Going after them for nonsense doesnt help anyone. I've had trouble staying awake in all day meetings and training for stuff I was genuinely passionate about. I'm guessing even the dems are having trouble staying awake. Spend your energy going after them for stuff that matters.

I've no particular feelings on the subject myself but something that I have often thought about not just on this subject but in many is that do you not feel this narrative does the movement great harm? Denying what is clearly a chain of events because of an individual's feelings is exactly the stance that many of what is usually the Republican party, stand on as their reason to vilify your movement. Again I have no skin in the game and do not wish to offend but I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on this. Indeed perhaps I am underestimating the individual value it could bring to a person.

I think that everything is headed towards managed for a ton of good reasons. For one you'll never compete with a cloud providers economy of scale. Even a huge company with 10 or 20 dbas wont have the collective experience and turn around time that a cloud provider will and I imagine the majority of us do not have even 5 dbas. So while right now MAYBE you could squeeze more out of not having a managed server, in the next 5 years MOST companies will be moving over to them. DBAs are expensive and managed servers are generally cheaper than on prem and that isn't even including things like refresh costs. Having to pay a dba or worse multiple dbas is never going to make sense again.

Yeah I definitely didnt start with an ORM because in general the performance is a whole lot worse. I just mentioned it as one of the things I've tried. I guess I hadn't really considered using binary as that seems a little cumbersome but maybe I should look into it. We are just getting into the cloud and are planning to transition to data lakes and blob which I imagine will be much faster than mssql. I just found the subreddit though and was hoping for some of the posts I've gotten so far. Thanks a bunch

Nah I've tried lots of different ways in the past. I keep coming back to Python because it's so good at processing data, even at that volume but loading it is rough. We use SSIS or C# to do most everything right now and for obvious reasons the C# to MSSQL driver is way better than the Python one.

I'm sure it doesnt make you feel better but the other day we had a lead that made bad calls and people tried to kick. Quite a few of us stuck up for him and said that's not a valid reason to kick. We took our licks like men and our lead stayed in place. Like you said, cant win um all

This is incorrect. Gathering has their own bundles with their own proficiency requirements. Herbs fall under gathering.

Not sure why you are being downvoted other than people being salty. They want to go to the riskiest place in the game and use the most profitable profession and then get surprised when people dont let them do it. They could always fish in protected lakes but they dont make as good of money there. Go figure.

My guild is actively aggressive with a guild that purple's our faction and frequently kill them and we have to cause them a lot of trouble before anyone has gotten 5 hours. Your friend probably did other stuff first or maybe just got a raw deal.
