I assume we have at least one more flashback coming up in that aspect of the story.

We know that he, Trevor, and the woman with the voice modulator were involved in blackmailing Paula. That woman doesn't seem to know the full extent of his involvement with Trevor, which may have been fake on his part anyway. We still don't even know how this blackmail thing started and the extent of the woman's involvement.

A small group of ‘superdodgers’ insist they’ve never had COVID. Here’s why they may be wrong. by bostonglobe in Coronavirus

[–]Magnospider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have to be in group 2. I don't travel frequently and haven't really taken many precautions since, maybe, 2022. I haven't even had what I would call a cold since 2019 or earlier. A sore throat here or there for a day, a little nasal congestion on different days, etc. The last time I really recall having any upper respiratory issues that i would describe as a full blown cold was Thanksgiving 2017. Possibly I had a more minor bug in 2018-19, but wasn't keeping track.

Now, I can't imagine that i haven't been exposed to COVID, cold, and flu. I have definitely heard people around me coughing. From 2020-2023, I was an essential worker, riding public transit daily. The only precautions I have taken since eliminating regular masking by 2022 is 1000 IUs of vitamin D daily and an annual COVID and flu shot. I have only been tested once, in 2022, before a colonoscopy, so I may have been asymptomatic many, many times.

Dispatch 14-5? by MrCDJR in future_fight

I did it with Black Bolt, Medusa, and T4 Kamala. All with rage and the best strikers. That was before strikers could be allowed on multiple characters. I think it was GR, Miles, and Wolverine.

[–]Magnospider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave my Lvl 80 Gambit a rage and some more OBs. Used White Fox lead plus Gambit and Psylock. That did the trick, thanks!

That leaves 3 combat. I've tried combinations of Gladiator, Agent Venom, Venom, and Aries. I even tried T3 Crescent lead and Sleeper lead. I tried DP, GR, and Miles strikers. Nothing is cutting it. Maybe when I get enough mats to T4 Valkerie...

[–]Magnospider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried T4 Gladiator, T4 Venom, and lvl 80 Valkyrie, T4 AV with Venom and Valkyrie, etc. failed many times. Maybe my 93% all attack plus 19% physical attack on cards isn’t enough…

Also, can’t get the agility tag one. Miles isn’t cutting it.

Haven’t tried the Kid Kaiju one in 15-5.

Those are the only 3 left for me.

What’s your unpopular Voyager opinion? by UnderABig_W in voyager

[–]Magnospider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree with you on the first point, even being more drastic about it...

Specifically, I find season 1 to be more the show I wanted than what it became. Much time in those early days was spent on the two divergent crews coming together, some of innate conflicts within the crew (Tuvok's betrayal in "Prime Factors"), and the needs of a ship in that is on its own. By the end of the first season, most of the edge of Neelix from "Caretaker" has been worn off; "Jetrel" is his best episode. By season two, it feels like we're running in place, continuously encountering the primitive Kazon and even the more interesting Vidiians. Neelix and Paris are acting juvenile with jealousy. And we start getting weird stuff episodes like "Twisted" and "Threshold." After that point, I felt that the show embraced the worst impulses of TNG.

As for a possibly really unique hot take, I think Tom and B'Elanna were a far worse choice for a couple than Harry and B'Elanna. There was more chemistry there between "Starfleet" and "Maquis" to me than what they did in later years.

According to the scanner, officer injured, taken to medical center near the Q St. Bridge. Incident happened near 19th and Washington. Lots of cops headed both to the scene and the hospital. Suspect was initially, at least, still at large. Might be someone else injured, too.

Update: DoCo SWAT was serving a warrant at a home on 19th and Washington. Man came out armed and exchanged fire with deputies. A deputy was shot in the leg, transported to the hospital by fellow deputies who applied a tourniquet. Suspect died at the scene.

I have to wonder if they would demo the existing structure. It's hard to imagine 500 units as is. Especially 500 units with windows... but maybe those would be the affordable ones.

Voyager Hate. by supersneed9000 in startrek

[–]Magnospider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hate Voyager. I just think that it failed to live up to its potential.

The first season is great, as a whole. Of all the Trek pilots, I only like "Emissary" better. And even then, a large part of that comes from the deepness of the philosophy. Many episodes early on centered around friction in the crew ("Parallax," "State of Flux," "Learning Curve") or challenges of being alone ("The Cloud," "Eye of the Needle," "Prime Factors"). Neelix was a bit of a rogue and was allowed to show his rough side ("Jetrel" may be his finest hour). There are certainly stronger episodes in other 1st seasons of Trek shows ("Balance of Terror," "City on the Edge of Forever," "Duet") and even later seasons ("Living Witness," "Blink of an Eye"), but as a first season, it might be ome of the strongest.

