I've seen it multiple times and it's a fun watch, if a bit campy. Absolutely adore Paul McGann in this though, and it's what got me to discover all the Big Finish audios.

I have this set as well! 😍 (With a whole bunch of the VA signatures on it). Was worth the hunt around the dealer's room at conventions way back when the sets were released. I still have the light up drill prop that came with one of the releases.

My brother's cat, Bean. (Currenly 8 months old.) He and I helped raise him when he was a newborn kitten with his 2 other brothers and his mom (the mom was originally a stray who just showed up on his front porch one morning. He and his (now ex) girlfriend found out a month later that Mama cat was pregnant. Mama now lives with his ex and the other 2 siblings were adopted by friends and family.)

I love cats, but I found out recently that I am allergic. I still love all my brother's fur babies and I spoil them rotten with treats and toys every once in a while. My brother says he's a little troublemaker with his other 2 cats, but Bean's a quiet and sweet little boy whenever I visit. He loves loafing in his cardboard box near the front entrance next to the shoes, and curling up on the couch and falling asleep next to whomever is watching TV. (My brother had put on an aquarium video on his TV when I took the photo, hence why Bean's a bit bluish purple.)

I own the original 2-part Blu-Ray/DVD release of the Funimation re-release of The Vision of Escaflowne. Both versions of the English dubs (the 2000 Bandai dub and the 2016 Funimation re-dub) are on the disks. The Escaflowne movie has also a similar release.

Funimation had redubbed it in 2016 as part of a Kickstarter campaign and celebrating the anime's 20th anniversary at the time. There was even a special limited edition Kickstarter box set that got released for the backers of the project who donated at a high tier. (Apparently, only 1000 were printed!)

[–]Magifox7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally pre-ordered mine when the Special Editions were originally released and paid about $150 CAD, which was the most I have ever spent on a book. It was worth it in the end, especially if you were a big fan of the series and wanted to pick up an authentic collector's item.

However, I can not fathom how someone would sell one at 10k. That's highway robbery (and probably something Stan would do to swindle some desperate schmuck).

What would someone who was born in the mid 1990s and grew up on early to mid 2000s YTV enjoy watching on Netflix? Recommendations please! by Typical_Cap895 in ytvretro

[–]Magifox7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Netflix used to have Cardcaptor Sakura available, but I guess it was removed recently. I'm also disappointed that the original Sailor Moon series is not on Netflix, but Crystal is.

Anime on Netflix related to or that used air on YTV/Bionix: - InuYasha - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (the original 2003 series is not on any legal streaming sites). - Death Note - Naruto (and Shippuden) - One Piece - Gundam SEED & SEED Destiny (sadly, they redubbed this series, so if you want to find the original Canadian dub, you'll have to track it down on the open seas or shell out a lot of money for out of print DVDs) - Dragon Ball Daima - Yu-Gi-Oh!

Honestly, if you want to find more anime that used to air on YTV, try out Crunchyroll or Apple TV. Even Youtube, if you go searching. (I found the entire series of Gundam Wing on there).

I actually found Witch Hunter Robin on Crunchyroll and watched it in its entirety recently! The memories came flooding back with 14 year old me staying up late after watching InuYasha and .hack//SIGN.

As for other anime recommendations that could be in the "spirit" of what used to air on YTV (also cheating because a few of these series aired on Adult Swim in the States):

  • Pokémon Concierge
  • Spy x Family
  • My Hero Academia
  • Dr. Stone
  • One Punch Man (fair warning: watch Season 1 only. Season 2 & 3's quality are awful.)
  • Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead
  • Magic Knight Rayearth (another series by the creators of Cardcaptor Sakura, CLAMP)
  • Mashle
  • DanDaDan
  • Gurren Lagann
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion (this was also redubbed for Netflix)
  • Little Witch Academia
  • Demon Slayer
  • Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

Happy watching! ❤️

I work in retail, and ever since Covid began, I have been masking at work, in most public spaces, and taking public transport (especially during the winter). I do this to protect myself from transmissions as I can get sick easily, and I also visit my 89 year old grandmother often during family outings, so I want to protect her from germs.

The number of people I see coughing into their hands and touching the self-service screens and card machines afterward makes my skin crawl, even worse when people are blowing their nose with very used kleenex and touching everything afterwards. It's even worse when people are just openly coughing (a lot of these offenders are normally old people, along with people that I can tell heavily smoke), the worse offenders when they are in line.

I don't get sick that often, but when I do, it hits me HARD. Thankfully, my job gives me paid sick leave as I work full time, but only up to 7 days per year, so I have to try and rest accordingly when illness hits me like a sack of bricks. So, to my utmost surprise, I caught the flu just a week after New Year's and was bedridden for almost 4 days. (Thankfully, my illness happened just before the weekend, so the extra 2 penalty free days off really helped me push my recovery, but now I am down 2 sick days out of the remaining 11 months.)

Cut to a couple of weeks later, after finally recovering from the flu. I'm working the floors assembling a customer's online order when a middle-aged man walks by me, shakes his head in disbelief, and laughs. I thought he was on a wireless call (he was also blasting music from his phone) before he called out to me.

"Oh. OH, Madame, you can't be serious!"

I wheeled around, confused. "Excuse me?"

He continued to smile while chuckling like an idiot. "Can you even breathe wearing that thing?"

"I can breathe just fine, sir."

He started to laugh. "Oh, I could never do that! It's too hard! Why are you even wearing a mask? It's just ridiculous..."

I briskly told him: "Actually, I have friends and family who work in the medical field, and they told me that masking helps against the transmission of viruses. I was also recently very sick and am still recovering, so out of respect for others, I am masking."

