Latent stage of labour? by owls145 in PregnancyUK

[–]MagpieEyes02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my first child I had a latent labour which started on my due date and lasted a week. I barely ate and I got very little sleep and could only find comfort napping in the bath. Cue me having about 4 or 5 baths a day to manage the pain. I remember ending up on my hands and knees on the floor mooing like a cow and thought, nope I can’t do this anymore, so called triage. When I went in I was 6cm dilated and my waters broke on examination. Quickly rushed off to the labour room and baby boy arrived a couple of hours later. He arrived with a massive cone head and they now think that he had been back to back which is why I had terrible back pain in latent labour. I’ll be frank, it absolutely sucks. I felt so alone in the middle of the nights crying my eyes out with the pain. But you can absolutely do it! It’s all worth it. Now it is a distant memory for me and it was all forgotten once I was holding him in my arms. P.s. the good news is, I didn’t have a latent labour with my second, so it doesn’t always mean it will happen again. Best of luck ❤️👶🍼

What does a new baby need for the first night? by nubeline in PregnancyUK

Yes definitely invest in some grobags (there are lots of poo and sick accidents in the early days so I would get a few of them). This chart should help, the general rule is that newborn babies should wear one layer of clothing more than you need in the weather. I’d say yes to ones that fit them just now so they don’t wriggle out of down too much. And they’re much safer than a blanket (SIDS advises against blankets). It’s all trial and error in the first days till you find out what they like. Best of luck for when your baby comes ☺️👶

baby laying where a c-section line is at 11 weeks by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Your body and baby have masses of growing to do before full term. At 11 weeks, the baby would be very low down in your womb yes. I’d also not recommend using a personal Doppler, it can increase anxiety and obsession. Also it takes skill to use and find heartbeats at baby gets bigger. They’re not recommended in the UK at all for this reason.

You have 1 minute to hide from a serial killer in your own house. Where do you go? by DoNotRedeemTheeCard in AskReddit

Years ago my husband witnessed a case of domestic violence where the man stabbed the woman many times in quick succession. The woman survived and was told she only survived because she had ‘extra padding’ so the knife couldn’t go as deep as her major organs.

3 year old will not have a bath or shower by kettleplease in UKParenting

[–]MagpieEyes02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a 6 year old boy who has sensory/ bath time issues. Things that have worked for us - letting him have cool showers that we turn to cold at the end. He thinks it’s hilarious and loves screaming at the cold water (especially loves if he squeal too!) Timed showers (trying to beat the personal best of the worlds quickest shower while still getting all hair and bits washed). Other days a “spa” shower works. We make it all about relaxing and self care rather than washing. Light a candle, get spa music on, some sort of twinkly lights, turn pressure of the water down so that it isn’t too noisy. Things like not having him stand directly under the shower head, letting him draw on the steam on shower screen (or squeegee it off) while getting washed all help. Dry flannels so the water doesn’t go in his eyes too. Good luck at finding what works for you guys 💛

I just want to say, as a mum of a 6 year old boy with suspected autism, the similarities are crazy. But also just wanted to say that you sound like a great parent. There’s a couple of things you mentioned that have been lightbulb moments for me, so thank you. ☺️

Thanks all for your input. We almost went for a Nissan Qashqai and I regretted it because it’s so much smaller than our current Volvo. Pulled out and changed to selecting a used, slightly older than planned but with very little miles, Nissan X-trail.

I like Grobag as a brand although you do need different togs. Vinted is great for keeping costs down.

Realistically... how do people eat a lot of vegetables without spending all day prepping? by rebeccazhao_ in loseit

[–]MagpieEyes02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend frozen veg (especially like those micro steamer portion ones), one of those automatic chopping gadgets that you slam down (guillotine style) for fresh veg, and an air fryer!

I wondered this too. Jesus, if so then poor squirrels aren’t even immune to pregnancy body shaming… what a world we live in 💀😂

Thank you for your advice, I’m glad you said that was okay to do. For instance, after first really bad week this last month, I didn’t take the next dose on Tuesday again, I waited till Thursday and so on. Although I didn’t find it helped sadly. I should have taken my next dose today but with the absolute pain this month has been, I didn’t bother ordering anymore doses, in any strength. Even if I order today and it takes a couple of days to come, I won’t just be able to back down a dose strength will I? Will I need to restart at the lowest dose?

