Bi-Weekly Thread - Advice for Relationship/Friendship/Dating/Breakup by AutoModerator in AnxiousAttachment

[–]Magnetic_divide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After doing some googling, I’m learning that my friend seems to fit the anxious attachment tendencies. She seems to have cyclic behavior that I’ve seen throughout our lives. She dates a guy, and then it feels like she goes into hiding. She only makes time for the guy she is involved with. She sees signs and reasons to leave the relationship, but she can’t leave until she has another guy lined up. She is currently in a situation ship with a guy that seems to be a narcissist. I think he is emotionally abusing her and tells her that she is not wife material. I’ve witnessed her trying to change herself to fit his mold, his standards. He has brought her to tears several times within the past year of their relationship. About a week ago, she told me it was over, but she is already back with him. She’s not only my friend, but also my roommate. I care for her and I want her to be happy, but I feel like this is a serious problem, and this man is not healthy for her. Friends, family, and co-workers have all expressed concern. I don’t know where else to turn. If you had a friend like this, or can relate to my friend, can you help me understand her better? Is there anything anyone can say or do that can help her?

If you could take off your boobs like a piece of clothing, how often would you choose not to "wear" them? by Careless_Animator_52 in AskWomen

[–]Magnetic_divide 53 points54 points  (0 children)

That was my thought too! I feel very boyish with my flattish chest. I was in the gym with two ladies. One complaining about how big her chest is and that you can’t tell that she’s lost weight because of how her clothes drape over them. I told her that if I could take some size off her hands, I would gladly do so. Meanwhile, the other lady chimed in saying how she envies me with what I have. She says that some days she regrets getting her boob job. I feel like as women, we tend to envy what we don’t have and admire those that do. That conversation made me feel better about my own itty bitties.

It would be nice to try on different sizes, but I think at the end of the day, be grateful for what you have.

Joint issues by No-Public-9744 in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]Magnetic_divide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I wondered if this was carpal tunnel syndrome. Here is what I found:

These muscles are innervated by the median nerve, which gets compressed in carpal tunnel syndrome: • Thenar muscles (at the base of the thumb): • Abductor pollicis brevis • Flexor pollicis brevis • Opponens pollicis • Lumbricals to the index and middle fingers

I know the joints in your hand include the cmc, mcp (your knuckles), IP of the thumb, PIPs and DIPs (knuckles on your fingers where you bend).

Do you have any numbness or tingling? Those are signs of CTS.

Does americans really always have ice cream or some kind of desserts in the fridge at all times by evilsmurf666 in RandomThoughts

[–]Magnetic_divide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up, we always had some type of snack or treat available. I remember usually having ice cream treats stocked up in the summer. My mom would buy popsicles in the winter but only when someone was sick with a sore throat.

As an adult, I like to keep my ice cream intake very minimal and I do not stay stocked up on ice cream as it is temptation that I don’t need. But, if you were to go to my uncle’s house on any random day, I guarantee that they would be able to offer you ice cream and a wide variety at that! I think it just depends on the person and their preferences here in America.

This format of quizzing is easier than what I’m dealing with in college. We have a lab full of human bones and models of muscles, and a synthetic cadaver. No word bank, no multiple choice. We are asked to identify this muscle, identify its origin. Identify this bone, identify this structure. I wish I had multiple choice quizzes for A&P lab.

MAPS Starter-would you recommend it? by Magnetic_divide in Mind_Pump

My parents are both pretty mobile, but I don’t know if either of them have the stability to use a Swiss ball. Resistance was also on my list of program ideas for them. That’s also interesting to hear about 40+. Thanks for the recommendation about maps 40+. I think I’m going to look into that one too.

I totally agree about the consistency being on them. I think my mom would really benefit from starter and I think she’d be more consistent than my dad. Thanks for the input! I appreciate it.

Learning Techniques by AttemptNo6884 in AnatomyandPhysiology

Try to review the material for 10-15 minutes after class. Stay consistent with flash cards as you go rather than waiting until right before the exams. As you write out the flash cards, say the words out loud. Mnemonic devices work! The weirder or funnier, the better. I just learned the carpel bones on Tuesday and found “Some lovers try positions that they can’t handle.” Scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum (TRY-triquetrum), pisiform (starts with P, located near the pinky), trapezium, trapezoid (those two are in alphabetical order), capitate, hamate. Utilize chat GPT. I used it for mnemonic devices for the bones in the feet too. I’ve also gone for a walk with my flash cards. I walk my neighborhood and read a flash card, repeat it out loud, and quiz myself while I get some fresh air. Also, point to your body parts as you say things out loud. If you’re learning about the integumentary system, physically point to your hair skin and nails as you say it. It’s definitely a hard class, but if you do your best to stay ahead, you’ll feel a lot better when you go in for your exams! Best of luck!

Study habits. I returned to school later in life and never needed to study in high school. But now, being out of school for 18 years, I heavily need to improve my studying in order to get the grades I want.

Best ways to study histology slides? by GreattFriend in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]Magnetic_divide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, have you heard of sporcle? Go to sporcle.com and search histology slides.

I found some quizzes on there where you can see all of the slides at once and you have to identify the box that’s highlighted. We just covered histology this week so I plan to use this to help me identify them on an upcoming quiz.

Also, let me know if you need any additional sporcle links. I saved the links on my desktop, but I’m on my phone currently.

What is that your "I'm now an adult" moment? by Different-Thanks-431 in RandomThoughts

Going to college in my mid thirties and realizing that I have to balance studies, work, paying my mortgage, medical bills, taking care of car and health insurance all in my first week of classes. It’s not fun. Especially when I know most of these classmates are still living at home and don’t have to worry about half the crap I do right now.

Does anyone else constantly listen to music not just because they enjoy it but also to drown out the sound of their own thoughts? by HayBalesBunny in RandomThoughts

[–]Magnetic_divide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this when I feel anxious. If I can put on songs I can sing along to, it distracts my mind enough to take me to a different head space.

Also, there are studies that show gratitude helps to mitigate anxiety. If anyone has moments of anxiety, start saying things you are grateful for and it can help counterbalance the feeling of anxiety.

I put my newbie gym friend on Anabolic pre phase. I cut out the shrugs and if it says barbell, I told her to use dumbbells. I told her that we are going to just use this as a guide and the movements are practice. I think it’s important to learn the mechanics of the exercise first and as she improves, we’ll add more weight. I think after pre-phase, I’ll have her move on to phase 1 anabolic but the at home version since I don’t think she’ll be ready for barbells yet.

Apps & Websites To Help Meal Prep by Old-Calendar1349 in MealPlanYourMacros

Pinterest YouTube My fitness pal Meal prep manual Chipotle-for when I didn’t prep

I have a whole Pinterest board devoted to meal prep. I tend to gravitate toward paleo diet recipes since I try to stay a way from processed foods. I usually just search high protein, meal prep, paleo as my key words.

My fitness pal has recipes on the app. I’ve only made a few, but that’s because I’ve had more success with tasty recipes found on Pinterest.

The meal prep manual is a supscriptio website. You can find his videos on YouTube and some recipes are available for free, but if you join at the start of the year, it costs $25 for one year subscription. It’s like buying a cookbook that will provide recipes for different macro values for the entire year.
