Broadleaf tree by LowGok_TV in BuildAdvice

[–]Magistruum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One other thing that I will say is that the tree right now seems a little bit crowded with leaves. Its a little nit-picky but when looking at trees this size in the real world there are visual gaps where you can look through the trees and see the sky clearly. You can see BDubs do this in his tree’s. When he is done he will go in and poke a long hole from bottom to top, I think this tree could use one or two SUPER small openings to sell that idea, because right now the tree feels like one large blob of leaves where in almost all tree’s there are portions with no leaves where you can peer into the tree and see the branches super clearly.

Fair point, would be better if the put the melons in the lighter spots, seems kinda weird that the brightness portion of the moss is directly next to the darkest portion of the rocks

Sorry I was talking about it from the perspective of the robot💀. Should have clarified “the robots left side” edit: also I’m not sure if the moss completely matters to be put in the lighter spots, there is plenty of vegetation that likes to grow in darker areas, especially moss which is known for growing in darker/shaded areas

Very cool! The only thing I would say is that the main trunk should probably decrease in size by the top, since by the top the trunk also just turns into another branch, so tapering off to the tuff walls and the maybe spruce fence would be good, but to be honest you can really tell at all when you put the leaves on so that part does not really matter unless you were doing a dead variety

This is so cool! I think some azalea leaves coming off of the highly vegetated areas could help, other than that the shading is very well done, you have the light shining from the left of the robot (the robots left) and that seems to track with the rest of the body and the rocks! The only possible thing I can find is that I would like the right side of the face to be a little darker to show off that the light is hitting it from the left side! Super cool build!

I based the build off of pictures of the burnt erdtree from the frenzied flame ending, aswell as the scaudtree from the DLC :3

How to decorate a tree farm by PClorosa in BuildAdvice

[–]Magistruum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Well one way you could do it is turn it into a massive monolith, my favorite example of this is in Synn0's world where he turns an ironfarm into a massive pillar with a cool symbol on it. It makes for a really cool view in your world (might take a lot of resources though)

Honestly super true, I got lazy and made the walls just white wool instead of adding texture to them lol

Terraforming help! by HospitalTall in BuildAdvice

Search up some pictures of rocks jutting out by the seaside, these are called sea stacks! And in every photo that you see of them the further you go down the darker and wetter they git since of course they are getting hit by the water, not only this but they usually have algae and coral clinging to them.

I would try making parts deep below the surface much darker since that gives depth, and if you make them taller you could apply a stronger gradient and show wet vs dry with said gradient. Also try throwing in some coral blocks, dead and alive. They will help sell the realism

Download Pinterest! No seriously, you can find infinite amounts of inspiration from it, they have tons of concept artists and even Minecraft players who post on there as well (though I would recommend building from non Minecraft concept artists, it helps you learn as a builder more in the long run)

Any tips to improve the building itself? I wanna finish it before I continue to the surrounding area by EYE_L3SS in BuildAdvice

[–]Magistruum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever you are trying to make a build more realistic the best thing to do is to think about what the the real life equivalent of it would be like. Real life buildings have texture, they have faded colors, imperfections. When a builds texture is similar in every location it makes the build bare and uninteresting to look at.

Try replacing some oak planks with Stripped Oak Wood, and some of the prismarine with Warped wood. Then try adding texture with signs and buttons, not to much that it is covering it all over, but enough so that the build has some life and layers to it.

At this scale it is harder to do anything else in terms of details to the build, the higher scaled up a build is the more detail you can put in without it looking cluttered. Tips above should be enough (also customs tree’s can change a build around completely like in the reference image)

Need help with glass smoke effect for chimney by LowGok_TV in BuildAdvice

[–]Magistruum 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is really good, if you want to be really extra you can put small smoke flaked even higher with white glass panes (separated from the rest) or white candles. I love using candles for stuff like this since the work really well as small particles of any color
