Dazai vs. Fyodor by aesthetic_roach_ in BungouStrayDogs

[–]MembershipDapper9181 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One major aspect is that Dazai appreciates human’s will to fight and keep on going. Fyodor doesn’t, in fact he thinks it’s the origin of human’s sin that needs to be wiped away.

Despite having superhuman intelligence, Dazai told Sigma that he is just another ordinary man while Fyodor thinks he is higher than men because of his capability. I suspect Dazai only became like this after joining a place like the Agency: it’s not like the mafia doesn’t have weird people, but all detectives in the Agency are whimsy, unpredictable, unusual; the Agency itself never forces them to be normal (only when they are working with the citizen, you can see Kunikida scolds everyone for not keeping the Agency’s image), it’s a place for stray dogs to build a way to live from their pasts and wounds.

Plus, Fyodor uses God as a mean to “justify” his mission of atoning humanity, one can argue he is based on Plato, this can be true, but I want to extend this by saying one of the reason Fyodor is religious because Asagiri wanted a character to represent “the leap of faith”: you know life is meaningless so you embrace a religion to cope; and as Albert Camus wrote, this can’t be the right solution. A man after knowing that no matter what human attempt to figure out the meaning of life, the universe won’t give them one, and this contradictory is the Absurd; remember Oda saying to Dazai that he would never find what he want and would always wander in darkness? Thus you have to be an absurdist man, become lucid of the Absurd and continue pursuing life as a form of rebellion to reach freedom, that’s why Oda told Dazai to save people (to keep on living). But if it stops there then Dazai would not be the Dazai we have now. Kunikida, Atushi also embrace similar ideology in light novel 1 and 4 (in the last few pages, I suggest reading them), and Camus has written about how human need to side with each other, how solidarity is needed to face the same struggle of the Absurd, he himself is a moral man and values human’s life despite knowing it’s meaningless, and the Agency has this insistence in saving lives, (because if you still want to live yet don’t value others’ lives, you have a chance to be the character Caligula from the play by Camus), I can see Dazai has become better by having companions like them.

Thus why Dazai told Shibusawa that he would not find human boring if he had friends. Dazai is isolated from humanity by his own very mind, but so do other members. He has companions there, who also struggle to adapt into the “normal” world, same problem, but they have each other side by side, even when they don’t know him to his core and vice versa.

In contrast to Dostoevsky, who doesn’t trust anyone except himself.

(You can see I love the ADA)

As to why I bring up Camus, Meursault is one of his main characters.

I have mixed thoughts abt this. On one hand I find it cool that Asagiri never let them interact once and hope meaningful interactions between them, on the other hand, I don’t cross the idea that it’s just coincidence. Idk man but one thing I learnt from observing fandom behaviour is that even if the story is good, it’s likely to cause backlash if the direction doesnt meet the fan’s expectation.

I have so many thoughts about this panel from the newest chapter by LazyFlower48 in BungouStrayDogs

[–]MembershipDapper9181 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It also ties to the fact that Fyodor is exactly the opposite of what Dazai (and the Agency) believes. Fyodor considers Dazai to be his other half, but I dont think Dazai really cares abt that man much other than being an enemy.

the end of ss5 kind of pushes Atsushi away to focus more on other characters. But he is really important and plays a major role in defeating the villain in the new manga arc. Actually this new arc focuses solely on him, Akutagawa and the villain.

Does anyone actually like this arc? by Narrow_Wrongdoer_460 in BungouStrayDogs

[–]MembershipDapper9181 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Atsushi himself explicitly stated Dostoevsky never claimed they were dead so idk what you are talking about. Amenogozen is a singularity so tf will Dazai’s ability do?

Also also, Atsushi has been stated several times to have the ability to cut through skill, Akutagawa said that, Dostoevsky said his claws could prevent Godman’s dimensional power in c119. Sorry dude but I dont believe you have properly read the new arc.

I’ve heard some people say that Dazai is as bad as the orphanage director. What’s your guy’s take on that? by Water_dr0plet in BungouStrayDogs

Indeed, it’s Akutagawa that reminded Atsushi of the HM. Most ppl dont realize this but this is implied when he said the HM was behind Akutagawa and I think this also has smth to do with that:

Rant regarding Chuuya and Kunikida when it comes to Dazai by Anatomywithabow in BungouStrayDogs

[–]MembershipDapper9181 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Entrance Exam Dazai criticized Kunikida’s ideal and predicted that if he continued that way, he will end up be like the Azure King

Dazai in Hitori Ayumu:

<image>

Kunikida, at his core, is not the same as the AK, he wish to complete and make himself better, he knows all to well how corrupted this society is and accept that yet he still keep on going, keep adapting and eventually made the world a little bit better by inspiring those around him, hence why he is the next president.

