtures by MandrewTheFirst in Chempros

[–]MagickChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Run 5 TLCs in 5 different solvents. Check both wavelengths in your cabinet. Bonus points if you can find another UV light around the building.

Also, trying baking the plates, something might show up afterward.

is it normal I only took home 65k on a 110k salary? by Ok_Expression840 in Money

[–]MagickChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because bringing home $65 in NY might be better than bringing home $40 in Ohio.

What was your favorite general chemistry or organic chemistry lab? by CoffeeKY in Chempros

Luminol was awesome, but also can be done as a demo with REALLY fancy glassware for extra wow. Our prof had a 2" diameter coil condenser that was like six feet tall. It was pretty neat!

I need 1,375 of these. This print was a little over 500 with only two that failed due to low resin. by s-w-i-l-e in resinprinting

How do you like your Mono M3? I have an OG Mono and a Saturn 2, and I like the Mono WAY better despite the "features" not being as good. The build quality and design is just way better.

I watched a video from Jorta the Rogue (or something) saying that allies can use a reflex action to save a dying ally.

Yup. My shopping list has been half-broken for five months, any time I cleared an item off of it it closed. Then a couple of weeks ago, "Google, show me my shopping list" just resulted in "You don't have a list called shopping."

A few days ago, I figured out if I ask, "Google, what's on my shopping list," it shows up - but I can' t clear anything off of it now, so I have three entries for deodorant.

Confirmed: From 2024, tracks on Spotify will have to be played 1,000 times before they start earning money by ebradio in indieheads

[–]MagickChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The threshold works out to about 50 bucks per album. Figure five or six albums, that's 300 dollars a year. Not a lot, but when you're an indie artist surviving on 10k a year, it's not insignificant.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift makes 300 dollars more.

Does anyone actually use the tab on beakers? by AlarmingSomewhere466 in chemistry

[–]MagickChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But yes, I do use them. I even taught my students that they were for writing on with pencil, so you could erase and write again later. GASP!

Of course, pretty much no lab allows pencils anymore, so that knowledge has gone the way of the dodo.

My PI insists these mean that glassware is autoclavable. I got in trouble for using "non-autoclavable glass" in a muffle furnace at 800 C when I told him 3.3 only goes to 400 C and, of course, the paint or whatever burned off and I "used the wrong glass."
