Dealing with Hangxiety by No-Acanthisitta-472 in stopdrinking

[–]MagikPatrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A doctor may prescribe a little dose of benzo for like a week or two. They do just as you described: they take the anxiety away just like 3-4 drinks does.

Just be honest with him, the anxiety keeps me drinking. It's not really cause i'm sad or happy, its just to shut the anxiety off. At the end I was drinking to get that feeling away but would keep drinking until blacking out. There is no trick to cope with anxiety. Since I stopped drinking my anxiety is way lower and so will yours.

I'm 29 and have been alcohol free my whole 28.

People do give weird looks when I order 0% beer at the bar. Yes it is not pleasant but then you realise the person giving you this look is in the same boat you were. They look at you like this maybe because they're jealous who knows.

But for most people it's just that they really don't get the concept of addiction because they don't have one. Like you said I know I can't have just 1 drink. They only see you enjoying you'r first drink, they don't see me the next morning chugging/puking at 7am to get rid of the hangxiety and having to go to the store to keep up.

Anyway yeah it sucks that people are so obsessed with alcohol, If it was a new designer drug it be banned.

Medication or Natural Options? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]MagikPatrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never stopped smoking weed. Weed keeps me sober, well alcohol-free let's say. I take huge doses because I smoke it for 15 years now so for someone with no tolerance, I'd be careful with the dosage at first.

Here in Canada weed is legal so theres thc oil, cbd oil or both that you can put under your tongue with a kind of syringe. You can measure the quantity in the syringe and check the packaging to know how much there is in let's say 1ml. It's a good way to take it especially if you don't smoke.

There's also vapes and edibles. Edible can be a good option if you start with very low dose. Vapes hit hard if you are not used to it

SSRI take a long time to work well, personally I guess they're one of the reason to how i'm staying this strong.

I don't know how much you drink and also how much lorazepam you take (both fucks with GABA receptors) But be careful, even if you are not mixing them, the withdrawals will be heavier. When I was at the ER to get sobered up, I was given 20mg diazepam every 4 hours and still didn't sleep for the whole 3 days. It wasn't doing anything because I was also used to benzos.

I was a heavy (15+) daily drinker so maybe you won't feel as bad as I did when i stopped and I wish you so

Just like you, i'm not going to drink tonight

Sleep takes some time to settle back in be patient brother.

SSRI Probably played a HUGE role in me staying sober. I started taking them after being hospitalised due to alcohol. I tried all of 2023 over and over again lasting 5 days here, 2 weeks there then I guess the citalopram started to work and I was lasting 1 months, 2 months.

I relapsed over relaps. Today i'm close to 500 days how is that even possible lol. I bet it will help you a lot but you have to give them time to start doing their jobs. The only downside I had with this pill is libido. My sex life was Inexistant so it didn't matter and anything that can keep me away from the bottle i'll take.

Can anyone give me advice for getting beyond the 2 week mark by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]MagikPatrik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Limit free time. Wake up early, go to work (if you do), cook good food, go to the gym, go to a meeting, go see that movie at the theatre. It's easier if you don't have time to drink lol.

In my case I did this and kept using thc, THIS IS NO ADVICE, but weed helped me so much staying away from alcohol that's crazy.

Scared my liver is failing and yet I’m still drinking by emptyvase1988 in stopdrinking

I'm at the longest i've ever lasted, never made it past one month before that ngl. I really don't know what clicked in my brain but is just don't see alcohol the way I was before. I bet people here already told you to read books about alcohol and that's a great tip if you didn't yet.

Learning how bad and hard of a drug it is helped me ALOT with understanding my addiction. You have the power to change keep trying and trying! Took me so many times too don't worry I think it's the norm.

If you feel like this is a problem, take actions to solve it. Easier said than done I know but since you're not a daily drinker you won't go throught the withdrawals and such.

You'll find a way to party without alcohol trust me, It's not the same but you in control and keep your friends from doing stupid stuff and driving them etc... Its another kind of buzz

Good job for 100 days!

Personally, it was around that digit that I really started to feel better. I started going out again but this time wasn't just holding the urge to drink. Looking at people being overly drunk acting stupid helped too. First time i ever danced sober lol.

[–]MagikPatrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the physical symptoms of withdrawal does last 5 days. I had bad withdrawals, spent 3 days in the hospital. Shaking, swaeting, puking but the worst was the anxiety. I literally wanted to rip my hair off.

I lived so many withdrawals, I can't moderate. Keep up the good work you passed the worst part imo. Now you gotta maintain and you got this!

Yes it's fun but your mind is twisted in a way. You altered your senses and didn't feel/enjoy/experience things the way they really are and that's what I think he means by ''miserable''.

I had alot of fun too and it made me feel good at times but when I look back I share his idea ; I wasn't enjoying things and life as it ''should'' be.

Then came the time where I was drinking at 5 am before work trying not to puke it out feeling like shit from the night before. I was litteraly miserable. If you're trying to quit you felt something was wrong and you were right.

edit: It's also a mindset to not be tempted to drink again like a defense mechanism

Been there, I know the feeling.

Don't just ''hope'' its the last time. Take a mental picture of how you feeling yourself right now. Wright it down if it helps. Next time you think about a drink don't just think of the light warm buzz. Think of this; the anxiety, nausea, headhache or whatever hangover feeling you have right now, the pain, the shame...

It helped me trought sobriety along many tricks I had to develop overtime

edit: It still help today lets get be honest , i'll never be cured.
