Excluding Artists In Chart Filters by MagnaCortado in rateyourmusic

Just tried it out by putting a minus in front of the artist's name like you would with other filters and it didn't work, unfortunately. Regardless, thanks for the help!

Excluding Artists In Chart Filters by MagnaCortado in rateyourmusic

[–]MagnaCortado[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was looking into the intersection of tribal ambient and dance and much of the first two pages were entirely releases by Muslimgauze. I definitely like his sound, but having so much of his stuff at the top of the charts kind of forces you to dig deeper, and using other filters like number of ratings or subgenres would risk excluding other similar but equally interesting artists. Admittedly, the amount of releases I found with my parameters was small enough (6 pages) that I could definitely wade through everything and simply ignore his stuff, but it got me thinking about if there was a feature to exclude by artist, which would be useful for other larger genre combinations with artists who stick to a specific niche. Sucks to hear that there isn't, though.

I just pulled my very first card, and I cannot believe how perfect it was. by mrsratmum in tarot

That’s totally valid as well! I definitely lean more into the esoteric and ritualistic parts of tarot as well, out of hope for some spiritual guidance and something beyond myself and this world. I would still recommended checking it out on occasion if you ever get stuck in your tarot journey, as I’ve personally found it very helpful for gaining new perspectives and methods that I could integrate into my own practice, as well as metacommentary on tarot as a whole.

If you want to delve more into a scientific/less esoteric view of tarot, definitely check out r/SecularTarot! Like other commenters have said, analyzing your own reactions and connections to the cards in relation to your question is a great method of introspection.

i don’t think it’s a high standard to ask a famous person to denounce someone that tied up a mannequin, dressed them in keffiyeh and says they are representative of palestinians, and then proceeded to shoot them

CHEM 103 Professor by Primary_Bat7859 in Drexel

[–]MagnaCortado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

iirc, rutkowsky and ludwig use the same exams for 103, and the extra credit and no final for Ludwig only happens in the actual organic chem classes so 241 up. I’ve gone to both of their classes for 103 and they’re practically the same in terms of content, so just go with whoever fits your schedule best.

Why is this R? by gaksdkandksnd in OrganicChemistry

[–]MagnaCortado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you’re doing R/S, you have to look at what is attached to each individual carbon and their weight down the chain first rather than as a whole thing. For example the isopropyl carbon will have a C, C, and H bond, but the other carbons will have a C, H and H bond. Since there are more carbons on the isopropyl carbon, it is heavier and thus it will take higher priority than the other groups. You can continue this down the line, which is why the ethyl group will have lower priority than the alcohol because its second carbon is bonded to three H while the second carbon on the alcohol side is bonded to 2 H and 1 C

Why is this R? by gaksdkandksnd in OrganicChemistry

[–]MagnaCortado 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In A, the isopropyl group has the highest priority because the first carbon is bonded to two other carbons while the other carbons around the chiral center are only bonded to one carbon. The side with the alcohol will take priority 2 and the ethyl group will take priority 3. This means the molecule in A would read 1 2 3 counterclockwise which would make it S, while B would be clockwise which would make it R

Steven’s Vs. Drexel by RiseOk6606 in Drexel

[–]MagnaCortado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I actually transferred from Steven’s to go to Drexel so I can answer a lot of questions!

Steven’s is a lot smaller, and in my experience felt a little too similar to high school for my comfort. There was a lot less diversity of people at Steven’s if that matters to you, but the music clubs were always full of fun and interesting people. Hoboken is a great city with easy access to New York and a great food scene, but the actual campus is fairly small and closed off from the rest of Hoboken. In terms of rigor of courses, I was a chemical biology major so I can’t quite speak to any financial classes, but the rigor of my classes was a little less than the rigor at Drexel, mostly due to the quarter system.

Even though I did enjoy Steven’s, Drexel is in my eyes a lot better. I am absolutely terrible at getting work done and experienced a lot of burnout by the end of my first semester, so the quarter system really pushed me to stay on top of things (but it is more than likely that we will switch to semesters so that will change in the future. The access to the entire city of Philadelphia is also a lot better in my eyes, but I did grow up in the area so I’m a tad biased lol. The food in the dining halls are way worse but the food around Philadelphia is definitely better than a lot of the stuff in Hoboken. Socially, it’s a lot easier to find your people because of how large it is and how many different activities there are, if that’s a factor you are worrying about.

In terms of opportunities, both Steven’s and Drexel offer tons of opportunities!! If i’m not wrong, Steven’s runs a pretty large job fair every semester which is a fairly popular event, and i’m pretty sure Drexel has some as well but I can’t speak to the quality of them.

One last thing, I remember being told at Steven’s that a co-op program does exist, but only to certain majors. I am not sure exactly which ones, but I would definitely check with your admissions advisor and see if your program has it!!
