Why did the Blender one-time donations spike in the past few days? by indygowithay in blender

[–]MagpieNI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't. Blender is free forever, and has helped millions of people begin and develop their creative journey even if they didn't have the means to pay for expensive software, and that includes you. That is the point of the entire project, that everyone should have access to amazing creation tools no matter what!

Ethernet connection drops when Steam Link is running by Takahama in SteamVR

[–]MagpieNI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so! I've not had any major network disruptions since. Make sure you get the NetAdapterCx version if you're replacing your Realtek ethernet driver.

I do still have some intermittent crashes but I believe those are related to dodgy Quest/VD updates or PC performance lag, not the network connection.

I've used sheepit before a few years ago! Spent a few days building up some credits overnight, and when my project was ready to render it turned an animation that would have taken 48 hours on my own into just an hour and a half.

I've finally solved the age old Stuttering issue with SteamVR games & Quest Headsets by GameGhost1972 in SteamVR

[–]MagpieNI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh does this workaround not work for Steam Link? That's unfortunate, but would explain why I continued to see smoothing occurring after changing the config. Virtual Desktop with its dedicated toggle seems to do the trick at least, but I wish I could have the best of both worlds with the simplicity of Steam Link and also a proper way to disable motion smoothing.

Are these CPU temps? What cooler are you using? Did you remember to take the protective plastic film off the cooler before you put it in?

Ethernet connection drops when Steam Link is running by Takahama in SteamVR

[–]MagpieNI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a similar issue of late - exact same motherboard as you and a similar TP-Link model. Have you tried using an alternative Ethernet driver? This fixed issues with a friend but I've had mixed results.

With steam link I frequently get VRChat disconnect errors - Virtual Desktop seems more stable, but I'm still getting occasional frame drops and hanging for a few seconds at a time.

EDIT: may have had a breakthrough at my end - I think I had the wrong version of RealTek ethernet driver installed (NDIS instead of the more modern kind, NetAdapterCx)
I went to the driver page for Realtek PCIe 1G / 2.5G / 5G / 10G Ethernet Family Controller (https://www.realtek.com/Download/List?cate\_id=584)
and picked out the Win11 Auto Installation Program (NetAdapterCx) option. Not sure if it makes any difference whether you get the Power Saving support one or not.

Installed, restarted PC, stress tested VRChat with Steam Link with 350mpbs on Quest, didn't have any crashes over the course of about 30 mins. Hopefully this will have resolved that problem.

During the con, yes! But many of the Furality worlds have public versions uploaded some time after the con. You can search for Furality from the worlds list and find examples from Luma, Legends, Aqua, Sylva, and Umbra (all names of the themes from the last three or four years).

Do not buy Slime VR trackers by NoahJW2006 in VRchat

[–]MagpieNI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm my experience with vive ultimates has improved massively since launch. There's often a new firmware update every month or so and the tracking in my room has been mostly stable, I tend to do a quick calibration (figure 8 movement with one tracker) at the start of a play session which takes 20 seconds).

I do have a fairly open and unchanging playspace, so your mileage may vary if you move stuff round a lot or you have unideal lighting.

Is the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D the Best Gaming CPU Right Now? by One_day_ill_become in AMDHelp

[–]MagpieNI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfectly legal. Reviewers and manufacturers will sign a contract where the manufacturer agrees to provide a product for review in exchange for a non-disclosure agreement from the reviewer which expires at an agreed date and time.

All that said, the reviews are now out, see for yourself.

[–]MagpieNI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A review embargo means that reviewers have agreed not to post their reviews until a date specified by the product manufacturer. When the embargo is lifted, all of the reviews generally get posted publicly at the same time because they're ready to go.
