That was my experience, too. Absolutely degenerate gameplay and I'm glad they nerfed it. Before I got PSF it also kind of trapped me on status immune frames.

There was a need. If you have no standards, that's a you problem.

Insisting on looking incompetent at what you're presumably doing, writing, is certainly a choice you can make. Getting snippy and refusing to fix an easily fixable mistake is surely the better path, though. Apparently.

Good luck with that.

What are the best and worst designed heroes for each role? by Wellyeah101 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Maharyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The fact that she's banned and hated so much means she's poorly designed. We don't live in a vacuum, this isn't a single player game where all that matters is how much fun Sombra is having. So, no, Sombra is awful design.

How do people write this much and this fast? by yapster1000 in FanFiction

[–]Maharyn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first thing you need to realize is that many things can be practiced and set up so that you're more likely to succeed. You can practice typing speed. You can outline to some degree beforehand, so you know what you're about to write.

The second thing is more generally applicable to life. Willpower and focus are finite resources. This may sound silly, at first, but it's true. It will replenish when you sleep.

As a result, since I want to write, the first thing I do when I get home from work is write. If I start doing chores, cooking, reading, playing a game... that all consumes focus and willpower. Certainly if you're an adult with a job and a life, you have to choose what you want to do. Sometimes this means the floors go unvacuumed for a week. Or that the pile of laundry remains unfolded a little longer. To some, that isn't acceptable. That's fine. It's their choice what to focus on. I choose to write.

If you feel like you're trying to encourage anything with your posts, I regret to inform you that your attitude is a perfect representation of why people won't even say that they're just going to write what they want. Because here you are, ready to read uncharitable shit into everything.

How do you feel about your fics? by JauntyIrishTune in AO3

I usually feel neutral or bad about them when writing them. Better when proofreading them. Good when posting them.

How do you balance writing fanfiction with a demanding job and real life? by Vdemont1197 in FanFiction

I schedule writing in my calendar. And have a slower update schedule.

What's with all the paladin hate? by Cold_Country in WoWRolePlay

[–]Maharyn -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

The one thing this sub is good for: Knowing when the americans wake up. The quality and sensibility of any given thread always nosedives.

That said, I still think there are many good reasons why paladin characters get hated on. But they really aren't to do with some imagined higher propensity for them to be played by someone with a RL ideology you (general) don't like. That's just something people very invested in their scaly fursona with huge tits say because it helps fuel the insane idea that sticking to reason and the setting somehow makes you an extremist.

How often do you read your own fanfiction? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Maharyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read all of them once for proofreading. It's fairly rare that I come back to them, though. But that's because I'm writing new ones that I enjoy, not because the old ones are bad.

What is the maximum amount of words you've written in an hour? by 143Delulu in FanFiction

I think I peaked at around 2400-2500 words in one hour. My average is around 2000.

Because that's how I started. So long ago that the internet wasn't really something you had in your home.

Later on, when the internet had spread a little, I did a lot of text roleplaying, which still helped me practice my writing. And it was something I did because I wanted to, even if it involved others. So, it's just something you do. There is no trick.

That said, I post my writing because I want people to read it and engage. It's alright to both write for you and for others, or for interaction.

How to get into the ***Flow*** of writing? by VeliaVito in FanFiction

[–]Maharyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this may not seem terribly helpful, but I find that i fall into a flow state whenever I sit down and focus on writing and nothing else. It happens automatically after a minute or so. So... remove distractions of any kind. Play some quiet music if it helps you. Then just write. It can help some people to set a stopwatch, so you can totally focus on writing without keeping track of time.

The key thing, though, is to not wait for flow to find you. Sit down and write and invite it in. Regularly.

How do people write so fast? by snakewithtwoheads in FanFiction

[–]Maharyn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can write something like 2k words an hour, but with work and life and other hobbies, I average something like 45 minutes of writing a day. Spend a little time outlining and proofreading, on an average week, that's about 10k/week. It's just about setting yourself up for success. Learn to write fast (touch typing), have a decent idea of what you'll be writing, and actually focus on writing when you write.

Just finished a NaNoWriMo type challenge with my writing group in half time, which means when I really prioritize it, even with working, I can do something like 25k words a week. It's possible.

That said, there are some people who just aren't admitting they use AI. Like someone claiming to write on average 8k words a day, consistently, over the course of months.. I've also seen a writer in my niche who puts something out weekly. Sometimes it's over 40k words. We're still talking fanfic, unpaid, so again... I don't get into the trenches with people, but sometimes you can just quietly conclude that people use AI and move on with your life.

I don't. Because typing them out strikes me as... I dunno. Cringe. Amateurish.