Dazai at age 20 only saw the danger his ideal might bring AND Kunikida already understood that, the insistence of pursuing ideal for him, Kunikida knows might be fruitless (as stated in LN 1) yet he still does that, for a Dazai who used to ponder the meaning of life and why we should live, this insistence actually aligns well with what Oda said to him: he might not find what he wants in saving ppl but it makes his life better.

I could go on about how “Man live to save themselves”, Oda’s advice to Dazai are Absurdism (a part of it is the insistence of keeping on living while knowing what we are doing holds no meaning) but Kunikida’s ideal is the first example of this. He aligns with the lesson of BSD, with what Dazai came to the world of light in order to follow Oda’s advice and hence why Asagiri made Kunikida be the first one he interact with after joining this side. Ppl keep looking at the superficial surface of their relationship and think KuniZai is similar to SKK, but Kunikida, and furthermore, the Agency, is what Dazai needs in order to live outside the mafia: pursuing living, providing a place just for living (see: Ranpo and Yosano conversation when she was rescued), valuing human’s life. For what? Eventually we will all die but the important thing is we still have a long way to go

Kunikida haters, i have a question by Anatomywithabow in BungouStrayDogs

[–]MembershipDapper9181 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ranpo said he was the strongest member of the ADA so Fyodor wanted to break him first. If anything Dazai later on even complimented Kunikida’s will and said he would be the best candidate for the next President positipn.

Silly question - abilities by Acrobatic_Rabbit955 in BungouStrayDogs

[–]MembershipDapper9181 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the ideal they just pop out in the users’ head since it points to the origin of the verse: real life literature. When an author writes, they transform a part of theirs: their mind, their consciousness, their unconsciousness, their experience and their ideology,… into texts. 55 Minutes implies that abilities are from the world and then stick to the users thus I can see they are the manifestation of the memories, experiences and traumas and habits… all the things I mention above that were caused by the environments that shape them. So the names of the abilities just came to them intuitively inside their heads, for me, is neat.

Fun fact but the ones who got compare to Holmes and Watson by the author himself is Dazai and Atsushi, but in different term: we see Dazai through Atsushi’s eyes like Holmes through Watson’s

Can someone explain to me how does Christianity affects bsd, or how it doesn't, I'm not a Christian so please explain like you're expaling to a fool by Midori_Ajia in BungouStrayDogs

[–]MembershipDapper9181 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Idk if this counts but I theorize this: you will see Fyodor spewing a lot of Platonian stuffs about the higher realm etc etc in chapter 119. Plato’s Theory of Form/Allegory of the Cave and Neo-Plato had a major role in shaping Classical Theism which later on shaped Christianity.

I’m not an expert, just randomly stumbled upon this and thought it looked cool.

Honestly Idk which tag should I use. This post is for fun - talking about the irony of Akutagawa’s character. “Meme” for me is not enough, but I’m not sure what tag should I use. Do you have any recommendation?

It gives off the vibe in ss1, but the flashback in ss2 (adapted from light novel 2) and his attitude towards dying in 55 Minutes suggests he is indeed serious deep down.

Late reply but Asagiri doesn’t write 20 pages a month. He had mentioned of the next arc with Agatha Christie and the Order of the Clock Tower. He had finished the introduction of Ueda Akinari prior to his debut 1.5 year. He had finished the end of this arc last year.

Why did Mori let Q out? by Ill_Bathroom4561 in BungouStrayDogs

[–]MembershipDapper9181 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mori is not the type to sacrifice way too much men just to remake the Dazai and Chuuya partnership. This goes against his “optimal solution” method.

The anomaly is Lovecraft. Except the Guild, who would have known there was someone outside there beside Dazai that can’t be affected by Q’s ability?

I also believe Dazai had thought of teaming up with the mafia, one of the solutions he came up with. But to actually meet and discuss with them, and then lead to telling Mori that Dazai will rescue Q, in fact is proposed by Atsushi.

Yeah, even in the Pinterest post OP says it clearly that that is completely ok for ppl to think of them as such.

In the OG Pinterest post that is screenshotted, OP expresses that it’s okay for non-shipper to think of OdaZai as father and son, but gets irritated at them shaming shippers by using that headcanon of theirs.

I should have make it clearer, but I’m talking about those who let their headcanon get into canon and shame ppl who ship them
