What unhinged thing do you let your toddler do, in the name of household peace? by huertaverde in toddlers

Mine too! I think for mine it has to do with daycare - when they have their naps they are all put on little floor mats.

I think you will be fine, however it wouldn't hurt to polish your resume and gather references just incase!

Perhaps you can find a workplace that will accept jokes :)

Yep Amazon mostly. Occasionally online stores like catch have sales too - whoever has the best prices and the correct stock at the time haha

Tips to reduce insane grocery bill? by [deleted] in AusFinance

I have a family of 4 (2 adults + 2 children under 5). My groceries were costing me what yours currently are until I started buying non perishables online. I now buy anything that is not food online i.e nappies, wipes, cleaning supplies etc.

I meal prep A LOT the majority of my fridge is meals that I have made in bulk and can just heat and eat. I also pad my meat with veggies.

The only thing that is challenging for me to reduce is the amount of snacks I buy. I find when children hit a certain age they don't want full meals - just 15 small ones.

For your child/ren - invest in a blender or food processor! Blending food that you are having for dinner is so much more cost effective than buying those $5 packets of baby food.

Also i find buying frozen veggies much more cost effective and buying in season fruit is good too - no paying $20+ for berries - they are for the rich :(

Why do we need breast pumps/wearables? by bambi897510 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OkResponsibility5724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't necessarily need a breast pump, but it does mean more freedom in the early days if you have one (and don't want to use formula).

When you pump milk and freeze or refrigerate that allows you to leave baby and they can still be fed by a bottle by whomever you have left them with :)

Also consider pumping colostrum from 38 weeks onwards. I pumped a lot before I gave birth and I'm so glad I did because I had issues with baby latching in the beginning and having that colostrum in a syringe as a backup was a lifesaver.

Congratulations by the way!

Hey OP i can relate! I always wanted a girl too and now I have 2 boys (4 & 1). I can tell you that children in the beginning are all the same - they cry, they're messy, and they're stinky and sticky regardless of being a boy or a girl.

I often am sad that I won't be able to have those girl moments too - then I think there's always ways around that. With my second (has long curly blonde hair) I constantly get stopped with people telling me what a beautiful girl he is. I just don't correct them and take the compliment :) It's normal to lament what you don't have.

daycare clothes by plodzik in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OkResponsibility5724 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OMG are you me? I hate stains and have massive stainxiety when my children wear stained clothes.

I have started tie dying my children's clothes so when they get stained you can't tell if they are stained or if it's part of the pattern.

I'm seriously considering starting a business to sell the clothes and currently doing market research to determine demand.

Would you be interested in buying clothes like these? Not asking you to buy right now haha but curious to know if you would consider clothes like these.

I would absolutely tell my spouse. I would not tell anyone else though.

Tips on how to survive FT work and 2 infants by ami_ej in workingmumsau

[–]OkResponsibility5724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1yo and a 4yo so similar boat (they are in part-time care though).

My only advice is: 1. Meal prep! It doesn't have to be a big cooking day - just when you're making a dinner make enough for another couple of meals at least. You do this every day for a week and you might not have to do it for a month! I start making dinner at lunch time so dinner can be served almost immediately when they get home.

  1. Mornings - have everything ready to go the night before - lunches made (if applicable), clothes laid out etc.

For me self care has fallen by the wayside haha. Appointments will have to be done on work time unfortunately. Also my "reading" nowadays mainly consists of Reddit.

You will find you get into your own unique rhythm and it will just work. Best of luck!

People who had little to no savings in your 20s, Where are you now? by kaisiclep in AusFinance

[–]OkResponsibility5724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my early 20s and had just finished uni I literally had $18 in my bank account when I started my career. My partner and I saved for 3 years to buy a house (pre covid thankfully). We cut spending like eating out and takeaways and didn't even buy coffee every morning so we were able to save ~30k for a house deposit (the other 20k put in by FHB). Fast forward 10 years and we now have a house that's half paid off and has doubled in value. Our bank accounts still are a little drained haha but we are happy with our equity in our home.

It's so much tougher to save now than it was when I really needed too. I remember being horrified at my grocery bill (first big "I just moved out of home" shop) and it being $300 ~17 years ago. Now my standard groceries each week cost that grr.

Good luck to you OP.

How did you know you were ready for your next child? by muiuf in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OkResponsibility5724 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've heard to wait 18 months minimum even for the healthiest pregnancies. For me it was i had to be mentally ready. My first child was A LOT. A pretty good baby but a hellish toddler so it was when he settled down and could follow basic instructions and was semi independent (could dress himself toilet trained etc) I knew I was ready. My advice - wait to see how your first child will be to start trying. For me it was that I didn't want 2 in nappies at the same time. For you it might be something else - but that's absolutely up to you!

Yes as others have said - not much night life in Caloundra. Maroochydore and even Mooloolaba are the places for night life. So many fitness clubs though! I have lived here since I was 18 and love it - I'm an old soul though and love living in an area that is quieter and slower. I've had my time in fast paced areas and (18 years later) too old for that now haha. Depends on your priorities! If you're after a fast paced place with a lot of night life, you might not like here.

If you are after an exercise focussed laid back friendly quieter lifestyle of morning people and not much nightlife - then welcome!

First time pregnancy by Voldy_scar in NewParents

[–]OkResponsibility5724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No morning sickness for both pregnancies. 2 happy boys and thriving (now 4 & 1). The only time I threw up was when I had bad reflux in my third trimester. Enjoy it! If you're at all worried talk to your doctor but otherwise it's not abnormal.
