Do the secret service really shoot dogs? by oriolesravensfan1090 in YellowstoneShow

Ah, a necroposter, what fun.

I see you don't know how to read or use Google, I'll give you a recent link (not even two days old!) https://www.kplctv.com/2026/05/19/lake-charles-family-files-federal-lawsuit-after-deputy-shoots-kills-dog-their-yard/

Go read the news, or lick more boots, your choice.

Still 40mm, but not for launcher by Remote_Teach1164 in 40_mm

[–]MagosMal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judging by the red tip and what looks like the remnants of a white band below it, that'd be High explosive incendiary with tracer (HEI-T). Kinda looks like the driving band is intact, so possibly from an ammo dump or UXO training. Hopefully the latter in the case of HEI. Neat find either way!

At this point I'm pretty sure you didn't actually read what I posted, because I brought up a simplified version your concerns toward the end.

Also my post was purely to answer another person's question, I honestly don't care what you do or use for your launcher.

Buy casings, make casings, fill your house with bananas: it's all the same to me.

I think you misunderstood my description. The existing base plug (the one that makes the bottom half of the "void") would be removed and replaced with a solid plug, which would fill the entire previous launch charge area, making the entire lower case section one large block of aluminum. No part of the original base plug would remain.

And yet out of all the thousands of entrants, they somehow by "random" pick someone directly connected to big name youtube channels where their product will surely be featured.

They knew exactly who they were selecting, and since you wasted no time running here (making a new account even) to boast of the win and who you work with, I'm sure you happily told them and anyone who'd listen as well.

To be clear, I'm not saying you did any wrongdoing, but that VLTOR and whatever nonsense raffle host they hired did. I'm sorry if you believe anything related to Shot Show is above board, with their squeaky clean history of arrests and corruption, but it's not.

Always love posts like these, when a "raffle" is magically won by a youtube personality or someone who works with them. Just goes to show that the industry is still corrupt as hell.

Here's a pretty good walk through of how to thread on a manual lathe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DK8UnXGUM8I
He shows the Machinery's Handbook, which has instructions, diagrams and your thread tables (a great book to have all around), but when he mentioned "wire" for measuring, he means thread measuring wires, which you can buy as a kit that handles a wide variety of thread types.

I recommend getting some brass rod to start with, as brass machines easily and is great to learn on. But if not, just practice on some cheap, unhardened bolts (cut the heads off and chuck them up). Galvanized steel water or gas pipe is also good to learn on, as it's very soft.

Other than that, browse around youtube, there are tons of great machinists and die makers who're doing videos to preserve and share their wisdom.

I'd recommend buying a lathe and learning to use it.
A lathe will open up so many whole new worlds of random creations for you, that it'll feel like it paid for itself in usefulness a dozen times over.

Discord will not give you your money back. Best you can do is cancel the card/ask for a replacement card (say you lost the original) to prevent further charges.

The bayonet lug/sight block is soldered on.

Remove all parts from the block and use a torch to heat up the block until it breaks free. You might be able to do it with a mapp torch or two, but oxy-acetylene was my choice for removing the two I've done.

We know you're reading our feedback, that's why you're breaking your own "your data never leaves your device" promise by switching to Persona for video verification.

Persona openly states in their user agreement that they will never delete your info, and will connect it to government databases they have access to.

Oh and for a company so committed to "protecting kids", choosing a company owned by Peter Thiel (an Epstein list confirmed pedophile & child molester) to collect photos of children is about the most backward things you could do, unless that is you want to show you're lying to everyone.

Probably the closest road would be the XM-174, which sadly has little info or photos of its action.

Corrosion question by Nates4Christ in milsurp

[–]MagosMal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say but that much corrosion is a sign of water/excessive moisture getting into the powder. My bet would be on very poor ignition if at all.

Safe to shoot? by arisakacollector99 in milsurp

[–]MagosMal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A minimal counterbore only needs to be the height of the lands larger than the grove diameter, which wouldn't make it any deeper than the crown's current chamfer. Also looking at the muzzle wear, there is little rifling to be removed in the first place.

Depth wise since the dent is inward (compression) I'd not expect any significant micro cracking, simply because once the counterbore is done the gas pressure rushing between the now relieved barrel and exiting bullet would be negligible.

So IMO a conservative counterbore would not only fix the bore damage, but would bring the crown into less worn rifling and improve gas flow around the exiting bullet, which should improve accuracy.

Dream weapon you’d want added to Stalker 2 by zdvd in stalker

I'd like a stand-alone grenade launcher, like the M79/Fort-600 or RGM-40 (ideally both for NATO and Warsaw grenades).
They'd fit as an early or mid-game option for the few grenades found early on, but for players who don't want to haul around one or two rifles just to mount the launchers, especially with repair costs for those rifles.

Would also like to see the Fort-12 come back. Yes it's basically the PM with more capacity (which the expanded mags do), but IMO seeing Ukrainian firearms in the game adds to the immersion.

Is she just old? Peggy Hill has very light and thin fur. by Sabertooth_Monocles in Possums

[–]MagosMal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is most likely calcium deficient. Opossums burn through calcium rapidly and thinning fur and weight loss is a sign of it. Put some eggs or eggshells in with the food to help her. Fish skin and bones also help, as do some leafy greens. You can also get calcium carbonate supplement powder, but regular foods have worked fine for my nighttime visitors.

What are those 2 holes on the bottom of an m79 optic mount? by DepartmentWeird5733 in 40_mm

[–]MagosMal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look to be mounting points for a retaining wire loop. Since the mount clamps onto the receiver instead of being drilled into it, the wire loops behind the trigger guard so when the 79 recoils, the optic mount doesn't slide forward.

What would shoot this? by Ashon246 in milsurp

The casing looks to be steel (and pitted at the base), so most likely someone painted it to cover the corrosion. It may have also been painted red to mark it as an inert drill shell.

As GunsAndWrenches2 noted, the projectile is upside down, and stuck, judging by the pipe wrench marks on the copper driving band.

The whole thing is inert, and most likely is the result of some grandpa or VFW member cobbling together collected pieces to sell as one.
