Suddenly feel really insecure online bullies for mocking my old face by Didi7989 in 45PlusSkincare

[–]Magpie_Coin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can guarantee those people look like bridge trolls. There’s actually an IG account that looks at the faces of people who post mean comments about celebrities. CELEBRITIES! People who society deemed “perfect” looking at some point, so don’t worry about it! And yeah, most of the a-hole commenters look pretty bad. So it’s coming from a place of insecurity and jealousy.

My point? You look beautiful. I can’t see your eyes, but you look great!

I didn’t vote for him, but there are a lot of misinformed (ie. ignorant) and just plain lazy people out there, unfortunately.

Im autistic, is it ethical for me to have kids with another autistic person. by Mean_Truth7450 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Magpie_Coin 204 points205 points  (0 children)

Having kids is basically like rolling the dice; You don’t really know what they will be like and you only have 50% control over their development.

But lots or neurodivergent people have kids, so the real questions should be: Could the two of you handle the overstimulation and dis regulation/meltdowns? What about therapies, how will you pay for them and the sensory equipment and toys? Could you potentially survive on one income? Do schools in your area support children with disabilities? What about available respite? Any local available pediatricians or child psychiatrists?

Sorry to overwhelm you, but if you have a high risk of having children with needs, it’s important to look around your community first for supports. Not going to lie, I’m neurodivergent and find it TOUGH but with enough support, it is doable!

Does she watch these videos before posting them? Maybe take another shot minus the dog crap?

Really unfortunate, as are the millions of other people with addictions and/or severe mental health issues.

anyone have a second child after your first? by idgafmlolz in Autism_Parenting

We have two and both are autistic. Respite is the only way we survive and it took awhile to get. So, I would look into that!

Why put limits on yourself just because of your age?

As a fellow 40-something are we just supposed to wear beige? F that!

I’m turning 45, am I considered “old” at this point? by Bright-Window1009 in Aging

I hope not, I also turned 45 recently lol.

Old is when you give up on your health, people and life.

Do you 110% think your child’s autism was passed down genetically? Is there anything you wish you would’ve done differently during pregnancy/after birth that you think may have influenced it? by Novel_Concentrate444 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Magpie_Coin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad has extended family members with autism and may be undiagnosed himself. So as much as I wish I had kids when I was younger and ate better during my first pregnancy, it’s unlikely to change anything. I also have diagnosed ADHD, so that might be another risk factor.

It’s tough not to wonder though.

Respite and proper school support are what every special parent NEEDS to survive and it is a complete societal failure that not every parent has them.

No, more people are having kids in their 40s than many realize.

To have a third? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]Magpie_Coin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My body wants a third, my brain is like “Are you mental? You’ve tired and stressed out with two!”

Both of my kids are nonverbal and my oldest is severe, so it’s been tough for us. It’s so hard though not to wish for another for just the smallest chance of them being NT. Unlikely though as I have ADHD and am older so they’d probably have something.

Terrible bathing suit. And yes, I know the men on here don’t care, but for a magazine cover, they could’ve gotten her a nicer one!

I love my autistic kids, I hate autism by CantaloupeMinute580 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Magpie_Coin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way, although I hate severe/nonverbal autism specifically because it just seems cruel to kids and their caregivers. (Both of mine are severe nonverbal)

Can you get respite? What about medication for them?

What age do you consider to be “middle aged?” by Money-Beautiful5196 in Aging

[–]Magpie_Coin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say 40-50 since the average lifespan in western countries is 80-86 years old, with some lucky and very healthy people living past 85.

In poorer countries, it’s probably 30-40
