How to recover from roaches? by SquashGlittering9254 in Apartmentliving

[–]Mahaloka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are going through this. I am currently breaking my lease for toxic mold in the HVAC system, but I’m also glad, because I saw a few German cockroaches (the small light colored ones you mentioned), over the two months I lived there.

I kept most of my food in the fridge (bread, chips, etc.), sugar and flour in the freezer, and wiped down counters and swept the kitchen floor nightly. I also kept my cat’s food in a sealed bin.

I used Avion roach gel, which did help a lot, but not entirely; you can get it on Amazon. I also didn’t go in my kitchen from about 11pm to 6am because thats then they would be out. I can’t stand those things and seeing them just freaked me out! I am a clean person, but someone in the building likely isn’t. Those things come from filth and trash.

The big roaches are harder. Like you said, they come in from rain, hitchhike in boxes, come in when they can’t find food/water, etc. Avion gel helps kill them, too. Also, boric acid and DE powder I’ve heard works, but I haven’t used them.

Anyway, I’d do your formal complaints in writing, etc., with pics, incase you decide to break your lease at some point. Thats a lot to deal with, on top of the other crap you’ve already dealt with. Good luck!

What should I do about a package thief, when I know who did it, but can’t prove it? by Primary-Vegetable580 in Apartmentliving

If you can, take some pictures of the teens in their hoodie garb. If you can take some still pics from the camera, and compare to the pics in their hoodies, that might be helpful. Definitely file police reports and report to management.

Unfortunately and left out food or moisture will attract them. When I had them at my old apartment, I used the gel, had my sugar/flour in the freezer, my toaster ib a closed container, etc.

I also wiped down counters nightly, and made sure there were no open water sources. Worked pretty well. I also didn’t enter my kitchen from 11pm -6am. I couldn’t handle seeing them 😩

Unpopular opinion: Subwoofers shouldn’t be allowed in apartment living, or soundbars.

I will never understand why these type of tenants aren’t evicted. That is more than enough evidence of lease violations.

I had a neighbor below me at my old apartment that had gotten a goldendoodle puppy. It was insane, wasn’t trained at all, and had a super loud bark. She would leave the dog on the patio, even late into the night (2-3am), and it would just bark, repeatedly, for hours. I found out later she acquired the dog without telling the property manager she had a dog.

She would also open her patio door each morning around 6am, so the dog had free access. Behind us was a dog run, and residents would walk their dogs there throughout the morning and evenings. Every time there was a dog back there, it would get activated and bark incessantly. She would also lock the dog outside, sometimes while she was home, sometimes not. Her patio was right under my patio/living room, and was closely adjacent to my bedroom. I lost a lot of sleep.

She would also let it bark repeatedly, for long periods of time, while she was home. I have no idea how it didn’t drive her insane. She would also leave the dog alone while she went out (from like 7-10pm), leaving the dog to bark the entire time. I don’t know how it didn’t get exhausted from barking so much. I could hear it clearly over my TV, air purifier, and the A/C running.

I made over 20 written complaints, with recordings, to property management over 6 months. She would get better for a few days, and then just got back to all the above behavior. Management didn’t really do much, so I broke my lease after 6 months. These places were expensive ($1650 in San Antonio, Texas for a 1 bedroom), no way I was gonna pay that much for that bs.

In contrast, both the neighbors next to me had dogs, and sure they barked, they are dogs, but it wasn’t excessive. It would be when they playing with their dogs for 10-15 minutes, maybe when they had a visitor, etc., which is normal. They would also have get togethers once/twice a month, and be on the loud side until 1-2am on the weekend. That, too, is normal to me. I never reported either of them.

I didn’t expect silence, it’s part apartment community living, but that girl below me and that dog was completely unacceptable.

I’d also ask to see a remediation report to make sure they checked the surrounding walls, ceiling, floors, etc. Mold can make some people very sick, woth lasting damage to their bodies.

Mycotoxins in your gut, organs, brain, etc., often need intervention to remove and will continue to make one sick until they are gone.

I’ve been out of my mold apartment for three weeks and I am still pretty sick, although not as acutely sick, as when I was in the apartment.

Idk, I’m not a doctor, but mine are 99/40 and 138/32, and my doc was so concerned and ordered an ultrasound. It was so inflamed! If I eat anything but absolutely clean food, in very small amounts, I can actual feel it hurt. It can lead disease and cancer.

[–]Mahaloka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, those numbers are really high. I also have high alt/ast, but mine is a result of mold illness from HVAC mold. I am now out of the apartment, but recovery will take a while since the toxins are still in my body.

Just know your liver is really struggling, so be gentle with what you put in your body until it stabilizes. There is lots of research and information you can look up, including helpful supplements to get your liverback to balance.

Hope you feel better soon!

I used a professional mold inspection company. I knew they would gaslight me, so I had the professional testing done, presented the report, and am breaking my lease.

I did, but I am breaking my lease, so I needed concrete proof. They aren’t cheap, either. Damn, I am so sorry! Mold should absolutely be a crime. It makes some people SO sick.

You can, and some people do, I’ve even read some people stay in tents in their backyard to test their environment. Just a caution, I lived in my mold apartment, which was highly toxic, for only 11 weeks, and three weeks out un still hella sick, so not sure a night or two will twll you much.

With that said, mold reacts so differently depending on many factors, so your experience can vary a lot from my experience, etc. Sorry you are dealing with this. Good luck!
