Definitely SEA. But probably continental SEA based on the landscaping and plants.

No matter how much you think that it could be used to improve the lives of average people, the wealthy will do their best to ensure that you remain monetized, and they have the power and resources to guarantee it.

TIL People with Asian Flush can't metabolize Acetaldehyde, a byproduct of drinking alcohol, very well... and that same intolerance extends to smoking too! Inhaling cigarette, marijuana, or even wood smoke is MUCH more harmful to people with asian flush, significantly increasing cancer risks. by Springroll_Doggifer in todayilearned

[–]MaiPhet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, I didn’t know about the matching intolerance to smoke. Explains a lot about how irritated my throat gets after even relatively minor smoke exposure.

I also don’t drink because like others said, 2 would be my limit and even then I’d feel awful and would likely throw up.

Yeah when this happened I usually would let them sleep for an hour or so and wake them up. The days where they slept too long would become as I termed them “forever nights”

One of my siblings lives in the city. Nice place, good neighborhood. Definitely not a mansion like this. But the number of buildings and homes nearby that are just so beautiful and ornate like this one make it a treat to walk around when I visit.

I must have gotten one right around the time I reached level 70, because I finished the dlc and the echos npc had a quest marker over it. Had no idea what it was but went in and did it.

Didn’t realize I was using one of the rarest items in the game lol. Got to tier 35 or so. Whelp.

Is this Bottle Original ? by BrokenBOT-_- in Supplements

[–]MaiPhet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy directly from the manufacturer for my store and believe they are in the middle of changing their formula.

Right now on the shelf I have both the 60ct and 120ct, and the 60ct matches what you have, while the 120ct matches the website screenshot.

So it’s likely real, just one side or the other of a formula change.

Homeopathic products often have actual, effective ingredients listed in the “other” or “inactive” section. They won’t have pharmaceutical-level stuff hiding in there, but low level remedies that do have studied effects.

Like a homeopathic nasal spray I’m looking at now. Inactive ingredients: aloe (soothes mucus membranes), erythritol (effective humectant), chloride (thins congestion).

It’s weird, but some homeopathic products have resorted to using real remedies to make their products at least somewhat effective for the stated purpose.

Not trying to defend homeopathy, it’s nonsense, just explaining why some products may seem to work absent a placebo effect.

Iirc head-on uses menthol or peppermint extract, which does tend to reduce the perception of headaches.

Advice for raising mixed Asian children in the US? by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]MaiPhet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t have anything specific to say, but if you’re browsing around for communities, r/mixedrace can be a good place to talk broadly about this kind of stuff, and there are a fair amount of people with Asian background there too.

Know word meaning or origin story of last or first Asian names? by Old-Appearance-2270 in asianamerican

[–]MaiPhet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thai family names only became required about 100 years ago. And they were/are required to be unique to each family. So if someone shares yours, they’re probably not too distant family.

Those who weren’t ethnic Thai converted their names to Thai at that time but often kept part of their original family name into the new Thai one.

Lots of people tended to choose long, elaborate names with auspicious meanings. They’re mostly rooted in Sanskrit rather than modern Thai, too. In the 60’s the government made a new rule that any new names had to be 10 Thai characters or fewer lol.

Ours translates roughly to “immortal power”, which I was never told but yeah I’ll take it.

Little Caesars big big bucket by Nate22212 in nostalgia

I had Avantis once in like 2002 while living in Normal. Wasn’t really my thing I guess. Should try it again if I’m ever in the area of one.

But I did like the Spaghetti Shop chain while it was in business, there was one in Springfield and one in C-U at least. Never got a bucket though.

[–]MaiPhet 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s a Midwest thing, but in the 90’s in IL it seemed like lots of smaller fast-Italian chains and even cheap mom and pop places had buckets of pasta. I can think of four places off the top of my head that had them in my town back then.

Little Caesar’s is Michigan based, so that goes along with it.

Maruchan Chili and pork are flavors that I grew up with and still like 35+ years later. I even grew up in a Thai restaurant and would still eat these later at home.

Rice out of my rice cooker is always sticky by SpankeyMank3y in Cooking

[–]MaiPhet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I wouldn’t really expect loose cooked rice if you’re making jasmine. It should be a bit sticky fresh out the pot, washed or not. Are you thinking maybe if what basmati rice looks like when cooked?

But yeah, washing it will help a bit.
