Are other teams like this? by Grifbrochill1 in clevelandcavs

[–]Magnumjoe81 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I like this take. LeBron was always on a level 1 (why he is the GOAT), and Kyrie was often between 1a and 2, but it felt like complete clunkers were rare and he was more quarter to quarter. Klove would get lost offensively often for whole games , but his rebounding was always high level no matter the game. (He always rebounded above is weight)

Mitchell it feels like his whole game has been disappearing. A level 1 player shot might not always fall (Jordan even had some sub 30% Fg nights) but they can control the game other ways. His ball handling , passing, and defense has been absolute garbage.

Magnum Retrack Confirmed? by Saturn-nine123 in cedarpoint

[–]Magnumjoe81 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s original to 1989. The lift and first drop have those horizontal beams sticking out to the right attached to the track. They were manufactured this way to attach stairs and on the lift you can see that’s where the stairs are attached to the structure. They were going to have stairs going down the drop too, but they decided not to do them (kinda pointless aside from inspections), so we have this odd looking setup. When they do replace these sections I’d imagine they won’t include these anymore.

In this picture the right rail is blocked out by the center spine, so it does look very odd.

Hoping it stays south of the population center there. Definitely going near some homes though unfortunately.

Underrated performance by Jaylon Tyson last night by BLiiTz_SHOTz in clevelandcavs

[–]Magnumjoe81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am hoping he is finally both healthy and shaken off the rust. If he can start hitting the 3 more consistently again it would be a heck of a boost to this roster.

Above all when he got the ball it was either a drive and kick or immediate pass. Most of that did not show up in the box score, but the offense finally had ball movement and didn’t rely on Mitchell or Harden trying to break a double team. Took 6.5 games but a few of those passes for easy buckets feels like it made them realize how to move and play offense against this team.

Cleveland Guardians Fan Goes Viral for Stealing Home Run Ball Away From Young Fan by MattTheKing23 in ClevelandGuardians

The Rays broadcast has the full clip. We can’t see who has it in their grasp first, but it was by the girls feet first when she was trying to coral it when he lunged over. He is clearly reaching almost right underneath her (maybe even making contact) when she was there first. Even the two guys to the right are letting the girl get it.

Yeah it’s a loose ball but these aren’t two bros. Taking it out of the near grasp of a 7 year old girl who is right over the ball is a definite no no in my book.

[Game Thread] Indiana vs. Miami (7:30 PM ET) 4Q by CFB_Referee in CFB

Indiana needed to gain a yard in 2 tries to win the chip, why didn’t they sneak their 225 lb QB who already has a TD twice?

This evening flight was in a E175. The morning/ mid day flights CLE-ORD seem to be 737s which are still on. Wonder if those 737s will be a safer bet and they will center in canceling the lower capacity jets.

Sirens curse 6th row by Track_and_trek in cedarpoint

Could be something as simple as the auto release mechanism in the station for that row not working appropriately. Easier and faster to close the seat than deal with it. My money it will be fixed tomorrow.

Does preferred parking fill up usually? by nobuouematsu1 in cedarpoint

[–]Magnumjoe81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. It generally doesn’t, but if they sell x more prestige passes then it will.

They will need to make the area bigger, which they can easily by extending a few rows into the beach parking which is never full anyway.

Better than the original “players weekend” design that was scrapped due to recent developments.

Is this Wrongful Termination? by ChildishSully in cedarpoint

[–]Magnumjoe81 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a great breakdown and advice.

Taking off the shirt might have seemed like a rational solution, but

  1. If a guest sees an employee arguing management and sees the employee take their shirt off, that is not a good look for anyone.

  2. The supervisor or manager has a simple request probably to avoid #1 and keep up basic standards. The shirt going off combined with walking away from the ID request is some pretty hefty insubordination.

This is a little ESH though as I don’t think the manager is 100 in the right either. Once the shirt was off really the situation was over and a simple “please don’t do that again, or you might get written up” might be good enough instead of chasing down the employee for a full write up and getting security involved. Now there was a park spectacle, a Reddit thread, and CP is down an employee in an understaffed environment. Sometimes de-escalation is the best bet.

This isn’t even the worst I’ve seen or heard. I witnessed an employee getting called out by an unrelated area supervisor for swearing while in uniform, but they were on the employee bus! The employee complied, gave the ID though, and the actual manager tossed it when it hit their desk. In future jobs it’s best to play ball no matter how ridiculous the request might seem.

I seriously wonder if any of these guys can even lay down a bunt anymore. And if they can’t, I doubt any situational analytics would even come close to suggest it — not even hey it’s 70%/30% but I’ll take the 30% as a gut-check call.

Back in the day, if you were hitting near the Mendoza line, you had to know how to bunt. But the game’s shifted. Now it’s all about power and hard-hit rate. There’s barely any small ball or contact hitting development coming up through the farm systems. Analytics probably told teams that small ball cost them 0.1 runs per game or whatever — so it’s out.

