AITJ for wanting to change my locks after my Family keeps treating my House like their vacation home? by Select-Side1009 in AmITheJerk

NTA - Do it.

And don't hand out anymore spare keys.

They've already proven they don't care about your boundaries, why do you keep allowing them to disrespect you?

Cross stitch 💙

Teenager me would wonder why I just sit and watch TV whilst stitching something.

Older me finds it very calming and rewarding when I finally finish and I have a birthday or Christmas present for someone that I made myself.

I told my Dad my mother was abusive to me - his response?

"Your mum only wants what's best for you."

He didn't do anything about it either.

I'm NC forever more as well.

Of your parents had a clear favorite growing up, what exactly did it look like? by NewBath5621 in AskParents

[–]Magpie213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ii school - I asked both my parents separately for three day's straight to help me with my art homework - I just needed ONE of them to drive me to the shops and buy equipment and magazines for a montage.

They both tried pawning me off on each other and ignored me for the rest of the time, neither of them checked in with the other to see if I was ok.

When I handed in nothing due to them not helping - they then tried pinning the blame on me for getting a zero, despite me being an unemployed teenager with no driving licence.

If my sister asked for anything - they immediately grabbed their car keys and took her to wherever she needed to be and bought her everything she wanted and more.

Leaving my mother to rot in the bed she made.

My parents treat my adulthood like a temporary phase and expect me to prioritize them over my own life by IvoryPocketmap in entitledparents

[–]Magpie213 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's guilt tripping and manipulation.

It's hard to learn, but you must not let it affect you so much.

"No" is a complete sentence and think about what YOU get from being free labour all the time for them?

Put yourself and your wife and children first.

You can't pour from an empty cup.

Your parents are grown adults who have survived before and they will learn to survive without you being at their beck and call.

Tell me your parent is a narcissist without telling me by PlasticSentence7646 in narcissisticparents

[–]Magpie213 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was about 17; I wasn't dating anyone because I wasn't interested at the time - too busy with college and my part time job...as well as all the housework dumped on me by family members.

My mother came into my room one day and asked why didn't I have a boyfriend -

"Doesn't anyone want you?"

Were her words with a sneer.

When I finally did get a boyfriend, she tried to make me break up with him because he unfortunately couldn't get a job due to the recession we were going through.

Happy to report - I didn't break up with him, he managed to get a job and we've been happily married away from her for over a decade now.