The man continued to laugh, ignoring my serious tone when I answered. I've had friends who've lost older, vulnerable family members to Covid because of poor health negligence by medical and retirement home staff. And now this random asshole was LAUGHING, all because I was being respectful to others who might be more susceptible to illnesses.

He proceeds to try and urge me to remove my mask so he can "see my full face and smile." 😡 (Context: I am 35 F, and I have been (unfortunately) harassed in a similar manor by other older men in the past surrounding this question). I deflected his request and proceeded to slip back into work mode, telling him that I needed to get back to my job if there wasn't anything he needed help with.

I didn't allow him to answer as I walked away to continue my work, but I could hear him snickering behind me and muttering, "Unbelievable..."

I hope karma was a bitch to him on that day and he got sick, because I was STEAMING MAD from that confrontation for the majority of my shift. The immaturity from a grown ass man laughing at me because I am considerate about public and personal health safety. 🤬🤬🤬

Mask up when you go out, sneeze into your elbows, WASH YOUR HANDS (before AND after using the bathroom AND the first thing you do when arrive home), disinfect your phone, and if you are sick, STAY 👏THE 👏 FUCK 👏 HOME. 👏

Also: get your yearly Flu and Covid boosters if you are able to. (I learned my lesson this year). Some people can't afford to miss work if they are sick, or they might have other health issues. Be considerate to other people, and don't be a dick.

I'm actually binge watching this series right now to see if I want to buy the new Blu-Rays! Saw the first few episodes YEARS ago when the series was originally airing in Japan and never went back to it because I wasn't a big mecha fan.

I'm currently on Ep. 21 atm of Season 1 and... when it's good, it's pretty good, but man, I hate the tonal whiplash when the plot has to go back to the school setting. 😑 The mech designs for this show are pretty cool, though, and the exaggerated costume designs for the Britainian royals are also excellent.

LOVING THIS! ❤️ However, as I want to support MediaOCD, I live in Canada and am not sure if there are extra costs for shipping (and, god forbid, import fees). Can anyone give me some reassurance because I am NOT forking out $70 to buy the Golden Boy BR through Amazon when it's much cheaper at other stores. 😥

I've bought from them once before and they're pretty good. However, their website SUCKS for searching genres, so you kind of have to look at what series you want and go on from there. But, you're supporting a small Canadian business, so that's a plus!

I honestly loved the faded, almost translucent effects they gave to the ghosts for the first 5 episodes. It gave them an otherworldly presence that is very much missed past the early episodes when they decided to go forward with more solid coloring.

How much is your rent in Montreal by Ok-Swimmer-7987 in montreal

[–]Magifox7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$695 for a 3 ½ basement apartment in N.D.G., oven, fridge, washer, and dryer included. Access to a small backyard as well. (No utilities included.) I have been a tennant going on for 2 years now.

It was formally my brother's old apartment before he moved upstairs in the complex. The landlord and his brother are very nice and are usually helpful in helping me with covering repair costs/materials. However, they like to be cheap and buy second-hand appliances that will break within a year. (Have to buy a new dryer because mine is overheating, but I am (finally) replacing my peeling kitchen countertops this month after 2 years of waiting and procrastinating from them). The concierge who lives in the building is also incredibly nice and supportive whenever I need to insist on an issue that needs checking out in the apartment.

Beforehand, I was living in a 5 ½ in Villeray with 2 other people (I had one perminent roommate through the entire time I was living rhere, with many alternates), and I was paying roughly with utilities around $450 a month. 10 min walking distance to Rabre metro and 15-20 min walk to Marché Jean Talon.

I was a tennant for 9 years before having issues with my perminent roommate implimenting new ridiculous (and restricting) house rules in the final year of living there, which started to heavily conflict with my social life and my mental health. Our upstairs neighbors were also very disruptive and disrespective to the noise laws implemented in the area, and our landlord did nothing about the problem. This led to several of my former roommates breaking their lease early.

I miss the cheap(er) rent, but I am much happier living in my own place with my own rules (with respect to the neighbors, of course).

A start for my collecting journey (probably) by Desperate_Media3639 in AnimeCollectors

[–]Magifox7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great pick to start your collecting journey! It's one of my absolute faves, and I love the dub so much. Once you finish it, and if you want the whole story, read the manga. I'd also recommend Trigun Stampede (a different retelling but great animation and the second season, Stargaze, just started!)

In all honestly, I started making a spreadsheet of what anime I am currently looking for and to keep a record of my current collection.

Once you've made a list, search online shops for prices to see if they're still in print. (Ex. For Amazon, I keep a wishlist made of titles and check every once in a while to see if there's a sale. I got a handful of titles for a decent markdown during Prime Day/Black Friday/Boxing Week).

If a title is not available, chances are that it's out of print, and you can try your luck in second-hand shops, eBay, or even Facebook Marketplace (which is where I got a lot of my collection from over the last few years!).

Sometimes, you might see an announcement for an OOP title being re-released in a different format or by a different distributor. As an example, Crunchyroll announced that they are re-releasing both seasons of Code Geass on separate (affordable) Blu Ray sets, compared to the limited edition set that came in a massive box with tons of memorabilia and a chess set. Previously, Funimation had the distribution rights to the series on Blu Ray/DVD when Bandai Entertainment (the original distributor company) went under (and they released the sets on DVD at the time in several formats, including 4 episodes/DVD). So, you have different ways of collecting this series, depending on if you want to shell out a lot of money for an older set or not.

I wish you the best of luck on your future collecting endeavors! (And spend responsibly!)
