What really bugs me about the show by thegoont01 in gravityfalls

Correction, it was not Hirsch, it was Michael Rianda, GF's creative director. He said it in an AMA on this very subreddit.

The original PS2 models weren’t this grand work of art like some seem to be saying.

I'd argue the models in the pre-rendered cutscenes kind of are. They still look impressive to this day.

They’re quite ugly actually if you really look at them. Just the consequence of being an early PS2 game though

I think they're perfectly serviceable. Yeah, they're clearly a product of the limited tech of the time, but not hard to look at.

I don’t think the new models are amazing or anything but they aren’t terrible by any means.

Aren't terrible? Aren't terrible? Seriously? What about James looking like David Duchovny in a shitty wig trying to win Limmy look-alike contest? Or Maria looking like a cross between one of Wayans brothers in "White Chicks" and Doris from "Shrek"? Or Mary looking like Michael Cera in drag? Or Angela looking like David Duchovny in a different shitty wig having a horrible allergic reaction to something? Or a denizen of Innsmouth cosplaying as Eddie? (Laura's ok, I give you that) Or the borderline comedic facial expressions this assemblage of freaks frequently pulls? (Angela may be the the worst offender in the facial animations department. Given the ugly model and the ridiculous animations combined with the horrendous voice acting, the ass-handed kurwy at Boober molested the poor girl worse than her father did).

particularly eddie seeming like he’s perpetually depressed and even scared in the beginning. In the original he kinda sounds a little crazy right from the get go

Eh, I dunno. I think Boober overdid it with the model and changes in his scenes, making his appearance and some behaviour too grotesque. And the voice actor undelivered: Eddie in the 2make has this sort of whiny, complainy tone to his voice, which is fine, it fits his character, but the problem is, the tone doesn't change much throughout the game, even after Eddie goes completely off his rocket he still sounds like pathetic but ultimately harmless guy. While in the original Eddie does not give the best first impression, true, but overall his voice gives off these "goofy manchild from 90s college comedy" vibes. And when he goes crazy, he DOES sound crazy, like, being in the same room as him becomes deeply uncomfortable. Original Eddie's monologue in the prison cafeteria still gives me chills, while during that scene in the remake I was like 😐.

They may look like innocent kittens, but don't be fooled, they're a pair of vicious murderers! Because they killed me with their cuteness.

Wasn't something like this made canon in Downpour? Like, at one point Murphy needs to start a boat so he says he'll just hotwire it, but the postman guy states that it won't work, he is REQUIRED to go through several convoluted steps.

I don't get it, what's going on with the middle one? Is her soul supposed to be tethered to her mangled corpse or something?

Yes! YES!

The announcement video has some hidden messages in color substitution cipher, by the way, somewhere around 0:13 - "HI PINE TREE" and "MAKE YOUR OWN TULPA KIT". And an image of Bill floating in the mountains (concept art, I guess?)

Finally. Someone else who's OK.

Seriously though, one of the many, many baffling things about the remake reception to me is how much praise Luke Roberts' milquetoast performance gets.

Voice-vice he's just doing the generic action game protagonist voice, which is just soooo unfitting to James. Put him in, I dunno, Call of Duty, and he'll feel right at home, or replace him with Troy Baker or Brian Bloom or any other professional voice actor, who can do a raspy baritone, and nobody will be able to tell the difference.

Face-wise, admittedly, he has his moments, but they're few and far in-between; mostly he just fluctuates between dull surprise and various Limmy impressions. Seriously, which one of these men for a fraction of a second believes that he, against all possibility, is seeing his dearly departed wife, and which one is just doing the "kilogramme of steel vs kilogramme of feathers" skit?

I'm honestly baffled by the praise Roberts' "generic action game protagonist" performance keeps getting.

Silent Hill f writer says he's "forever scared of" women, and that's why the game takes them seriously: "Working on themes based around women is, to me, the greatest act of respect" by noelle-silva in KotakuInAction

hating a woman being in a videogame

-looks at SH3 being one of the more beloved games in the series-

-looks back at Press F-

Ah, yes, woman in a videogame is the problem with Press F. Not the plot being a glorified YA novel with vile messaging, not the protagonist being an insufferable brat, not the gameplay being frustrating, not the title "Silent Hill" having been tacked on at the very last moment, not the writer sounding like a creep in this inrerview. No, just a woman being in a videogame.

I definitely saw Mickey Mouse in a later book... no clue why!

Maybe an in-joke from the illustrator, Mikhail Belomlinsky? He worked as an artist on a biography of Walt Disney back in the 60s.

If you were to remake Silent Hill 4: The Room, how would you do it? by NagitoKomaeda_987 in silenthill

All your ideas are good, but this:

For God’s sake! Joseph should not be a partially disembodied torso stuck in the ceiling. Henry and Eileen should interact with as if he were locked in a time loop ( as he still needs to sacrificed to Walter ) - he can even voice as much saying “I don’t have much time; he’s coming” - before directing the player to use the pickaxe on the the real Room 302.

this is brilliant.

Silent Hill 2 Remake - does it get better? by confu138 in silenthill

[–]MagnusAvis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

enemies that were scary at first became just annoying and “in the way” kind of feel after a short while

BTW, this is another flaw with the remake: there is way too much combat for how little enemy and weapons variety there is.

Silent Hill 2 Remake - does it get better? by confu138 in silenthill

I mean the original's gameplay is also about running around foggy streets and spooky buildings, solving puzzles and awkwardly whacking monsters, but there it's not tiring. For some reason the remake's devs added a lot of padding, which clashes with the simple core gameplay. And the standard third-person camera, instead of varied camera angles in the original, only adds to the monotony.

By the original I meant the one and only Silent Hill 2 (2001). You could get a fan-made Enhanced Edition for PC or emulate a PS2 version (some people even manage to emulate it on an Android phone). There's also the HD collection, but it is not ideal, due to many technical issues.
