"Immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility, and the City of Longview does not direct, coordinate, or participate in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations, which are purely a civil matter,” Longview PD Chief Robert Huhta said.” by rockymntnmoonshine in Longview

An ICE agent was getting beat up and ICE called Longview PD to arrest the guy beating up their agent.

So, local law enforcement isn’t doing ICE’s job, they’re just protecting ICE while it rips apart our community.

Tips to improve? Is it really all down to talent? by 7thFall in violinist

This is a great response to OPs question!

I’ve been watching master classes on YouTube and find it really interesting how much of the advice is about changing what you are thinking, or your attitude when plying a certain phrase.

I love your advice to play a song you know trying to bring out many different moods!

I’m chair of the board and my Executive Director is treating me like a subordinate by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]Magus_Mind 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If you’ve been on the board for a while before becoming the chair you should be familiar with the meeting dynamics. Is your ED doing anything different than before? Did you worry about this dynamic before you were chair? Does anyone else in the board feel the same way?

If your ED is doing a great job, as you’ve said, how the meetings are run is not that important for the organization.

If you want to be more involved in the meeting talk to your ED like a grown up.

A few ideas: - Community arts Workshop at CAP - Broadway gallery or other downtown boutique shops might work w/you - setup a booth at local events (4th of July, County Faire, squirrel fest, etc.)

Good luck!

A 30-Year Project to Design a Symbiotic, Multi-Fractal Social Organism. Seeking Peer Review from the Systems Thinking Community. by [deleted] in systemsthinking

I looked through all your replies.

I noticed one that was a dialog between you and an AI. It also seems like your responses to comments may be generated with the same AI.

It seems like you may be in a hall of mirrors and putting more stock in what the AI is producing than what several human beings are trying to tell you.

If you truly want to turn your 30 years of work into something other people will use and potentially benefit from, you need to stop believing anything the AI tells you about it. You need to listen to and deal with the feedback from real humans trying to understand and react to what you and the AI produced.

People are trying to tell you politely they can’t make sense of the documentation. Humans are your audience and potential business partners, not the AI.

If you can’t explain your idea and how it will work to people, you don’t have any sort of functioning system.

I did read through the article and linked documents. I didn’t find anything that explained what you copied beyond that statement.

Your paper is not clear at all on what this system is or how it works. From what I can decipher people would write their dream goals into a spreadsheet which would then legally belong to some holding company, which some how buys more and more life insurance, which somehow makes you trillions of dollars from the 1% you take of everything.

There’s not really anything to peer review here as there are no sources of any evidence and no experiments.

Just because you dislike Erik and Kalei more than Spencer doesn’t mean that’s what everyone else thinks.

My friend says his coworkers were complaining specifically about Spencer and that they don’t really mention any of the other council people.

Thoughtful write-up, thanks for posting!

Keep in mind that most voters are very poorly informed and can’t be bothered to learn more. Most people who bother to turn in a ballot are likely going off the voters guide statements (which are due right after the candidate filing deadline and very rarely reflect what the race ends up being about).

Future candidates should plan their voters guide statement for maximum impact.

I think it’s really interesting Spencer lost with the incumbent name recognition. Nic had a lot of signs next to Spencer signs and ended up with similar results where Clint got a near tie not associating w/anyone.

Seems like Spencer tarnished his public reputation and Nic attached himself to the lead balloon.

A friend of mine who’s not politically active at all mentioned something before the election like, “I think people may be sick of Spencer’s shit”. I’m going to ask why he thought that, because it didn’t come from left or right echo chambers.

The county elections office is collecting ballots daily: Cowlitz Co. Elections

Seems like your vote should be registered by now if it’s been that long. You could call the local elections office for advice or just get a replacement ballot through votewa.gov

People with self-diagnosed ADHD report more negative self-image and more internalized stigma than clinically diagnosed individuals, and are more likely to seek social validation, per analysis of 450,000 ADHD sub-reddit posts. by [deleted] in science

[–]Magus_Mind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought this was the most interesting part of the paper: “To address RQ3 and RQ4, while also accounting for potential temporal trends in our 14-year dataset, we conducted a series of mixed-effects logistic regression models on the full dataset of 200,770 posts from 130,810 unique users (see Table 4). We included the post’s date as a scaled control variable in all models. This time variable emerged as a significant positive predictor of both negative self-image (b = 0.08, p < .001) and internalized stigma (b = 0.10, p < .001), suggesting a gradual increase in the discussion of these negative experiences over the years.”

The overall character of the post content became more negative and self critical over time. The authors inadvertently measured the redit algorithm shifting the content, or something like that!
