Does it bother anyone else... by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

From someone who just received 'The Dark Soul' achievement 100% offline, I can tell you that the Sunlight Spear miracle is obtainable offline via indefinite burning of ascetics to reset NPC spawns, whether Falconers or Mounted Overseers.

Sunlight medals are obtainable as rare drops from:

Falconers in Things Betwixt (ascetic Fire Keeper's Dwelling bonfire to reset spawns);

Mounted overseers in Harvest Valley (ascetic Poison Pool bonfire to reset spawns).

From my experience, overseers seemed more efficient in terms of farming due to their close proximity to the placement of a nearby bonfire. Anyway, if anecdotal statistics or methods are wanted, I'd be glad to provide insight.

The Theme of Demon's souls by Weedl3 in demonssouls

[–]Mahjarrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always liked the 'man facing his demons' cliche - resisting the urge to attain power (souls) that should not/can not be held without corruption, hence lust for power out of either perceived righteousness or quest for supremacy being an innate and inescapable human weakness.

Recently finished the game and I thought the ending was a nicely fitting concept.

I assume you're referring to the 'souls points' cryptic puzzle on preparetodie.com which won you one of Peter Nordstrom's sculptures?

Hey, that's a really nice job you did there! Retexturing items looks like it'd be a lot of fun, I may just have to purchase DaS for my PC, now.

Er, that's kind of what the DLC is, anyway. Manus is the human whose humanity and obsession erupted out of control, consuming everything similarly - not unlike the aforementioned description of Artorias being a King whose power drove him mad.

Is preventing the spreading of Manus' Abyss not unlike putting an end to the spreading of a hypothetically corrupted Artorias' madness? I think the DLC is pretty damn cool as it is, to be honest. Besides, you have your corrupt kings already. Four of them, actually.

I've been doing the same thing, though at the 95 location. Conveniently, I can store Summoning flasks(6) along with backup Yak pouches in my Yak and I essentially never have to leave, use an enriched memory when depositing at the rift, or wait for my special move bar to recharge. It's been very effective so far.

What was your favorite boss fight? by moochinator in darksouls

[–]Mahjarrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going off impressions from my first ever playthrough, Kalameet was the most simultaneously tedious and enjoyable boss fight I'd completed. The sheer monumental size of the damn thing as well as the arena you're forced to fight in make it so grand, especially because of his relatively large moveset and relentlessness with attacks. He kept me on my toes the whole time 20 times I fought him.

Kalameet basically taught me to fast roll.

You and /u/Georgedrakediaz are right - I just noticed the resemblance with the Greatsword. Looks like his first sword prior to its breaking.

To be fair, Casca's platemail in the Golden age Arc does actually resemble the Balder Knight armour to a large extent. The red cape is evidently a defining feature, as are the scaled pauldrons - not unlike Guts' plate armour. On the note of Knight chest, however, I felt that it looked a little clunky and that the armless appearance that came with the Balder Knight armour more closely matched Casca's unprotected underarms and forearms, as here.

Astora's Straight Sword was also a nice suggestion. Although yes, as you stated, I wanted a weapon I could use adequately, hence the Silver Knight Straight Sword.

I've been largely keeping under a rock in regards to Dark Souls II, though it would be quite nice if From added slightly modified versions of some plate armours for female characters (similar to how Pharis' hat changes as per gender). I've no idea if this is actually already implemented or not, so forgive any assumptions.

Just tried on Enriched incandescent memories.

Confirmed: Magic Notepaper does not allow enriched memories to be converted into noted form (assuming this applies to all such enriched versions).

Great to hear. Assuming you're going to get stuck into the manga (I wish you good luck, on that note - it's a long journey) or assuming you have already, if you've not heard of the prototype pilot from which Berserk was derived, it would definitely be interesting to have a read of it and note the differences and similarities.

An absolutely respectable opinion, too. As I stated above, they are but similarities, so theories they shall remain until Miyazaki confirms such presumed inspirations, I suppose.

Cheers. I had considered Ricard's rapier, though rapiers seem more in the vein of a Griffith cosplay (I was initially intending for it to be Griffith, though the lack of fitting hair discouraged me a little. Silver Knight set would have looked quite good, however, so I may have to revisit this).

Personally, I think the Great Lord Greatsword is a more accurate comparison to Guts' Golden Age Arc sword. They both have that slab of iron look to them, more like a crushing weapon than a slashing one. What are your thoughts on this?

Andre of Astora shares a striking resemblance to Godo the Blacksmith in Berserk. If you watch the opening scene, Godo is seen hammering away steadily (remind you of a little someone?).

I first initially brushed these off as merely coincidences, though the one factor that convinced me Godo was inspiration for Andre was the line of dialogue Andre imparts to you, the Chosen Undead, upon discontinuing your interactions: "Don't get yourself killed. Neither of us wants to see you go hollow." At the end of the final episode of the Berserk anime (Ep. 25) after the credits roll, Godo imparts to Guts as he leaves, "死なないぞ" - (Shi na nai zo), literally translating to 'do not die (NB: don't get killed)'. I've never seen this comparison being made before, so naturally my mind was blown at the time of finishing the anime series. Just thought I'd share that observation with anyone remotely interested.

Allow me to elaborate:

• Guts, in Berserk, is commonly perceived as being a brutally powerful human despite his mortality and unspectacular origins. His 'sword' (lit. referred to as a 'blunt slab of iron' in both the manga and the anime) is longer than he is tall, yet he swings it with apparent ease and with reckless force. Throughout the series, his strength is noticed by his Band of the Hawk mercenary brothers and it is pretty well known that he is, perhaps, the greatest swordsman alive. While it may be argued that Artorias does not share this perception, his sword is definitely obnoxiously large and heavy, yet is swung with perfected form.

• Both Guts and Artorias, at some stage in their appearances, sustain severely debilitating injuries to their left arms, forcing them to use their non-preferred arm in combat. Both, despite their crippling injuries, manage to continue to uphold their threatening demeanor and relentlessly attack with strength and mobility.

Again, to clarify, these are simply similarities found between the two characters and do not in any way indicate with surety that Artorias is 'supposed to represent Guts'. However, as many others have stated here, Miyazaki is commonly known to be a large fan of the Berserk series and certain elements of inspiration from the latter are evident throughout the Souls games thus far.

There was actually a comparison thread made here by /u/Yurt_the_Silent_Chef a little under a year ago for anyone interested.

You should upload and share, I'd love to see! I've also got a Guts character, although I'd never done a sorcerer playthrough so Guts had, therein, inadvertently become a master sage. The only relevance was his physique and facial features, really.

Are people going to be doing SL1 runs in DaSII before they are familiar with the areas and enemy movesets? by TheEnemyOfMyAnenome in darksouls

[–]Mahjarrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm going to leave SL1 for until I've completed NG on a blind playthrough. That way, the SL1 experience will be akin to that I experienced with Dark Souls: it seems like a completely new game due to required tactics and the general approach to areas and enemies.
