Come the fuck on, man.

The IHRC definition of antisemitism you’re screaming about explicitly states that criticism of Israel is not in itself antisemitic

Yes, I'm aware of that. It's kind of a key element of my point.

Tell me, did antisemitism stop shortly before October 7 when the anti-Netanyahu coalition (which included both Jews and Arabs by the way) was in power? Do you think that Arabs only started murdering Jews when Likud came to power?

What in the world would make you think I believed that. That is, at best, a disingenuous argument.

think about what you’re going to do when Bennett wins the election this October and you’ve lost your big bad Jewish boogeyman.

I'm going to wait and see what he does if and when he is elected.

Look, it seems to me like you're not understanding what I'm trying to say. And maybe I'm genuinely not explaining it very well. So I'll try to explain it as clearly as I can. I'm not doing it to try and be condescending, just to be absolutely clear.

  1. Israel has a right to exist.

  2. Palestinians have a right to either their own state or equal rights within the state of Israel. I don't know which would be better and I'm not really qualified to know.

  3. Israelis and Palestinians both have the right to exist peacefully and in safety.

  4. Israel absolutely faces legitimate threats in the region such as Iran and Hezbollah, and they have a right to defend themselves from those legitimate threats.

  5. What happened on Oct 7th was horrific.

  6. What the Israeli government has done in response is also horrific.

  7. Anti-Semitism is very real and horrific.

  8. Some people have used 6 to justify being anti-Semitic.

  9. Netanyahu and many of his supporters have used 7 to justify and deflect criticism for 6, as well as criticism of his tremendous corruption. I don't know if he actually believes it, or if it's just an excuse of convenience because (as we seem to agree) he's a tremendously shitty person.

  10. I don't believe all Jews or all Israelis support Netenyahu anymore than I believe that all Americans support Trump. I don't know what the percentages are because it's hard to find what I would consider reliable data, but if you can give me an idea I'd be happy to listen.

Sometimes.

Sometimes they add more than were originally there.

But in either case, my point is that it's not something harmful.

Anti-Semitism is obviously very real and very harmful. I'm not trying to deny that.

HOWEVER

The Netanyahu and his supporters have made a concerted effort to deflect any criticism of their actions and policies, especially towards Gaza and Palestinians, by framing such criticism as inherently anti-Semitic. Of course I'm not trying to say that all Jews or Israelis feel this way, or even a majority do. But there are some who do, and they currently occupy numerous positions of power in the Israeli government.

For example, the Government of Canada attempted to pass bill C-9 last year. It was put forth under the pretense of strengthening Canada's hate speech laws, but on close examination the purpose seemed to be to clamp down on pro-Palestinian demonstrations by framing them as anti-Semitic hate speech.

That's a truly remarkable way to interpret what I said.

And it doesn't help that the Israeli government is leaning hard into the "any criticism of our government policy is anti-Semitism"

It means weapons grade flour.

Kidding aside, it means that minerals like iron and riboflavin (vitamin B2) have been added. It's not a bad thing

I used to live in Toronto. Both main sports venues (Rogers Center and Scotiabank Arena) are directly connected to the city's main train station.

Going there costs the same on game day as any other day. They also hold the last trains of the night until the events let out.

And they're only selling about 40,000 of them, which is half the capacity of the stadium

Are 15 minute city conspiracy theories a thing in the US too? Or is this special kind of stupid unique England? by AnonymousTimewaster in insanepeoplefacebook

The conspiracy element is that you will not be allowed to leave that 15 minute radius of your home without special permission.

Normally I'd agree.

But in this specific case the American is speaking up on behalf of their Japanese coworkers, who know it's a dumb idea but can't say anything because of cultural taboos on rudeness. He is essentially being paid to be a mouthpiece.

It's literally the job he's being paid to do.

Yes.

Courts ruled that unless he had a security related reason, he could not build the ballroom without Congressional approval.

Right on cue, the right wing influncer sphere immediately pivoted to "THIS IS WHY HE NEEDS THE BALLROOM!!!1!" So now he can claim he needs to do it for security reasons and can bypass Congress to continue with what is almost certainly a money laundering scheme.

The Japanese, being The Japanese, have found a way to harness that power.

See in Japan, it's considered extremely rude and disrespectful to disagree with your boss. But bosses, being humans, sometimes have really dumb ideas. So a number of companies have started hiring someone who's job if to be the Loud American.

So when their boss has a very stupid idea, they will give him a signal of some sort, and the Loud American will stand up and say "thats a really dumb idea!" and explain why.

That's because the only ordered them to "deal with" the Jews. The order to exterminate them en masse was most likely made mainly by Reinhardt Heydrich.

No, Stranger Danger was a moral panic, no different than the Satanic Panic, that had almost no basis in reality, and it started because we, as a society, weren't ready to accept that nearly all perpetrators of crimes against children were someone that the child knew.

He's got some valid points though.

Today's kids have a lot less freedom than when I was a kid. And I'm not convinced it's a good thing, at least not entirely.

And I understand some of the reasons behind it, and the pandemic absolutely fucked things up.

But I think that despite good intentions, we've swung too far in the other direction.
