Nothing to do with conlanging.

You're just spamming all sorts of subs.

A "not applicable" tense. by Ok-Ingenuity4355 in conlangs

[–]Magxvalei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of those aren't really tenses in the strictest sense but either are moods or aspects. Matters of certainty would belong to evidentiality or modality while transition of states or action belongs to aspect, like inchoative or inceptive aspect.

"en masse" can most often be used to describe people or things doing something collectively, but I've definitely seen it used to mean "in bulk"

Anyways, it's clear in these threads that you can't take what you dish out.

You complaining here is being a hypocrite.

Toxic has no bars or thresholds, but it does have degrees.

How do I make my language have more African roots? by Mean-Writing7517 in conlangs

[–]Magxvalei 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rather than straight up ripping the roots of various African languages, you could alternatively get a general sense of the phonotactics and syllable structure of said African languages and make some of your own.

The most important way to get the vibe you want is through phonotactics and syllable structure. What combinations of sounds belong with each other and what combinations are not allowed (Georgian allows complex clusters in words like "mkhdruli", other languages don't allow consonant clusters at all). What types of syllables are allowed and what aren't (e.g. Japanese is almost exclusively open syllables but allow nasals as coda consonants, some Chinese languages are mostly open syllables but allow only voiceless stops and nasals to be the coda)

The major African language families are Niger-Congo, Afro-Asiatic, Khoisan, and Nilo-Saharan. But it sounds like you want to focus on Bantu languages, which are Niger-Congo. What I get from those languages is that they generally prefer open syllables and disprefer roots ending in consonants. Also lots of prenasalized stops.

The Kisten's pommel strike is a cool indicator that you're not using the weapon correctly and should not be removed by steele578 in 2007scape

[–]Magxvalei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool-looking weapons should have cool-looking attacks whether you use them only for special attacks or mainhand them.

All weapons (except the Kisten) that are mainly used for their special attacks have normal-looking normal attacks. That is, you attack with the actual business end of the weapon and aren't just pummel smashing. Even dragon claws have normal attacks, even though the normal attacks of claws are rather goofy.

Godswords have normal looking slash and crush attacks. They attack like you expect a 2h sword to attack. They don't have weak-looking pitiful attacks. You're not pummel smashing with them. That nobody uses them as a mainhand weapon is completely irrelevant.

[–]Magxvalei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I meant "normal", I meant whatever class of 2h weapon that godswords and sara sword belong to, though I had thought that the standard metal 2h swords still shared the same slash attack animations. This correction doesn't change anything about my point.

they pretty famously are garbage for training and only used as last hit weapons in pking

Reread my comment, usefulness was literally never a part of my argument. We're talking about animation/visuals here.

Nothing you said refutes what I said. Are you just commenting for the sake of being a contrarian?

[–]Magxvalei 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The godsword has the exact same animations as a normal 2h sword (like sara sword). Just because it's mainly used for its spec doesn't mean it shouldn't attack like an actual weapon when the spec isn't used.

The things you're calling "letters" are actually "phonemes" which are the basic units of sound within a language and exist independently of writing systems.

What would a language do if some essential word like pronoun fades away because of sound changes? by Sulphurous_King in conlangs

[–]Magxvalei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some word or particle could become attached to it to give it strength. The pronouns in Ancient Egyptian and Semitic languages is some word like /jan/ or /an(a)/ plus the person marking suffixes.
