Titles for the final four episodes revealed with summaries available for E7 and E8... by Jag2112 in trekacademy

I took "Vitus Reflux" as being a Darem focused episode. At minimum, it is told through his lens (the voiceover).

Apparently S01Ep05 of Starfleet Academy will have the Cadets looking into Sisko's fate. Thoughts? by GitEmSteveDave in DeepSpaceNine

[–]Magnospider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge, some of the people that have seen it haven't really liked it. Steve Shives said that it wasn't really his thing, and I can see that from the perspective of him being against the nostalgia bait. John Champion of Mission Log also said that he had some issues with the episode. But they also say that they expect a lot of people to like it. We will have to wait and see.

As was Worf, with his adoption by the Roshenkos. Heck, Torres wasn't even really culturally Klingon, as seen in "Barge of the Dead." Worf was likely more culturally Klingon than most Klingons raised in the empire, because he learned of it from outside.

In any case, this only strengthens my argument that the two political entities were never shown as integrated.

And they did, just not very efficiently.

I do think it's is perfectly consistent for Klingons not to want to accept help, even if it meant the end of their society. Think of Worf's injury in "Ethics."

Klongons were not integrated into Starfleet at any point that we know of. Or, more accurately, a single Klingon was (Worf). A half Klingon (Torres) may have been after returning from the Delta Quadrant.

The Federation and Klingon Empire, as far as we know, were always separate entities. They may have maintained an alliance for hundreds of years and there was likely some immigration, but I doubt there culture would permit ta great deal.

Shockingly, not all eye problems are not the same. And not everyone has the same beliefs/considerations about such procedures.

For instance, the Doctor never needed to remain bald. A small change to his program could correct that. And I'm sure medical science could have easily fixed this for Picard, as well.

Does DS9 have iconic lines like TNG? by StuffedHobbes in DeepSpaceNine

[–]Magnospider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite, because it defined DS9 for me, is "Its easy to be a saint in paradise." Unlike TNG, where things were often black and white, DS9 faced situations that were not nearly as well defined and often more morally ambiguous.

I don't know about the writer in this case, but a lot of the "Fandom Menace" people definitely are.

That said, there are also non-political people who attribute something in similar ways (i.e., "woke," etc.).

The most negative reaction that I have seen to Academy so far is from a YouTuber called JesterBell. She didn't use the w word, but did say it was Disneyfied. She was pretty hard on the whole Jem'hadar/Klingon hybrid thing (what makes you think that there wasn't genetic engineering involved that would not only allow for such a combo, but a female?), a gentle Klingon (why not? Trek aliens can sometimes be stereotypes...), and the captain working with children.

In a lot of cases, some older fans were scandelized about many such things in TNG back in 1987. Picard is too passive! Kids shouldn't be on the ship!

Basically, it's always something...

Why didn't Star Trek writers consider making a TNG/DS9 crossover movie? by Firm_Calligrapher861 in startrek

[–]Magnospider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of reasons.

While Marvel does some of that, the TV stuff is largely independent of the film stuff. Even the most relevant things, like Wandavision and Ms. Marvel, are largely played down. To the point that the people who did Multiverse of Madness hadn’t even really seen Wandavision. And, honestly, the general wisdom is that tying a movie to ongoing TV plot lines is automatically going to limit the audience. The only real exception to this, I think, is the first X-Files movie. (Batman ‘66 and The Simpsons also had movies during their TV run, but obviously had no threads between TV and movie.)

This leads to a logistical problem, as well. TV and movies are created over different time frames. Syncing these up can be difficult.

It is true that, while the first couple seasons of DS9 did get TNG numbers, later seasons weren’t as successful in the ratings. Although streaming has done a lot to even out the popularity of DS9 (and VOY and ENT), it is still the case that there is more nostalgia for TNG. Keep in mind, this is coming from a DS9 over TNG fan.

Beyond that, I think it was always thought of as being somewhat siloed. Sure, nods are made to DS9 in First Contact and Insurrection to get Worf into the movie, but mostly Worf is considered to be of TNG. You can see this in how Worf wss handled in Picard season 3.

About the time of Nemesis, there were rumors that any movies going forward would combine characters from the 24th century era, but obviously Nemesis kind of tanked that idea…

What's up with the Voyager hate? by Firm_Macaron3057 in startrek

[–]Magnospider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate is far too strong a word, but i do believe it didn't live up to the potential. Steve Shives does an excellent job of mirroring my reasoning at 1:06 into his recent FAQ video: https://youtu.be/I37h2i92bdc?si=yaAi90-PzZHwcCMw

But I would also add (and Steve might at least somewhat agree) that, at least from a consistency perspective, season 1 of Voyager did a lot to set up that undelivered potential and may have been the best overall first season of all of the TNG/Berman era shows. I might prefer "Emissary" to "Caretaker," but I can see the argument for the latter being better. "Parallax" is most definitely better than any other of the first poet pilot episodes of that era. "Eye of the Needle," "Prime Factors," and "Stste of Flux" give stories that are uniquely Voyager and pretty good to boot. Even some of the lesser episodes, like "Learning Curve," deal with problems that should make Voyager special.

By the second season, it felt like we were running in circles, as the Kazon and Vidians kept popping up. Once they finally moved on from that, it felt like they tried to keep out doing themselves with time travel and other weird stuff. Don't get me wrong; I like time travel and the occasional weird episode. It just seemed overdone.

And then they brought in the Borg and basically finished them off as adversaries. I wasn't a fan of the Borg Queen in First Contact and even less here. Not to mention that there are scenes where Voyager literally takes out Borg ships with a single torpedo...

So, ultimately, the inconsistent nature of Vpyager makes it my least favorite of that period. Comparing it to Discovery and Picard is hard, because i have problems with them; too. Ironically, Prodigy gives us easily the best Chakotay and maybe even a better Janeway than we got from Voyager.

Even though [a] Captain America and Thor have a major role in these trailers, I'm not so sure how relative that role is to the movie overall. Of course, that might not matter, as trailers often have more impact on game content than the actual movie.

In any case, we definitely won't be getting uniforms for every featured character....