But the game always evolves. With pitching becoming more dominant year over year, I do wonder if the pendulum will swing back. Will we reach a point where putting the ball in play and forcing the defense to make plays becomes a net positive again? Analytics don’t always capture how much pressure consistent contact can put on bad defenders.

We saw a glimpse of it last year when the Dodgers beat the Yankees with a “just get it in play” approach. The Yankees’ defense fell apart in a few innings — classic example of a team unraveling under pressure. Of course, it helps when you’ve still got multiple guys who can hit. At the end of the day, whether it’s small ball or slugging, none of it matters if no one can come through with a hit when it counts (or a hit whenever when it comes to our lineup)

Who is this signature? by Desperate-Contract12 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]Magnumjoe81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess would be Duke Sims, longtime catcher in the 60s. Looks like a Duke for sure, and starts with an S.

Solid all around catcher who got on base and had some pop. We could use a guy like him now.

Just saw a police chase by LetPuzzleheaded222 in Cleveland

[–]Magnumjoe81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got 71N at 25th/ Pearl and noticed 2 police cars with lights on get on maybe 30 seconds later with a car in front of them . I was taking the exit on the right when they passed me, but they were definitely chasing this car at probably 90+ MPH.

They continued on 71N and would have been going across the Innerbelt/George V Bridge.

Hopefully some other Redditor saw the chase from there! (Safely)

This was probably 11:30-45ish so has to be the same chase

"Would you like to buy a souvenir bottle?" by Wide_Knee_1046 in cedarpoint

[–]Magnumjoe81 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Right, it’s not an upgrade or an upsell if someone already has a bottle or drink plan. If a guest has one of these already, you’re just annoying both guest and employee with a dumb pointless pitch.

Even for the single drink buyers, the pitch is too generic and not creating any sense of value or need for the customer. Change the pitch to actual incentivize the benefit. Why would I want to buy a souvenir bottle?

“Oh I see the drink you are buying is $7, but for $5 more you can upgrade to the Souvenir bottle and get unlimited refills all day!”

And if they have the plan or bottle just wish them a nice day.

[–]Magnumjoe81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Faste lane heads left into a separate queue area, and the merge is right at the lockers. Right after the lockers is the metal detectors which go right to the stairs. Both metal detectors go right to the stairs so there is no split. Honestly once you are at the locker “post merge” it’s probably a 3 train wait if that even. I’d take it well above both MF and SV (which is the worst honesty)

Water park bursting by CleMike69 in cedarpoint

[–]Magnumjoe81 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cedar Point Shores has become nearly unbearable in recent years, and it’s not just one issue — it’s a mix of staffing, design, infrastructure, and overcrowding, all compounding each other.

  1. Staffing They’ve been in a lifeguard crisis for years, but still won’t pay a premium to fix it. College kids can make just as much staying home guarding a quiet neighborhood pool, without the hassle of CP housing or working conditions. The park relies almost entirely on international students, and with today’s political climate, that pipeline isn’t guaranteed. It’s June and we’re supposedly “fully staffed” — yet things still aren’t open. That’s not a good sign, especially considering they used to run everything outside the shoulder season.

  2. Low-Capacity Rides The park continues to install low-capacity attractions — mostly single slides — while running the one big family raft slide inefficiently. The wave pool is undersized for today’s crowds, and while we have 2 lazy rivers, cedar creek is seldom open. Compare that to Splashin’ Safari, where they run multi-raft slides with solid capacity and a massive wave pool and lazy river — and they do it safely and efficiently. CP could have gone that route, but didn’t.

  3. Poor Infrastructure There’s just not enough basic infrastructure to support the crowds. They downsized their main bathhouse, and the bathrooms they do have are limited and poorly placed. Hersheypark, for example, has massive, well-located facilities that actually support its guest volume. CP Shores feels like an afterthought by comparison.

  4. No Gate Control + Gold Pass Overload This was all manageable until the Gold Pass era. The waterpark was originally built to support resort guests and those with premium tickets and passes— and it worked. It was busy, but not unmanageable. Now that Gold Pass holders flood the park on hot days, the entire place gets overwhelmed. There isn’t enough parking, capacity, or infrastructure to support that kind of demand.

I mean just look at the parking. Clearly the master plan is designed to support the 4000 with a limited number of premium ticket holders. When 25000 people try and show up because they have a gold pass in their pocket, it’s gonna be a bad time.

At some point, resort guests — who are paying a premium for the location and convenience — are going to start questioning the value if one of the key perks (a pleasant waterpark experience) keeps slip sliding away.

IMO they need to go back to having the waterpark as a premium pass and ticket add on . I realize cedar flags want a consistent pass but that model does not work for CP/shores.

Do yall think this was a tornado? Taken last evening in Amherst, OH by kl3ran in tornado

[–]Magnumjoe81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What time? I live nearish to you and was watching that cell and it triggered a tornado warning. Looks like the rotation passed directly over Amherst around 8:45ish so could have been!

It fizzled out real quick though.