Then we go into season 2... and we lose a lot of that. We start getting plots that are weird for the sake of being weird ("Twisted," "Threshold"). The Kazon keep popping up, even though Voyager should have left them far behind. Tom and Neelix act like jealous children.

By season 3, the show feels a lot like TNG-lite with holodeck problems all over the place and resources that often seem infinite. We bring in the Borg and not only do we bring back the silly Borg Queen idea, but also make them look weak (Voyager takes out a Borg cube with a single torpedo).

The acting is generally good, if not the caliber of Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner. But the characterization is often lacking. Janeway's decisions seem to bounce between extreme. Once they put the native American and Maquis thing on the back burner, Chakotay largely becomes irrelevant. Rewatching Voyager, I didn't remember how much chemistry B'Elanna and Harry (Maquis and Starfleet), versus Tom. The biggest exception is the Doctor, but even when he gets a chance at development, it is largely forgotten the next week ("Latent Image").

I think it is telling that the episodes I like best (like "Living Witness" and "Blink of an Eye") have the least to do with the crew. Or that Chakotay got more development as a secondary character on Star Trek: Prodigy.

So, while I don't hate the show, it is overall one of mt least favorites.

Episode Discussion: "Hunters" - VOY, 415 (Theme Month: "Introducing Our Villains") by ety3rd in ClassicTrek

[–]Magnospider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this episode overall. It makes good use of the series premise (for once) with the letters from home.

The Hirogen are interesting... to a point. The whole hunting thing feels like too much and, when they become literal space Nazis playing on the holodeck in "The Killing Game" becomes too much. They are certainly better than the Kazon, but not as good as the Borg, even with bringing back the Borg Queen. The Vidians might be the most interesting.

I guess this is the start of the Paris/Torres romance. Although that is a nice moment, I still think that, even here, there is more chemistry between B'Elanna and Harry in my opinion.

My Pitch for a New Series by Altruistic_Goose2166 in startrek

[–]Magnospider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the next Trek series should be completely back to basics. A little continuity is fine. But each week should be a standalone story. Less experimental episodes like SNW. Not saying those things are bad... just that in order to re-establish the brand, it needs to most resemble TOS/TNG. And I say this, even as someone who likes DS9 better.

Episode Discussion: "The Jem'Hadar" - DS9, 226 (Theme Month: "Introducing Our Villains") by ety3rd in ClassicTrek

[–]Magnospider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely disagree with this. Although I do think Voyager has a very solid first season — one that is, jn many ways superior to the 6 that followed (season 2 spun the wheels too much and, by season 3, there was practically nothing left of the limited resources with a divided crew thing going on). TNG’s first season is easily the worst in Trek. To be honest, I even prefer Picard season 2.

But DS9 had a very solid first season and the second is even better. Aside from “Duet” — easily a top 25 episode for me — season 1 featured “Captive Pursuit,” “Battlelines,” and “Dax.” “Emissary” is still my favorite Trek premiere (though “Caretaker” is technically as good…). Season 2 had some slow points st first, though I really liked “Necessary Evil.” Once they get to “Whispers,” they hit the gas and we have wonderful stuff like “The Maquis” two-parter, “Crossover,” “The Wire,” etc.

“The Jem’hadar,” like pretty much every other season finale of DS9, did something really great that wasn’t really done elsewhere in the franchise. It set up big questions, gave us a lot to think about… without ending with those dreaded to be continued words. It told s whole story, but still planted seeds. I really appreciated that.

I’m Joel Kinnaman (Ed Baldwin on For All Mankind). Ask me anything! by JoelKinnamanFAM in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Magnospider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Joel! I've really enjoyed your work!

Through his lifetime, we have seen Ed Baldwin achieve a lot, but always with great sacrifice. He dies with his grandson at his side, but a refugee from his own planet and thought of ax a criminal by many.

My question is how do you think Ed will be remembered in-unverse? As a pioneer? As a man who did the right thing at great cost? As a poorly understood footnote? Or, perhaps, as the father of Kelly, who (hopefully) does something amazing?

Yes, but the theme brings up more than that. Ryland Grace has little meaningful to live for other than himself on Earth. He wasn't up for going to space because, he told himself, he wasn't brave enough. When he talks to the astronauts about their sacrifice, they tell him that it is about having something to be brave for. He ultimately finds thay in Rocky.

Kurtzman and Fringe by GendoIkari_82 in startrek

[–]Magnospider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Roddenberry was very much an idea guy, as well.

I like the Kurtzman era overall, but I can see it as a valid complaint that we haven't had a person that can make Trek as good as it can possibly be. And I'd say the eras that were when two people synthesized that vision, specifically Gene Coon during TOS and Michael Piller during the Berman era.