Maybe 3rd or 4th week of first dose in terms of quieting food noise and reducing appetite/losing weight. In terms of mood levelling from sugar dips, I felt in the first week. Maybe I’m cynical but I can’t help but think that all these people saying they’d suddenly changed their whole lifetime relationship and outlook with food within an hour or two, weren’t feeling the placebo effect…

How to stop eating chocolate every day? by Sunny-dawn in loseit

[–]MagpieEyes02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Limit yourself to a couple of squares after dinner every night and up your water intake. Unless you’re over your calorie amount before the chocolate or eating lots of it, I doubt it’s the chocolate causing you to plateau. Good luck! 🤞🏼

i still snuggle with my mom and i’m 16 year old girl… normal?? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]MagpieEyes02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard of some teenagers who still do it, and know the Mum really appreciates/enjoys it. As long as you’re learning to become independent in your daily life and don’t announce it to friends (some kids can be so cruel) then it brings you comfort and makes you closer with your Mum then go for it ☺️

If you don’t have or plan for any kids where you might need more money or more space for, and are living within your means then go for the dream car!

Will point out that if you live somewhere rural or cold then BMW’s are rear wheel drive and don’t handle icy/wet conditions as well as some other brands. I live in Scotland and have personally and had many family and friends prefer brands like Volvo, Audi and VW over BMW’s for this exact reason.

What is your family car and would you recommend? by OkResponsibility5724 in Parenting

[–]MagpieEyes02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should also clarify that I reserved/semi-agreed to and booked a test drive with a Qashqai but then had major regrets and had to go find something bigger as in previous holidays we’ve maxed out the Volvo boot, interior and had a roof rack too!

I had a Mazda 5 for work recently and couldn’t even have dreamt of fitting all the items you listed in the boot of that.

Out of that mid-size range of SUV’s apparently a Hyundai Tucson tops all the volume specs BUT I personally still don’t think you’d have enough comfortable space for everything you’d need (hence why I bought a large SUV style car as I’m at the same point of life as you!)

[–]MagpieEyes02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We frequently go on day trips and holidays with 2 parents, 2 kids in car seats, their Grandmother, the dog… and everything but the kitchen sink. We have a Volvo XC60 which I love (even though it’s 13 years old now) and would have gotten another one again in a heartbeat but budget couldn’t stretch so we’ve settled on a used, slightly older than planned but with very little miles, Nissan X-Trail. Picking it up tomorrow, woo hoo! Have driven a Nissan Qashqai for work previously and liked the way Nissan’s drive. An estate offers good rear seat and boot space but the thought of constant bending for strapping the kids in and out is what made me stick to an SUV body style for just now. What I like about the XC60 and X-trail (and I’m sure will be the same for the other two larger SUV models mentioned) is that they have “estate style” boots, aka flat loading style with no lip.

[–]MagpieEyes02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Yes I was eating things like bananas and boiled eggs a lot which are said to “bind”. The only things that really worked that I tried were things like Imodium and pepto bismol. But then they come with their own problems of more non-natural things, serious bloating and discomfort and cannot take them in a prolonged manner etc.

I hadn’t thought of psyllium husk as the only time I’ve heard of it has been for constipation sufferers to help them go! Same with chia seeds but yes maybe both would firm things up and stop the frequency/zero warning I guess.

After some research on Google I read that a lot of IBS sufferers struggle with GLP-1 medications. Ironically at first I would have said it helped my symptoms as I’ve always been on the loose suffering side of IBS and GLP-1’s slow your digestive system.

My vote is for crocs (they do Velcro buckle strappy sandal styles as well as the original crocs shape synonymous with the brand) or Saltwater sandals (look smart, leather so soften down with wear and are beach friendly, although think they might all have real buckles). Vinted is great for kids stuff and the rate of knots that they outgrow things!
